Breach of Probation

A 22 year old Brockville resident is facing Breach of Probation charges after being found by officers under the influence of alcohol last evening.

At approximately 10:30 pm officers on patrol observed a male trying to break the glass at the Scotiabank on King Street. Officers went over to try and stop the young man and speak with him to find out what was going on and found him to be under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed he was on probation with a condition that he abstains from the consumption of alcohol.

As a result he was arrested and held until sober and released from custody with a future court date for his new Breach of Probation charge. There was no damage to the window at the Scotiabank.

 

Arrest Warrant: Fail to Attend Court

While on patrol at 11pm last evening on Central Avenue, Brockville Police officers spotted a 51 year old Brockville woman wanted for failing to attend court on Friday February 24th. The woman was arrested without incident and conveyed to Brockville Police headquarters where she is being held in custody until Wednesday afternoon when she will appear at Brockville Court for a Bail Hearing.

 

Kijiji Fraud

Detectives with the Brockville Police Services Criminal investigation Branch are reminding residents to be extremely cautious of online purchases where the victim is being asked for a deposit to hold an item for viewing or sale.

A 31 year old man attended to the Brockville Police Service to report that he had agreed to make a deposit through e-transfer to view a 2010 Lexus he was interested in purchasing which he had found on Kijiji. The fraudster had provided a Hotmail.com email address to transfer the money to a Brockville address to view the vehicle and his wife’s name and a phone number to contact. When he arrived at the residence to see the vehicle, there was no car for sale and no one at the residence with the name provided, and residents had no idea about a vehicle for sale and the male victim had lost his deposit.

Brockville Police are reminding residents to never electronically transfer money to persons, businesses or organizations you do not know or trust. Prior to completing online purchases, search the individual, business, organization online for other similar scams. Be extremely cautious if asked to transfer money to Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail accounts you do not know or recognize or sending money to persons outside of Canada.

And finally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

February 27 – 28, 2017

Suspicious Vehicle

Brockville Police are looking to speak with the occupants of a newer model black van in relation to an incident on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 325pm a 10 year old girl was walking home from school in the area of Pearl and Park Streets when a black van approached her. The male passenger in the front of the van proceeded to yell something out the window about the young girl’s family to her. The frightened young lady then ran home and told her parents about what happened, and they contacted police who attended and spoke with her.

The van is described as a newer model black van with tinted windows and had a red and blue bandana hanging from the rear view mirror. The driver was described as female with blonde hair and there was a male passenger in both the front passenger seat and rear passenger seat. The girl did not recognize any of the occupants as family friends.

Mischief at Prince of Wales School

Custodians at Prince of Wales School arrived yesterday to find a broken window to the west side entrance doors of the school.

Sometime over the weekend unknown person(s) attended to the school and threw a piece of asphalt at the glass in the doors of the school, smashing the glass. No entrance was gained during the incident.

February 25 – 26, 2017

Fail to stop/Drugs

While on general patrol Brockville Police, observed a motor vehicle south bound on Stewart travelling in excess of 100 km/hr. Police subsequently attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver initially refused to pull over. The driver threw a package out the window as he travelled south up the overpass adjacent the Ford dealership. The vehicle stopped on Stewart at Brock Street. Police recovered a quantity of cocaine that had been thrown out of the vehicle. A 41 year old has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and possession of cocaine. His vehicle was also impounded for 7 days under the Highway Traffic Act.

February 24 – 25, 2017

Warrants/Drug Offences

On Friday, February 24, officers working at the court house recognized a 49 year old male standing outside. Knowing that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant the court staff approached to arrest him. When he observed the officers he attempted to discard a quantity of drugs. He was arrested and the drugs were quickly recovered. He was remanded into custody.

 

Warrants/Drug Offences

Also arrested yesterday was a 39 year old male that was located at a downtown address. He had outstanding warrants and was located with a small quantity of drugs on his person. He has also been remanded into custody.

 

Frauds

Brockville Police are investigating two separate fraudulent incidents where the suspect befriends the victim through social media. The victims are then coerced into giving the suspects funds. One of the frauds has exceeded $20,000. Police are actively investigating these occurrences.

 

Accidents

On Friday Brockville Police investigated a motor vehicle accident on Reynolds Drive at Glenn Wood Pl. One driver was transported to Brockville General Hospital with minor injuries. The second driver involved was charged with careless driving.

 

On Saturday morning a single motor vehicle struck a Hydro pole on Chaffey St. at Morgan Lane. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Brockville General Hospital.

 

Warrants

As a result of investigating one of these accidents, officers located and arrested a 3rd male wanted on outstanding warrants. He was released with a future court date.

February 23 – 24, 2017

Break and Enter Charges

A 24 year old Brockville man is facing break and enter and mischief charges after an argument with his 23 year old girlfriend early yesterday morning. Early Thursday morning the young man had been drinking, and the couple began arguing at the woman’s house before he left the residence for the remainder of the night. At approximately 6 a.m. Thursday morning Brockville Police received a call from the residence indicating the now intoxicated male had broken into the residence and was now sleeping in the basement. Further investigation revealed he had mistakenly entered three other residences in the area looking for his girlfriend’s house before finding the correct residence.

Responding officers arrested the male for break and enter and mischief in relation to the incidents and held him until he was sober. He was released with several conditions and given a future court date.

