Impaired Driving

On January 25, 2024, at about 5:30pm, officers were on patrol in the area of Central Ave. and observed a vehicle travel through a red light. The vehicle was stopped and it was found that the driver was identified to be a 40-year-old, male. He was operating the vehicle while prohibited from driving due to previous impaired convictions. His driver’s licence was also under a separate suspension for unpaid fines. The officer was developed concern with the driver’s current level of sobriety. A roadside breath demand was made, however, the male refused to provide a sample. He was arrested and later released with the following charges; Failure or refusal to comply with demand, operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device, driving while under suspension and red light fail to stop. He has been issued a future court appearance date.

 

Disturbance Leads to Arrest Warrant Executed

On January 27, 2024, at about 9:30pm, police received a call regarding a group of people preparing to engage in a fight in the area of King St. W. and Apple St. Officers arrived and it appeared that the individuals involved had dispersed. Police learned that an 18-year-old, male, was attempting to engage in a fight with another male. It was found that the 18-year-old, male, had gone back to his residence in the area. However, he was on bail conditions stating not to be outside of his residence while under the influence of alcohol. Officers located the male and found him to have been consuming alcohol. He was also found to be in possession of a crossbow, BB gun and air soft gun, contrary to his conditions. He was arrested and later released with a future court date after being charged with two counts of fail to comply with undertaking.

On January 27, 2024 at approximately 1:13am The Brockville Police Service received a call for a stabbing that had just occurred outside an establishment located on King Street West. Police along with EMS attended to the scene where a male victim was found suffering from a stab wound.  The victim was transported to Kingston General Hospital by EMS where they are currently listed in stable condition.

Police were able to identify the other individual involved in the stabbing who had initially fled the scene. A  47 year old male subject has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in custody awaiting a Bail hearing.  The scene is currently secured by police as they continue to investigate and gather evidence.  We also encourage anyone with information to contact Det. News Release – January 19, 2024

Disturbance at Dairy Queen Leads to Multiple Arrests

On January 18, 2024, at about 11:15, police received reports of a fight that was taking place at Dairy Queen located at Central Ave and Stewart Blvd. As officers were on route, more information was received that someone in the altercation was in possession of a knife. As officers arrived on scene they found that two suspects were fleeing the restaurant. They were located and both arrested in the area. Further investigation revealed that two males, 15 and 18 years of age, attended Dairy Queen and approached the black, male, victim. They uttered derogatory, racial slurs to the victim which instigated the physical altercation. This resulted in the victim being assaulted as he was punched in the head and body. Multiple others became involved in the altercation in attempts to break it up. At some point during the altercation, one of the suspects is seen brandishing a knife. Later after the arrest, it was found that both were in possession of knives and a substance believed to be cocaine. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries. The two male suspects were held for a bail hearing and both charged with criminal harassment, assault, carry concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000.00 and possession of cocaine. This incident is being investigated as a hate motivated crime.

Impaired Investigation Leads to Arrest

On January 14, 2024, at about 7:45pm, police received multiple 911 calls regarding in response to a collision on First Ave. Officers arrived on scene and found that a 31-year-old, male, had lost control of his vehicle, struck a curb and also a parked vehicle. There was significant damage done to the vehicles. The subject attempted to flee the scene however became hung-up in a snowbank nearby. Officers arrived and arrested the driver for fail to remain and impaired driving. He was brought to the Brockville Police Service for further testing which confirmed he was over the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded, licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg and fail to stop after collision. He was released on conditions and a future court date.

 

Arrest Made After Shoplifting Investigation

On January 13, 2024, at about 11:15am, police received a report of a shoplifter who had fled Food Basics, with a bag filled with meat products. Officers attended the area and located the 46-year-old, male, subject. The male attempted to flee after observing the police cruiser. Officers followed and took custody of him in the area of 125 Stewart Blvd. He was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.00 and two counts of fail to comply with probation. Property was recovered and he was released with a future court date.

