Unwanted Person complaint leads to arrest

A 34 year old Brockville woman was arrested early yesterday afternoon after she was in the King Street Mac’s Milk for a second time during the day causing a disturbance and complaining about stolen property.

When officers arrived at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon, they found the woman to be well under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place and brought to the police station for her safety.

She was released later in the evening when sober with a Provincial Offences Notice.

 

Local Car Dealer finds someone living in their van

A local Brockville Car dealer found a little more than expected when they went to inspect vehicles on their lot yesterday afternoon.

Officers were called to the local dealership around 2:30 pm yesterday afternoon after staff, inspecting the vehicles in their lot; found someone had been living in one of their vehicles after they discovered clothes, an air mattress and sleeping bag in the back of one of their cube vans.

From the property left in the van, police were able to identify the owner and make arrangements for the return of his property and other living accommodations.

 

Theft of Air Compressor

An air compressor motor and hoses were taken from a vehicle overnight Wednesday on Hartley Street.

Brockville Police received a report yesterday afternoon from the victim who reported that his air compressor described as having a red tank, grey motor and black hoses was taken from his vehicle overnight Wednesday.

Good Samaritan Returns Property

Brockville Police would like to extend our thanks to a 56 year old Spencerville man who turned in a young Ottawa woman’s wallet at the front desk of the Police Station yesterday morning he found on the roadway in the North Augusta Road area.

After looking through the identification in the wallet, police were able to reach the owner through Facebook and reach her to return to the Brockville Police Service to reunite her with her property. When arrived at the Brockville Police station, she was very pleased that all of her pictures, credit cards, identification, and all of her money including her change were still in her wallet.

 

July 5 – 6, 2017 Incidents

Graffiti painted on Kensington Plaza

Yesterday morning Brockville Police were contacted by a resident in the Kensington Plaza area reporting new graffiti on Kensington Plaza where “Brockville Crips” was painted in blue paint. There was also new damage to street signs and electrical boxes in the area.

Traffic Stop leads to arrest on outstanding warrant

A traffic stop yesterday morning lead to the arrest of a 32 year old Brockville man on an outstanding warrant from Leeds OPP.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. yesterday morning Brockville officers stopped a dark green 2003 Chevrolet Malibu in Central Avenue near Ferguson Drive. As a result of the stop and subsequent investigation, it was learned the driver had his licence suspended, was on probation and currently on release from outstanding charges in addition to the outstanding warrant.

As a result, he was charged by Brockville Police for driving while under suspension, breaching his undertaking and breach of his probation order prior to being turned over to Leeds OPP on their warrant.

 

Disturbance leads to Drug and Possession of Stolen Property Charges

Yesterday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Brockville Police were called to the parking lot beside Beattie Dodge in downtown Brockville to a disturbance taking place involving two men and a woman.

When officers arrived they located a 46 year old Brockville man, his 48 year old girlfriend and another 31 year old Brockville area man in the lot who were known to the officers. Upon speaking with the involved persons at the scene it was learned the 31 year old man had stolen property in his possession and was placed under arrest.

After the man was arrested a quantity of drugs was found in his possession and seized by police. As a result the man is now facing charges of Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was released with a future court date.

July 4 – 5, 2017 Incidents

Power Tools stolen from vehicle

A number of power tools and a man’s wallet were stolen from a parked vehicle overnight Monday on Centre Street.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning Brockville Police were contacted by the victim who reported that overnight he had parked his vehicle on Centre Street before retiring for the evening. When he awakened and went to his vehicle he found his doors unlocked and open, his interior light on and his power tools and wallet missing from his vehicle. At the time of the report, the victim was still compiling a list of the stolen tools.

Theft from Rexall Pharmacy

Brockville Police are looking for a male suspect in connection with a theft from Rexall Pharmacy at 30 Pearl Street West yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. officers responded to a theft in progress at the pharmacy when staff observed a male select a number of items and conceal them before leaving the store on a bicycle. The male was last observed leaving west on Pearl Street toward Buell Street.

The male suspect is described as a white male, smaller build with visible tattoos, wearing a black ball cap with a red brim backwards, white shirt and long shorts. He was also carrying a grass trimmer on his bike as he was riding away.

