OPP Cruiser involved in minor collision

Early Monday evening Brockville Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Stewart Boulevard and Jefferson Drive involving an OPP vehicle.

Shortly after 6:00 pm officers attended to the intersection when a 2017 Mitsubishi LES being operated by 57 year old male from the United States struck the OPP cruiser in the intersection. Leeds and Grenville EMS attended as a precaution to check on the well-being of an elderly passenger in the Mitsubishi who suffered minor injuries and was released at the scene.

The 57 year old man was charged with Failing to Stop for a Red Light under the Highway Traffic Act and given a Provincial Offences Notice. The OPP officer was not injured in the collision.

 

Disturbance on Pearl Street West

Residents on Pearl Street West near John Street were awakened late last evening by a disturbance involving three Brockville men.

Brockville Police received several calls shortly after 10pm last evening of a fight going on outside involving several men and the callers reported hearing glass breaking. On police arrival parties had left the area however officers observed blood on the deck of one of the residences in the area and located two of the involved males at a nearby house. While at the residence, officers observed a quantity of drugs which was seized. One of the males had cuts to his head and was transported to Brockville General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Further investigation revealed the 28 year old male being treated at the hospital had outstanding warrants for his arrest and was already out of custody on bail conditions.

As a result when he was released from the hospital the 28 year old was taken into custody at the Brockville Police Service for the outstanding warrants and as a result of this incident is facing further drug charges and charges for breaching his bail conditions. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing this afternoon. The other male, a 23 year old Brockville resident is facing drug charges and he was arrested as well and released from custody with a future court date.

April 17 – 18, 2017 Incidents

Community Services

A 32 year old Gananoque man was apprehended and conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital last evening for assessment after an incident at the Days Inn.

The man checked into the Days Inn approximately 3:30 pm yesterday afternoon where he was to stay for two nights. Staff at the hotel observed the male acting peculiar and wandering the hallways and seemingly in distress. Staff at the Days Inn eventually called Brockville Police shortly after 8:00 pm who attended and eventually conveyed him to the Brockville General Hospital for assessment.

The young man was admitted to the hospital after examination.

 

Trespassing by Night

A Pearl Street West resident called police last evening when she observed a male looking in her front window.

At approximately 9:30 pm last evening Brockville Police received a call from the female resident on Pearl St West in the area between John and Daniel Street looking into the front window of her residence. Because it was dark outside she was only able to give a limited description of an older male who seemed to have a tape measure visible on his belt. He was last seen walking westbound on Pearl St West toward John Street.

April 17, 2017 Incidents

Mischief to vehicles

Police again received complaints of mischief to vehicles parked in the area of Kensington Pkwy. Reports of slashed tires on three separate vehicles were received. Police encourage anyone with information to contact the Brockville Police Service and or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

April 15 – 16, 2017 Incidents

North End Business Break-ins

Police are investigating two break and enters to two separate businesses at the Stewart Plaza and Walmart Centre that occurred between the 13th and 15th of April where an undisclosed amount of cash taken. Mischief to Property

Police are investigating a series of incidents involving mischief to several vehicles in the parking lot of the Millwood Avenue townhomes which occurred sometime overnight on Friday. Several of the vehicles had damage to the windshields and wiper blades were removed. The matter is still being investigated. If you have any information please contact the investigating officer, Cst. Assault

In the early morning hours of April 16th 2017, police attended a downtown residence for a domestic dispute. A 22 year old female was arrested and charged with assault and was released a future court date.

 

April 15th, 2017 Incidents

Arrest Warrant

In February Brockville Police had arrested a 41 year old male for dangerous driving and fleeing from police. He also disposed of illicit narcotics during the pursuit which were recovered. He was released with a future court date and on conditions, one of which was not to operate a motor vehicle.   The accused then failed to attend court in April and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On the date of April 14th 2017 the Ontario Provincial Police stopped this man for speeding on the 401 highway in the Kingston area. He was charged with breaching his conditions and suspended driving and conveyed to the Brockville Police. He was arrested for the offence of failing to attend court and held for video remand court this morning. The court released him on an undertaking with a future court date.

 

Disturbance

On the morning of the 15th of April a disturbance broke out in a north end restaurant between a 28 year old male and his 22 year old step son. Both had been drinking and became involved in an argument with each other. The older male lost the battle and fled shirtless and bleeding from the nose. He was located by police a short distance away and taken into custody for his drunken behavior. He was released in the morning when sober.

 

Dangerous Prank

A 26 year old local man was the victim of a dangerous prank by an irresponsible driver and friends. The man was walking home in the area George Street and Beecher Street at approximately 3:00 am this morning when what he described as an orange 4 door Dodge Charger drove by him at high speed almost mounting the sidewalk and threw a Subway take out cup full of drink at him and hit him with it. April 12, 2017 Incidents

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Yesterday afternoon between 2pm and 2:30pm seemed to be an unlucky time to be on roads in the City of Brockville as officers responded to 3 separate motor vehicle collisions during that period.

