Impaired Drivers
Brockville Police Officers were kept busy yesterday dealing with a couple of impaired driving incidents in the city.
Yesterday afternoon shortly after 2:00 p.m. an officer was flagged down on Pearl St at Brockville Collegiate (BCI) regarding a vehicle which had left the roadway and was stuck in the snow on the front lawn area of the school. When the officer and passerby went to assist the driver they noticed an odour of alcohol on her breath and other signs of impairment.
The 44 year old Brockville woman was arrested at the scene for impaired driving and conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where she provided breath samples over twice the legal limit. She was released from custody with a Promise to Appear at a future court date. Her vehicle was seized and a quantity of alcoholic beverages was located inside the car.
Just after 5:30 p.m. officers received a complaint from a witness at one of the gas stations at the Parkedale and Stewart Boulevard intersection of a male who appeared intoxicated and was having difficulty pumping gas into his vehicle. A witness attempted to speak with the man but was told to mind his own business and the driver left.
The 54 year old man was located a short time later in the area of the A+W drive thru and was arrested for impaired driving. He was also brought to the Brockville Police Service where he provided breath samples over three times the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded and he is also facing charges of impaired driving and driving with over the legal limit of alcohol in his system and will appear at a future court date.
Arrest Warrant
A 49 year old man from Toronto was arrested and returned to Brockville yesterday after he was involved in a motor vehicle collision and Toronto Police discover he had an outstanding warrant in Brockville.
In October of 2015 a fraudulent credit card was used to purchase over $5000 in copper wire from a local electrical company. Detectives learned the copper wire was then transported to a business in Toronto by a moving company where it was then transferred to the accused in a minivan. When they were unable to locate the man, a warrant was obtained for his arrested for possession of stolen property over $5000.
The man was arrested by Toronto Police and held in custody until court officers from the Brockville Police Service attended and returned him to Brockville where he remains in custody pending a bail hearing later today.