Motor Vehicle Collision sends one to hospital with minor injuries

A 41 year old Brockville area man is charged with Careless Driving after a three vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at Parkedale Ave and North Augusta Road.

At 4:20 p.m. officers responded to a three car collision in front of Wal-Mart department store yesterday afternoon. On arrival a female passenger in one of the vehicles had minor injuries which resulted in Leeds and Grenville EMS responding and taking her to the Brockville General Hospital for minor injuries. She was later released.

July 3 – 4, 2017 Incidents

Early Morning Domestic Disturbance

Residents in the Bridlewood Avenue and Aspen Drive area of Brockville were awakened early Monday morning to a 20 year old Brockville area man and 19 year old girlfriend having an argument outside of their vehicle.

Brockville Police received a number of calls at 6:20 a.m. on Monday morning about the disturbance in the area. Upon arriving police learned the argument had turned physical between the two and a number of items were tossed from the vehicle and out on to the street.

As a result the 20 year old man was arrested by police for Domestic Assault and taken to police headquarters where he was later released on several conditions and given a future court date.

 

Tires and Rims stolen

A set of tires and rims were stolen from inside a parked vehicle sometime overnight Sunday from a north end apartment parking lot.

Officers were called to 1410 Kensington Parkway shortly before 9 am Monday morning when a resident returned to his Dodge Charger in the parking lot to find his rear doors had been pried open and a pair of tires on Hellcat bolt pattern rims had been stolen. The vehicle had been parked in the lot Sunday evening around 11 pm.

Domestic Argument leads to Threatening Charges

A 25 year old Brockville man is facing charges of Uttering Threats and Harassing Phone Calls after repeatedly calling to his 21 year old girlfriend and her family if she ended the relationship.

Officers were called to a MacOdrum Drive apartment building at 11:45 a.m. yesterday morning and spoke with the frightened victim. She advised officers she had been in a relationship with the young man until recently. When he contacted her to talk, things became heated and the comments to harm her and her family were made causing her to fear for her safety.

As a result the 25 year old male was located and arrested. He was placed on several conditions to protect the safety of the victim and her family and given a future court date.

 

 

Break and Enter at Brockville Towing

Brockville Police were called to Brockville Towing just before noon yesterday after entry was gained to a storage building in the secure compound overnight.

At 11:55 a.m. officers attended to the compound after staff had discovered the break in from overnight. Entry was gained through the roof of the building and at this time staff are going through the compound to compile a list of missing items.

Noise Complaint leads to Assault

A 62 year old Brockville man is recovering from injuries after a dispute over loud music lead to him being assaulted.

Brockville Police responded to 210 King Street West at approximately 8:30 pm last evening when the victim contacted police to report he had been beaten up after telling residents in 206 King Street West to turn the music down. An unidentified male exited 206 King Street West from the third floor using the fire escape and struck the victim several times in the head.

The man was transported to Brockville General Hospital for his injuries and treated and eventually released. The suspect is described as being male, approximately 25 years of age, wearing a black hat, black t-shirt and black pants.

Update on White Kitten tossed from vehicle

Over the weekend Brockville Police were able to locate the person with the dash camera video of the kitten being tossed from a vehicle on Parkedale Avenue on Saturday June 24th and learn the kitten is recovering well.

Last week Brockville Police received numerous phone calls, email and social media messages about a white kitten which had been tossed from a vehicle on Parkedale Avenue, but had not received a complaint from a member of the public and issued a media release asking for people to come forward if they had more information. As a result of this appeal, police were able to locate and speak with the person who has the dash camera footage, and learn where the kitten was taken and treated for its injuries.

At this point the investigation is still ongoing and the video evidence is being reviewed.

July 2 – 3, 2017 Incidents

Fire

Brockville Police responded to a residence in the Center area of the City in response to a small fire in a residence. It was reported at approximatley 4:15 pm on the 2nd of July, 2017. It was noted to be a small fire as a result of burnt food. There was no damage to the residence. While officers were there, the 58 year old home owner was displaying erratic behaviour that raised concerns for his mental health. The male was not apprehended at the time, however, was refered to the proper mental health programs to assist him.