Officers received a report of the first accident at 2:00 pm in the parking lot of the north end power centre when a parked 2016 Hyundai Elantra was struck causing minor damage to the rear of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle striking the Elantra made several attempts to locate the vehicle owner by reporting the incident to store management in the area, leaving her contact information, as well as reporting the incident to police.

Approximately 15 minutes later officers responded to a collision near the intersection of Ormond Street and Central Ave resulting in minor injuries and vehicles being towed from the scene. A 4 door sedan was travelling eastbound on Central Avenue through the intersection at Ormond Street when it struck a small pickup truck attempting to make a right turn on the red light from Ormond Street eastbound onto Central Avenue. The driver of the pickup truck was charged with failing to yield under the Highway Traffic and given a provincial offences notice.

At 2:21 officers responded to another motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Stewart Boulevard and Front Ave. A southbound truck on Stewart Blvd struck a vehicle negotiating a left hand turn from Stewart Blvd onto Front Ave. Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of this collision and the driver of the car was charged under Section 141(5) of the Highway Traffic Act for making a left turn- not in safety.

April 11 – 12, 2017 Incidents

Warrants Executed at Court

A 17 year old Brockville youth and a 21 year old male surrendered themselves to police at Brockville Court yesterday after learning there were outstanding warrants for their arrests

In the first incident, the youth attended court and turned himself in to Brockville Police court staff who confirmed the outstanding warrant for failing to attend court on a previous occasion. He was taken into custody at that time and will appear in youth court this morning for a bail hearing.

Shortly after 4 pm the 21 year old male turned himself in at Brockville Court for an outstanding warrant issued when he failed to attend for his March 24th court appearance. At the time the court had closed for the day and he was held in custody and will appear today for a bail hearing this afternoon.

 

Breach of Recognizance

A 33 year old Ottawa man is in custody for Breaching his Recognizance following a traffic stop last evening.

Officers spotted the vehicle on King Street West in the area of St. Lawrence Park last evening 10:30 pm and stooped the vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, who is known to police, was found to be on a Recognizance of Bail for previous impaired driving charges with a curfew to be inside his Ottawa residence at the time of the stop.

As a result he was arrested for Breaching his Recognizance and found to be in possession of various drug paraphernalia and his 17 year old passenger found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

As a result, the 33 year old man was held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing later today.

 

Mischief

Yesterday morning Brockville Police received a call from the Brockville Country Club reporting mischief to one of the fairways.

Sometime over the last week, unknown person(s) attended to the fairway and carved an object into the grass causing minor damage.

While yesterday’s incident is minor, it continues a disturbing trend for the Country Club which has been victimized a number of times over the winter months. The Club’s workshop off of Centre Street has been broken into twice and golf carts have been stolen and vandalized.

April 10, 2017 Incidents

Community Outreach Program

The Brockville Police and our area Community Mental Health Agencies were out yesterday conducting proactive checks on members of the community at risk. This program has a police officer and a social worker riding together to visit the homes of persons who have been in crisis and frequent users of both services in the recent past. The goal is to avoid hospitalization or involvement in the criminal justice system by referring individuals in need to the appropriate agency.

Yesterday, the team identified and visited 5 residences and spoke with the individuals identified to have been in crisis recently or on diversionary programs. The team was well received and referrals for assistance were made to appropriate local agencies for assistance.

 

Unwanted Person

A community health worker got a surprise when she went to check on her client yesterday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 pm Brockville Police received a call from a health worker who went to visit her client at a Cartier Court apartment. When she knocked at the door to check on her 65 year old male client, a 44 year old woman answered the door. The woman appeared to be extremely intoxicated and the worker contacted police.

Investigation revealed the woman had taken one of the medications prescribed to the male resident causing her impairment, and was transported to the Brockville General Hospital by EMS.

April 9, 2017 Incidents

Domestic Assault

A 23 year old Brockville man is facing charges of domestic assault following an incident yesterday afternoon on Millwood Avenue.

Brockville Police received a call Sunday afternoon shortly after 3 pm of a young couple fighting outside a vehicle at a residence on Millwood Ave. The verbal argument turned physical and witnesses called police to report what was taking place after they heard the screams of the victim.

The young man who will appear in Brockville court next month was released from custody with several conditions including not having any contact with the victim.

 

Warrants

A 39 year Brockville woman was arrested late yesterday afternoon for several outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court.

While on patrol, offices observed the woman sitting in front of her residence. The woman was known to the officer, who was also aware of the outstanding warrant which was confirmed through further investigation.

As a result she was arrested and held for bail later today in Brockville Court.

 

April 8, 2017 Incidents

Shoplifting

On the 8th of April, 2017 at approximately 10:49 am a 54 year old Brockville woman was apprehended for shoplifting at the Real Canadian Superstore located on Parkedale Avenue. Police attended, spoke to the loss prevention officer and continued the arrest of the woman who was later released with a future court date for the charge of theft under $5000 dollars contrary to the Criminal Code.

 

Theft from Vehicle

On the 8th of April, 2017 at approximately 9 pm the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a theft from vehicle. The complainant had parked their car at 100 Strowger Blvd. between the hours of 11:30 am and 7 pm for work and when leaving discovered that someone had entered his vehicle and had taken a number of items.
