Warrant executed as man calls police to turn self in

A 23 year old Brockville man contacted the Brockville Police late yesterday morning to make arrangements to meet officers and surrender himself on outstanding warrants.

At 11:52 a.m. the man called police and made arrangements to meet officers at a public downtown location and gave a description of what he was wearing to police. He would wait for officers to arrive and then surrender to police. After several minutes waiting he then walked up to the court house where presented himself to court staff and turned himself in.

The 23 year old has had an outstanding warrant since June of this year for a Domestic Assault and a July breach of his conditional sentence order.

Facebook post leads to Domestic Assault arrest

A domestic assault victim who posted injuries on Facebook resulted in Brockville Police showing up at her residence and domestic assault charges against a 46 year old Williamsburg man.

At 11:20 p.m. last evening Brockville Police were alerted by a friend of the 45 year old female of a possible domestic abuse incident which had taken place. The caller told police the woman had posted pictures of her injuries on Facebook.

Officers attended to the victim’s residence and learned the couple had been in an argument which turned physical and she suffered injuries to her eye area. Investigators then contacted the man, who had since left the residence, and he agreed to come to the Brockville Police Station where he surrendered to police.

He was charged with domestic assault and released with several conditions and given a future court date.

Attempted Break in to Centennial Road residence

A Centennial Road resident contacted Brockville Police just before 1:00 a.m. to report that someone was trying to gain entry to the rear of their residence.

The suspect was described as approximately 5’9” tall wearing a baseball cap, and male. Officers responded, checked the area and were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

Door To Door Canvassers in Brockville

Representatives from the charity We Planet Earth campaign “Because I am a Girl with PLAN”/”Doctors Without Borders” have contacted the Brockville Police and City of Brockville to advise they will be going door to door in Brockville between September 26th and October 6th.

Canvassers from this registered charity will be canvassing neighbourhoods to discuss women’s rights issues and in particular the plight of young girls around the world. This charity seeks to advance their rights by providing education, healthcare, food, water and maternal health care.

The canvassers will be wearing identifiable bright pink vests with the charity name and logo on them, as well as badges with their photos and charity registration number. They will NOT be looking to collect any cash or cheques at the door. Those wishing to donate will be directed to the organizations official website or the phone number of the charity itself.

Police Pursuit terminated yesterday

Yesterday morning just before 9am Brockville Police spotted a 32 year old man wanted for several outstanding warrants driving a 1997 light coloured Cadillac in the Kensington Parkway area.

As police turned and began to initiate a traffic stop, the car the man was operating with a female passenger fled northbound. Almost immediately police called off the pursuit as the driver had been identified and the vehicle fled the area.

The young man who currently is wanted for outstanding warrants for charges of 2 counts of Uttering a Forged Document, Possession of Stolen Property; is now facing charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Flight from Police as a result of yesterday’s incident. He is also facing Highway Traffic Act charges of Driving while under suspension and racing.

The investigation is continuing.

Assist EMS with a Suspected Drug Overdose

Officers with the Brockville Police were called yesterday afternoon to assist Leeds and Grenville EMS with a male patient who had passed out behind the Sheridan Mews tunnel.

At 4:40 p.m. officers arrived in the area of Sheridan Mews and located a 48 year old man who was well known to officers in attendance. Officers suspected he may be suffering from a drug overdose and he was treated at the scene by paramedics from Leeds and Grenville EMS and conveyed to Brockville General Hospital.

Late last evening the same person was spotted walking wearing his hospital gown and driven home by officers for his well-being after confirming he had been discharged.

Youth Mental Health and Addictions Forum

The Leeds and Grenville Human Services and Justice Coordinating Committee is presenting a Youth Mental Health and Addictions Forum Tuesday evening at the St. Mary’s School Library from 6:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m.

The public forum was a jury recommendation of the May 2014 Coroner’s Inquest into the death of local resident Matthew Roke. Matthew was an active youth in the community when he and his family started noticing signs that he was not well in his late teens and early twenties. He became increasingly frightened and afraid to leave his house; his sleep was disrupted and would not sleep and night. Matt and his family struggled to find the right help for Matt in the local mental health community right until the time of his passing.