 

Mental Health

On the 2nd of July, 2017, at approximately 7:15pm, the Brockville Police Service responded to a report of a 22 year old female, suffering from suicidal thoughts. Officers spoke to the young female and her family. It was learned that the female had been making comments and had thoughts of ending her life. She was apprehended by officers and transported to the Brockville General Hospital for a form 1 assessment.

 

July 1 – 2, 2017 Incidents

Busy holiday weekend.  Officers busy on the beat and the water ways this weekend.

Overnight on Friday officers dealt with disputes and intoxication.

A friendly party turned into a dispute between friends on Friday and resulted in one male being held for Bail for assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and breach of previous conditions.  Too much alcohol for two other males resulted in a stay at the police station until they were sober and their safety was no longer a concern.

 

Saturday was another busy night with five parties arrested and two that were held in custody for bail.  One party was arrested for a breach of conditons – for being with a person that they were not to associate with.  An altercation outside a local establishment landed a party in custody for the night for causing a disturbance and having a weapon.  Liquor and by-law tickets were issued to others.  Large crowds for both the boat races and concerts.

Just a quick warning for boaters to be careful of debris in the water.

June 29 – 30, 2017 Incidents

Traffic Complaint leads to Stolen Vehicle investigation

At approximately 2:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Brockville Police were contacted by a citizen who reported following a Gold Chevrolet Cobalt off the 401 highway into Brockville driving erratically.

An officer spotted the vehicle on Parkedale Ave at a traffic light and attempted a traffic stop. He approached the driver’s side of the car but the driver refused to roll down his window, or look at the officer. When the light changed the suspect fled eventually returning to the 401 highway and continue west bound at a high rate of speed. Brockville officers terminated the pursuit a short time later due to the driving of the vehicle and out of concern for the safety of the public.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Kingston earlier. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer Constable Eric Ruigrok at 613-342-0127 ext. 6086.

 

Traffic Stop leads to arrests for Drug Possession

A traffic stop on North Augusta Road last evening resulted in the arrest of 2 adult men and 2 female youths from Ottawa for a number of drug offences.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. last evening Constable Dan Hall was driving in the downtown area when he observed a vehicle driving on King Street and turn north on North Augusta Rd in a manner which caused him concern for the driver’s sobriety. When he approached the driver of the vehicle and learned his licence had been suspended. Also while at the side of the vehicle he observed in plain view in the rear seat a quantity of drugs.

As a result of seeing the drugs, all 4 occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest for the drugs and taken into custody. The vehicle was then further searched and a quantity of methamphetamines, and cocaine were located.

As a result, the 26 year old male driver is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance and failing to comply with his probation order. The 21 year old male passenger was charged with possession of a controlled substance, failing to comply with his probation order and personation with intent for giving police a wrong name when arrested as he had outstanding warrants from the Ottawa area. One of the 17 year old girls is charged with 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance, failing to comply with a youth probation order and possession of stolen property. The second female youth faces charges of possession of a controlled substance.

In total during this traffic stop there were 11 charges under the Criminal code and 3 Highway Traffic charges.

All of the accused persons were released from custody and given future court dates.

 

Traffic Restrictions this weekend

With the Hydroplane Races and Canada Day celebrations this weekend, motorists are reminded of traffic restrictions on Water Street this long weekend.

Water Street will be closed from Broad Street east to Ford Street except for local traffic only. As well, motorists are reminded not to block the entrance and exits to the Executive Condominium building on Park and Bethune Streets while watching the races. Vehicles blocking these entrances will be subject to fines and may be towed.

Traffic stop leads to arrest and drug seizure

A 21 year old woman from Gananoque is facing charges Possession of Drugs for the Purpose of Trafficking and Breach of Undertaking as a result of a traffic stop late yesterday afternoon in downtown Brockville.

At approximately 5:20 pm Constable Eric Ruigrok stopped a silver 2004 Honda Civic on Chase Street being driven by the young woman. He and Constable Sam Evers, during the course of the investigation learned there were drugs inside the vehicle. As a result, Constables Ruigrok and Evers seized methamphetamines, drug trafficking equipment, and a toy handgun from inside the vehicle.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

 

Driving Under Suspension

A 54 year old Brockville man has been charged with Driving while Under Suspension and had his vehicle impounded as a result of a traffic stop on Court House Avenue yesterday.