 

Unwanted Person Leads to Arrest

On January 14, 2024, at about 5:00am, police received a call to a residential area on Central Ave., regarding an unwanted person. Police attended the area and located the 38-year-old, male, subject. It was also known by police that there were grounds for his arrest from a previous incident on January 12, 2024, regarding charges of mischief under $5,000.00 and two counts of fail to comply with undertaking. He was arrested on those charges and held in custody for a bail hearing.  

 

Unwanted Person Leads to Arrest

On January 14, 2024, at about 9:30am, police received a call regarding a 40-year-old, female, who had locked herself in a bathroom at an address on Front Ave., for an extended period of time. Officers arrived and located the female. It was known by police that there were grounds for the females arrest for theft under $5,000.00. This was stemming from an investigation that took place on December 19, 2023. She was later released on conditions and a future court date.

Disturbance Call Leads to an Arrest for Assault

On January 12, 2024, at about 8:00am, police received multiple calls of an unwanted person at a residence on Pearl St. Police arrived on scene and found that a 68-year-old, male, was in an argument with another female. Both individuals lived in the area. What started out as a verbal argument between the two, turned physical when the male subject struck the female with a door. The female received non-life-threatening injuries. The male was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He was later released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Impaired Driver Refused to Provide Breath Sample

On January 11, 2024, at about 8:15pm, police received a call of an intoxicated male, asleep on a table in Pizza Pizza on Parkedale Ave. Officers attended and investigation revealed that the subject in the restaurant was a 60-year-old, male, who was impaired by alcohol. Further information indicated that the male had been operating a motor vehicle. He was arrested for impaired driving and was taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. The male was uncooperative with police and refused to provide a breath sample. Refusing to provide a sample carries the same penalties as the charge of operating over 80mg. His licence was suspended, vehicle was impounded and he was later released with conditions and a future court date for the offences of operation while impaired and refusing to provide a sample.      

 

Family Dispute Leads to Threats and Impaired Charges

On January 10, 2024, at about 2:30pm, police received a call of a family dispute in the area of Brock St. Investigation revealed that a mother had called police as her 37-year-old, son, was threatening to kill his brother. The male subject was believed to be in the downtown area and officers located him shortly after. When they did, they found that he had been drinking alcohol and operating his motor vehicle. He was placed under arrest for uttering threats and a breath sample was demanded. After the test it was determined that he was over the legal limit of alcohol and was impaired. His vehicle was impounded, licence suspended and charged with two counts of uttering threats, operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg and mischief under $5,000.00. He was later released on conditions and a future court date.

 

Erratic Driving Complaint is a Result of Impaired Driving

On January 10, 2024, at about 8:30pm, police received a call regarding an erratic driver in the area of North area of the city. Police responded and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Kensington Pkwy and Centennial Rd. The driver was identified to be a 38-year-old, male, who was obviously impaired. He was immediately placed under arrest. He was taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing, which, confirmed he was over the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded, licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Drug Warrant Executed

On Friday, December 22, 2023, The Brockville Police Service Intelligence Unit and Emergency Response Team assisted by the OPP led Provincial joint forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement team East Region concluded a drug investigation resulting in the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at an address in the South End of Brockville.

As a result, a 56-year-old, male; 38-year-old, male; and a 17-year-old, female youth, were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking in Fentanyl, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine. A quantity of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine were seized. All arrested individuals were released with conditions and future court dates.

 

Assault Investigation Leads to Arrest

On December 20, 2023, at about 1:00am, police received a report of an assault that had taken place a short time prior to the call. The incident had taken place in the area of King St. W. The investigation revealed that an 18-year-old, male, was in a verbal altercation with another male regarding relationship issues with a female. The dispute escalated to the point that the 18-year-old, male, punched and kicked the victim and held a knife up in the air. The injuries are considered minor and non-life-threatening. Police later contacted the subject where he was placed under arrest and charged with assault and assault with a weapon. He was later released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Family Dispute Leads to Arrest and Charges

On December 21, 2023, at about 9:30pm, police received a report of a physical altercation at a residence in the area of Cambridge Cr. Investigation revealed that a 35-year-old, male, became upset at his mother for questioning him about household duties and his substance abuse. As the male subject became more agitated, he eventually rushed at his mother and forced her out of his room using a football style push. The victim fell and did receive injuries that are considered non-life-threatening. The male was arrested and charged with assault. He was later released on conditions with a future court date.