After last year’s forum and hearing Jody Roke speak about her son’s life, participants felt this year’s forum should concentrate on Youth Mental Health Services in Leeds and Grenville. This year speakers from Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, RNJ Youth Services, Connections, will present. As well, Mark Heffernan of the Brockville Police Service will speak about a proactive Community Oriented Patrol program operated by the Brockville Police Service to help those in need locally and Andreas von Cramen will speak about how Legal Aid Ontario can be of assistance.

Several agencies will have displays and people present including Connect Youth, Municipal Drug Strategy of South Grenville, Making Play Possible, Family and Children’s Services of Leeds and Grenville and Victim’s Services of Leeds and Grenville.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and participate in the forum. The cost is free and there will be a question and answer period during the forum.

Court arrest leads to short foot pursuit

Yesterday afternoon court officers from the Brockville Police Service were involved in a short foot pursuit after spotting a 20 year old Brockville man who had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

At approximately 2:05 p.m. Special Constables from the Brockville Police working security at the court building spotted the young man coming into the court building. One of the Special Constables remembered the man had an outstanding warrant and confirmed this with his colleagues and confronted the subject in the lobby of the court building. After a brief conversation, the man took off out the north doors of the court building on foot. After a brief foot chase the man gave up and surrendered to police, and taken into custody.

The 20 year old will appear in Brockville court today.

Stunt Driving charges from Water Street Incident

A 23 year old Brockville man is facing charges of Stunt Driving and had his vehicle impounded for 7 days after witnesses observed him doing “brake burns” on Water and Market Streets around 9 p.m. last evening.

A witness who contacted police caught the young man and his vehicle on camera squealing his tires and turned the information over to police. Another witness obtained a license plate number of the involved vehicle and a short time later police located the car and driver at his residence. He admitted to driving his vehicle earlier in the evening.

As a result he was charged by Brockville Police officers with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act and served a Provincial Offences Notice.

Brockville hosting the Police Association of Ontario Civilian Conference

The Brockville Police Association will be hosting the Fall Quarterly Civilian Conference of the Police Association of Ontario from October 1st – 3rd at the Brockville Convention Centre next to the Holiday Inn Express on Kent Boulevard.

Presentations begin Monday morning and include; Brockville Police Chaplain Jonathan Zinck speaking on Protecting Police Employees from Job Related Stress and Trauma, The Brockville Police Community Outreach Program, and Community Involvement by The Cornwall Police Association. Participants will be updated on ongoing discussions regarding amendments to the Police Services Act by PAO President Bruce Chapman.

At the end of the day Monday, participants will bus to downtown Brockville and take a tour of the newly opened Railway Tunnel before going out for dinner.

Tuesday, participants will hear from the Niagara Regional Police Association on Performance Improvement Plans before have a round table discussion on recent topics of interest which have come up across the province to conclude the Conference.

Update on Kitten Investigation from June 24th

On June 24th a witness attended to the Brockville Police Service to report he was leaving the 1000 Islands Mall and travelling east on Parkedale Avenue when he observed white kitten which he believed was thrown from a vehicle in front of him. In addition he was able to provide officers with dash camera footage of the traffic on Parkedale at the time.

The witness followed the kitten into the Trillium property and bring it to a place of safety where it could be treated for the injuries it suffered during the incident.

Investigators reviewed the Dash camera footage which begins at approximately 7:05 p.m. on June 24th in front on Tim Horton’s on Parkedale, slowing it down and pausing the film. Officers were able to identify pedestrians and vehicles in the area at the time and interview them in relation to the incident. However, after all the interviews were concluded and the footage reviewed in detail, officers were not able to identify the responsible person or vehicle due to the traffic on Parkedale Avenue at the time.

There is some good news on this investigation. Staff at the shelter which “Casper” was taken to recover report he has recovered from his injuries and has been adopted by a caring local family. The “I Am Alive” Shelter and Brockville Police Service would like to thank everyone who assisted in investigation and recovery of Casper.

