Community Outreach Program
The Brockville Police and our area Community Mental Health Agencies were out yesterday conducting proactive checks on members of the community at risk. This program has a police officer and a social worker riding together to visit the homes of persons who have been in crisis and frequent users of both services in the recent past. The goal is to avoid hospitalization or involvement in the criminal justice system by referring individuals in need to the appropriate agency.
Yesterday, the team identified and visited 5 residences and spoke with the individuals identified to have been in crisis recently or on diversionary programs. The team was well received and referrals for assistance were made to appropriate local agencies for assistance.
Unwanted Person
A community health worker got a surprise when she went to check on her client yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 4 pm Brockville Police received a call from a health worker who went to visit her client at a Cartier Court apartment. When she knocked at the door to check on her 65 year old male client, a 44 year old woman answered the door. The woman appeared to be extremely intoxicated and the worker contacted police.
Investigation revealed the woman had taken one of the medications prescribed to the male resident causing her impairment, and was transported to the Brockville General Hospital by EMS.