Home Invasion Leads to Multiple Arrests

 

On December 17, 2023, at about 2:30am, police received information of a home invasion that had taken place at an apartment building on King St. E. Police learned that multiple subjects entered into the victim’s apartment. They were in possession of a handgun, struck her in the head and forced her out of her unit and into a neighbouring apartment. While there the assaults continued. Eventually the subjects released the female victim.

The Brockville Police Service responded quickly to secure the area. Members of the Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team were called in to assist. The crime scene was contained and officers were able to eventually clear the suspects unit to check on the safety of everyone inside. The victim did attend the hospital for significant, but non-life-threatening injuries. Parts of an airsoft handgun were located and seized. Three subjects were arrested and held for bail hearings. The three subjects are local to Brockville but do not reside in the building as they were there visiting. The following is the breakdown of the subjects and their charges.

31-year-old, male:

  • Robber using a firearm
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Break and enter
  • Kidnapping – confine

25-year-old, female:

  • Unlawfully in a dwelling
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Kidnapping – confine
  • Robbery with violence

24-year-old, female.     

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Break and Enter
  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Kidnapping – confine

 

News Release – December 16, 2023

Impaired Driver Removed from Roads During RIDE Program

On December 16, 2023, at about 7:30pm, officers from the Brockville Police Service were conducting a RIDE Program, in the area of King St. E and Oxford Ave. A vehicle approached the intersection and proceeded through the RIDE check-point, and continued East bound on Hwy 2. Officers followed the vehicle and observed it pull into a driveway. A 71-year-old, male, was operating the vehicle with a female passenger. The male was observed to be impaired by alcohol and placed under arrest. During the arrest, the male resisted and assaulted one of the officers but luckily, there were no serious injuries. The male was taken for further testing and it was confirmed that he was impaired and operating the vehicle over the legal limit. His Driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg, flight from peace officer, resist arrest and assault peace officer. He was released with a future court date.

 

Stunt Driving While Fleeing RIDE Program

On December 16, 2023, at about 9:30pm, officers from the Brockville Police Service were conducting a RIDE Program, in the area of Stewart Blvd and Front Ave. During that time, a vehicle approached the check-point and then fled at a high rate of speed after squealing the vehicles tires. Officers were able to locate the vehicle at a residence on Centre St. The driver of the vehicle was spoken to and there were no signs of impairment. The 24-year-old, male, was charged with stunt driving and his vehicle was impounded and driver’s licence suspended. 

 

 

News Release – December 14 – 15, 2023

Search Warrant

The Brockville Police Service’s Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit executed a a search warrant under the controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) at a residence on Central Ave. on December 14th, 2023. A 27-year-old male and a 41-year-old male from the Montreal area where arrested and charged with multiple offences under the CDSA. A 45-year-old Brockville resident was also charged as a result of the warrant. A large quantity of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, cellular phones, scales, and packaging material were located during a search of the residence. All three accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.

Female Arrested for Impaired Driving

On December 5, 2023, at about 6:30pm, police received a call regarding a female appearing to be unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle. The vehicle was observed in the area of Downey St. Officers arrived and located a 44-year-old, female, alone in the vehicle and obviously impaired. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. It was also learned that this female had a warrant for her arrest in relation to a theft, which occurred earlier this year in August, at Shoppers Drug Mart. There were no signs of impairment by alcohol and it was believed that she was impaired by drugs. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) performed testing which confirmed that she was impaired. Her licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired by drugs. She was released with conditions and a future court date once sober.

 

Male Arrested After Found Violating Bail Conditions

On December 5, 2023, at about 4:30pm, police received a call regarding a 66-year-old, male, causing issues with staff at Chuck’s Roadhouse. The male became agitated with staff after having discussions over him being unable to pay his bill that he and a female friend had accrued. When officers arrived, they spoke to the male and learned that he was on bail conditions to abstain from communicating with the female he was with. These conditions were put in place in response to a safety concern for the female. The male was placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of fail to comply with undertaking and food and lodging fraud.