Intoxicated man located on Via Rail tracks

VIA Rail contacted the Brockville Police yesterday afternoon around 2:20 p.m. to report one of their trains reported a man walking near the tracks as trains approached. The train coming in to the Brockville station eventually had to stop for the man and the train conductor got off the train to speak with him until police arrived.

Officers responding from the station, met the VIA conductor and a 47 year old Brockville man who is known to police. It was obvious to all present the man was well under the influence of alcohol and unable to care for himself.

For his own protection he was placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place and taken into police custody at the Brockville Police Station.  He was released when sober with a provincial offences notice.

Walmart arrest for Fraud

A 21 year old Brockville man is facing charges of Fraud Under $5000 and Breach of his Probation after an incident yesterday afternoon.

Officers from the Brockville Police responded to Walmart at approximately 3:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon after receiving a call from staff that the Loss Prevention Officer has apprehended the man and was struggling with him.

When officer’s arrived the young man was taken into custody and brought to the Brockville Police Station. Further investigation revealed that mail was attempting to make fraudulent returns at the store when he was approached by Loss Prevention, as well as being on probation at the time of the incident. He was released from custody with a future court date.

Break and Enter Interrupted

Just after 4:00 p.m. yesterday officers from the Brockville Police responded to a break and enter complaint on Park Street in Brockville near the intersection of Charles Street.

The resident of the home reported he was inside his residence when an unknown male described as wearing blue jeans, dark coloured hoodie with the hood pulled up and black belt with markings on it attempted to gain entry into the residence. When the suspect observed the resident to be home and the suspect fled the scene.

Investigators believe someone in the area may have seen the suspect running away from the residence and believe he may have stood out wearing a hoodie yesterday afternoon in the high temperatures.

Vehicle damaged at Reynold Drive parking lot

A 43 year old woman returned to her vehicle she had parked in the rear parking lot of a Reynolds Drive apartment to learn her driver’s side and rear windows had been smashed out.

The victim who works as a personal support worker (PSW) was visiting a client in the building at approximately 8:20 p.m. when she learned of the damage to her vehicle. Witnesses describe two men swinging baseball bats at her silver Nissan and fleeing the scene in a silver or beige Dodge Caravan type vehicle. The victim’s vehicle was so badly damaged it had to be towed from the scene. Police continue to seek and interview witnesses to a get better description of possible suspects.

Assault at BGH

Brockville Police were called to assist staff at the Brockville General Hospital Sunday morning after a patient became unruly after being told he would have to wait to be escorted outside for a cigarette.

On arrival, officers learned the 24 year old male patient had asked staff permission to attend outside for a cigarette. The man was advised he could but would have to wait his turn. With this the man became upset and grabbed a female staff member and threatened her. Another patient intervened to stop the altercation and he too was struck by the 24 year old man a number of times.

At the time of these occurrences, officers also confirmed the young man to be on probation for January convictions of mischief, and assault. He is now facing additional charges of breaching his probation and two counts of assault as a result of this incident.

Break and Enter at Cartier Court Apartment

Early last evening Brockville Police responded to a call from a Cartier Court resident that his apartment had been broken into while he was away during the day.

At 6:15 pm officers attended to the Cartier Court residence where they met the victim who told police he had been out for approximately two hours with his daughter and when he returned found the place had been ransacked. While officers were present he could not find anything that had been missing in the apartment, just a mess that had been left behind.

A short time later, the victim called officers back to the apartment when he located a purse inside that did not belong to any of the occupants but rather a 33 year old woman Brockville woman.

As a result, the woman was located with the assistance of Leeds OPP whom also had dealings with her and arrested and charged with Break and Enter and released with several conditions and a future court date.

Mischiefs in Cowan’s Dairy area

Several calls were received from residents in the area of Cowan’s Dairy of property damage to lawn ornaments, decorations and property from overnight.

Officers are still investigating and have canvassed area business and residents for video.