Officers stopped a red 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier on Court House Avenue at 5:15 pm yesterday for a traffic violation and learned the driver had been suspended. As a result he was charged with driving under suspension and served a provincial offences notice. His vehicle was towed and impounded.

 

Social Media reports of abandoned kitten

The Brockville Police are aware of social media accounts of a young kitten being abandoned on Parkedale Ave near the police station; however has no record of the incident ever being reported to the police.

Posts on social media accounts which have been forwarded to Brockville Police social media accounts state the kitten abandoned from a car while driving on Parkedale Avenue. A vehicle following stopped and picked up the cat and reportedly brought it to a shelter to be cared for. According to the posts, this vehicle has a dash camera video of the entire incident.

Officers would like to speak with the person or persons who rescued the kitten and have dash camera footage of the incident. June 27 – 28, 2017 Incidents

Theft of Cell phone and Computer

A 32 year old Brockville man and his 20 year old girlfriend are in custody this morning in relation to a theft of a cell phone and laptop computer from a 15 year old youth at the Brockville Library on Sunday.

Yesterday morning at 930 a.m. Brockville Police received a call from a man calling on behalf of the victim, who recently moved to Brockville after coming to Canada from Syria. The caller reported that the 15 year old was at the library Sunday from 2-4pm and had a low battery on his phone. He placed the phone on the charging station at the library and when he returned a short time later it was gone. He then returned to his work station where he had been doing work on his computer only to discover it also had disappeared while he was searching for his phone.

The victim and the police attended to the library to confirm the area of the library where the theft took place. Investigators then reviewed the surveillance video and later identified the couple as the responsible persons. They were located and arrested in connection to the theft as well as breaching their bail conditions they had previously released on for previous charges and held in custody pending a bail hearing today.

 

Break and Enter

Officers were called to a house on Church Street yesterday morning after residents discovered their home had been broken into and ransacked.

At 9:30 yesterday morning Brockville Police were called to a Perth St residence when the owner returned to find that persons had entered the residence overnight while they were away. Drawers had been opened and the contents strewn on the floor and furniture overturned. During the time of the report the home owner was still compiling a list of items taken from the house.

Detective Paul Smith of the Forensic Identification Unit attended the residence and processed the scene for forensic and DNA evidence. The break-in remains under investigation.

Disturbance outside the Buell St Bistro

Brockville Police were called to Buell Street in front of the Buell Street Bistro early last evening on a report of two men fighting in front of the restaurant.

At 6:05 pm officers responded in front of the restaurant and located a 73 year old and 41 year old man engaged in a physical altercation in front of the restaurant.

Investigation revealed the two had begun the argument inside the restaurant after one of them answered his cell phone inside. The argument continued outside the restaurant and out on the street when police were called.

Both men are now facing charges under the City’s fighting bylaw.

June 26 – 27, 2017 Incidents

Well-Being check leads to Elder Abuse Investigation

A concerned neighbour contacted Brockville Police late yesterday afternoon after he heard arguing at his elderly neighbour’s residence when he went to check on her.

Brockville Police were called to the residence of a 95 year old woman at 5:20 pm yesterday afternoon. Responding officers learned there was a dispute among family members and friends in attendance over the woman’s health care and financial powers of attorney.

Leeds and Grenville EMS attended and transported the elderly woman to the Brockville General Hospital for some minor injuries to her leg and she was later released from hospital.

The disputed Power of Attorney matters remain under investigation by police.

 

Break and Enter to tool shed

The Brockville Police are investigating a break and enter overnight from a storage shed at the rear of a residence on Perth Street.

At 1:50 am Cst Mike Noonan was on patrol on Perth Street between Downey and Brock Street when he saw a man wearing a red hoodie and a backpack go in between two houses on the west side of the street and tools sitting on the front lawn of the residence.

The male suspect fled westbound through the back yards. Officers checked the area and discovered several other sheds had been tried in attempt to break in as well