Domestic Assault leads to arrest

On the 22nd of September, 2017, a 40 year old Brockville woman attended to the Brockville Police Service to report an incident from the previous evening involving her common law boyfriend.  The couple engaged in a dispute that turned physical and has now resulted in the 28 year old boyfriend being arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with the conditions of his probation.  The man remains in custody and will appear in court on Monday for a bail hearing.  No injuries requiring medical attention were reported.

Disturbance leads to fighting by-law charges for two Brockville men

On the 23rd of September, 2017 at approximately 03:34 hours police responded to the area of Home Street and King Street after receiving a 911 call for service.  Dispatch could hear a lot of yelling and swearing on the line during the call reporting a fight at that location.  As a result, 2 men aged 30 and 21 respectively were located and charged under the fighting by-law for the City of Brockville.  Both Brockville men were issued provincial offence notices with an associated fine of 300.00 dollars.  No injuries reported.

Break and Enter

Police were called to a Park Street residence early Wednesday morning for another report of a daytime break and enter.

Shortly after 9am, a Park Street resident was startled by a loud bang outside her door. At that time, a lone male was seen running from the back yard. Investigation revealed that the male had forced the locked door of the home open, but did not gain entry. He fled the area on foot after seeing the homeowner.

The male is described as being approximately 6 feet tall with short brown hair wearing black shorts and a black t-shirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127, Extension 0.

Impaired Driver:

A 60 year old Brockville woman was charged Wednesday afternoon for Refusing a Breath Sample.

Shortly after 1pm, police received a complaint about the female driver, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. A short time later, officers observed the female driving on Parkedale Avenue. After conducting a traffic stop, police formed the opinion that the female was in fact under the influence of alcohol. The woman refused to comply with police and provide a sample of her breath for analysis.

She will appear in Court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Surety withdraws leading to arrest

A 24 year old Brockville man was arrested yesterday morning after his surety attended to the court and withdrew his name.

On Monday, the surety for the man attended to Brockville Court and fulfilled his surety obligations by reporting the young man was not abiding by his conditions and asked that his name be removed as surety. As a result of this, a warrant was issued by the court for his arrest. Yesterday morning, the man was spotted in a business on King Street at 9:30 a.m. and placed under arrest for the warrant and held for bail.

The young man was originally before the courts on several domestic related charges stemming from a July 29th incident this year. He was released from custody in relation to those charges on a recognizance of bail with a surety.

Arrest in Neighbour Dispute

A 28 year old Brockville man was arrested yesterday afternoon in relation to an August 6th neighbour dispute.

On August 6th the victim was in his back yard doing some work on a vehicle in his driveway. The man was bothered by the noise that was being and told the victim the noise was bothering him. The victim told him it would be a couple of minutes and he would be finished. A short time later, the man emerged again from his residence and threw a can of beer at the neighbour. After the neighbour threw the can back, the 28 year old again emerged from his residence swinging a hatchet and threatening the victim.

Police were contacted and investigated and after being unsuccessful in locating the man requested a warrant for his arrest. Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. officers spotted the accused walking on Ormond Street and executed the warrant.

Canadian Police Memorial Run/Ride Traffic Disruptions Friday and Saturday

This Friday and Saturday the Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember and National Peace Officers Memorial Run will both be travelling through Brockville on Friday and Saturday. Area residents are being asked to drive carefully and give runners and cyclist’s extra room when passing.

Cyclists will be arriving in Brockville between 4:15-5:00 pm via Highway 2 west and proceed east on King Street to the Court House Green.   Some of the cyclists will remain at the Court House while others will travel north on Stewart Blvd to Canadian Tire for a 5:00 pm ceremony and presentation.

Runners will arrive at Highway 2 West and the Lyn Rd at approximately 5pm. They will depart the Lyn Rd at approximately 5:15 pm travelling east on King Street and running to Court House Green. Those wishing to join the runners are welcome.

At approximately 5:45 pm at Court House a ceremony involving all the cyclists and runners honouring those Peace Officers who have fallen in the line of duty will take place. All members of the public are invited to participate in the ceremony.

Saturday morning cyclists and runners will depart Brockville at 8:00 a.m. from Court House travelling east on King Street and Highway 2 East. Runners will arrive in Prescott just before 10 a.m. and follow Highway 2 to Cardinal before turning north on the Shanly Road.

Daytime Break and Enter on Oxford Ave

An Oxford Avenue resident who left her house for a few hours on Monday morning returned to find someone had entered her residence and made off with some jewelry and some loose change.

Yesterday morning just before 11 a.m. the Brockville Police received a call from the victim reporting she had left her house earlier in the morning and locked her doors only to return home to find one of the entrances to her home had some damage. Officers responded and Brockville Police Scenes of Crimes officers photographed the scene and processed the house for forensic evidence.

At the time of the report the victim was still going through her belongings to see if there are items that are missing.

Ringing Cell Phone leads to Breach of Probation Charge

A cell phone ringing in Hardy Park that drew the attention of residents who contacted Brockville Police led to the arrest of a 22 year old Brockville man for breaching his probation order.

Brockville Police responded to a complaint of a cell phone which could be heard ringing in Hardy Park. When officers arrived they found the 22 year old man who was known to officers intoxicated and sitting on a park bench. Further investigation revealed that he was currently subject to a probation order with a condition that he abstains from the consumption of alcohol.

As a result he was placed under arrest for breach of probation and conveyed to the Brockville Police station where he was held overnight until he was sober and release with a future court date to face his new charges.

Big win for Little Brothers and Sister in Baseball Game

It was a big win for the Little Brothers and Sisters last night at the Annual Law Enforcement-Big Brothers Big Sisters baseball game.

The Little Brothers and Sisters went through the complete batting order 3 times in the 3 inning game and blasted the team of law enforcement officers in a fun game at Goldie Christopher Park last night.

The Brockville Police Service would like to thank everyone involved with the game including the staff and volunteers of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville and the family of the late Provincial Constable Gary Brewin who started the annual game and who come out every year to support the event. There were lots of smiles and laughs all over the diamond last night and we look forward to next years game.

Repeated Text Messages leads to arrest for Breach of Conditions

A 34 year old Brockville man is in custody this morning as a result of an investigation which began over the weekend of him repeatedly calling, text messaging and emailing his former girlfriend.

Sunday afternoon around 12:30 pm the complainant attended to the Brockville Police Service to reports that over the past 15 months since his initial arrest in May 2016 for assault during a domestic disturbance the man has been contacting via text message, email and over the phone. As a result of the May 2016 arrest, the man was released before a Justice of the Peace on a Recognizance of Bail with a condition not communicate directly or indirectly by any physical, electronic or other means with the woman.

As a result of this, when he attended to the front desk of the Brockville Police Service for his regular sign- in condition this morning he was placed under arrest for breaching his recognizance and held in custody pending a bail hearing later today.

Curfew Violation leads to arrest

Members of the Brockville Police Service who were out checking compliance with curfew conditions found a 19 year old Brockville man violating his release conditions.

At 10:30 p.m. last evening officers attended to a King Street West residence to check to see if the man was inside his house as per the conditions of his Recognizance of Bail.

The man was released from custody on Friday afternoon in Brockville Court after charges of Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Peace officer and breaching of previous release conditions the result of an incident last week. Officers found the man was not home and advised the other patrol officers they were looking for him.

A short time later the man was located in the area of the Brockville General Hospital and placed under arrest for violating the curfew conditions of his Recognizance and conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where he was held overnight and conveyed to court today for a bail hearing.

Big Brothers/Big Sister Baseball Game

Tonight from 6pm-8pm at Goldie Christopher Park (rear of the Brockville Memorial Centre) is the annual Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville Baseball-Law Enforcement baseball game.

The annual game is a September tradition started by Big Brothers and Big Sisters and a group of local Law Enforcement Officers including former Leeds OPP Constable Gary Brewin whose family still participates in the annual event. All are welcome to come enjoy the laughs and support the Big Brother and Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville.