 

Impaired Driving a Motor Assisted Bicycle

Last evening at approximately 610 p.m. officers stopped a Motor Assisted Bicycle on Buell Street for a Highway Traffic Act infraction and found the operator to be under the influence of alcohol.

The 41 year old Brockville man was driving his gas-powered bike on Buell Street and having troubles braking when officers stopped him. While speaking with the man, it was obvious to them he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Officers then arrested the man for impaired driving, as a Motorized Bicycle is a motor vehicle, and demanded he provide breath samples which the man refused. Further investigation revealed the operator was a disqualified driver for life for previous convictions of impaired driving.

As a result the Brockville man is now facing charges of impaired driving, refusal to provide breath samples and driving while disqualified. He was also released from custody and given a future court date.

February 22 – 23, 2017 Incidents

Impaired Driving by Drugs

A 20 year old Brockville woman is facing charges of impaired driving by drugs and possession of a controlled substance as a result of a traffic complaint yesterday morning. At approximately 730 am Brockville Police received a call from a motorist who was following a Silver Honda Civic northbound on Ormond Street driving erratically. The caller was able to provide dispatchers the licence number of the vehicle and direction of travel and relay this to officers who stopped the car on Ormond Street at Bramshot Avenue.

While officers did not detect an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath they were of the opinion she was impaired by drugs and arrested her for impaired driving and conveyed her to the police station. Once at the station, a large quantity of assorted pills was found on her person. She was subsequently turned over to a Drug Recognition officer who performed tests for impaired and confirmed the arresting officers suspicions.

As a result the young woman is now facing charges of Impaired Driving, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was released from custody with a future court date.

 

Domestic Disturbance

A 24 year old Brockville man and his 19 year old girlfriend both face charges in relation to a domestic disturbance yesterday afternoon at a King Street apartment complex.

Brockville Police received a complaint from neighbours at the building who could hear yelling and fighting taking place in the apartment and responded. On arrival police were able to separate the parties and learned the fighting had been going on for some time and turned physical at moments.

As a result, both parties are facing domestic assault charges and released on conditions with a future court date.

 

 

February 21 – 22, 2017

Impaired Driving

A 42 year old Brockville woman is facing charges of impaired driving as a result of an early morning traffic stop in the city’s north end. At approximately 12:30 this morning officers while on patrol noticed a 1998 Jeep being driven erratically. They followed the vehicle for a brief time before stopping it on Peden Blvd. Upon speaking with the driver and odour of alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath and she was arrested for impaired driving and taken to Brockville Police Headquarters for breath tests. The driver provided samples more than twice the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle and was later released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date.

 

Latest Internet Banking Scam

Brockville Police are receiving increasing complaints of a new version of an Internet Banking Fraud targeting area residents. The potential victim receives a fraudulent email which is made to look like it is coming from your bank, citing an unsuccessful sign in to your online banking account. The receiver is then asked to click on a link provided in the email to confirm personal and account information. To look authentic, the email also includes phone numbers to contact for assistance.

Police are advising anyone who receives these email to not respond, click on the link or provide any personal information online to anyone you do not know. If you have received and responded to a similar email, it is recommended that you immediately change your passwords on your internet banking accounts and notify your banks security department or contact your local branch.

Should anyone have questions with regard to emails received identifying themselves as bank employees please contact your local bank branch before responding. The Canadian Anti-Fraud website at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca is also an excellent resource to search for up to date fraudulent activity.

February 20 – 21, 2017 Incidents

Drug Warrant

At 7:15pm Monday evening members of the Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team, Drug Unit and Grenville OPP Drug unit executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a Central Avenue residence in Brockville.

Once inside the residence officers were able to locate a 43 year old Brockville man who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for failing to attend court, in relation a July arrest for a drug warrant on his previous residence and a Christmas Day traffic stop where a quantity of drugs was located in his vehicle after a drug warrant search.

During the search officers seized 16.5 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, 9.5 grams of cocaine, 63 Hydromorphone pills, drug trafficking materials, and over $2000 in cash. The drugs have a street value of over $3000.

As a result the Brockville man will face an additional 4 charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and will be appearing in Brockville Court at 2pm today for a Bail Hearing.

 

Domestic Dispute

A 31 year old Brockville woman is facing domestic assault charges as a result of a domestic dispute with her common law boyfriend. The woman became involved in an argument with her spouse while the couple’s children were home and struck her boyfriend before leaving the residence and going to another family member’s house. It was there while upset about the incident police were contacted and attended to investigate.

The woman is charged with domestic assault, released with several conditions and given a future court date. Her boyfriend did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident.

 

February 17 – 20, 2017 Incidents

Perth Street Hit and Run

Brockville Police are seeking the public’s assistance with regards to a hit and run collision which took place Friday afternoon at approximately 2:45 on Perth Street near Central Avenue. Officers were called to that location for a collision involving a Pontiac Montana van being rear ended by a dark grey possibly Chevrolet SUV travelling south bound. Before officers could arrive the suspect vehicle fled the scene south on Perth Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer Cst. Impaired Driving/ Drive with over 80mgs

A 29 year old Smiths Falls man is facing impaired driving and driving while disqualified charges after traffic stop Friday afternoon. At 4:40 pm officers stopped a brown Buick on Victoria Avenue in Brockville for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, they noticed an odour of alcohol from his breath and arrested the driver for impaired driving. They further learned the driver of the vehicle had a lifetime driving prohibition from previous convictions. He was conveyed to Brockville Police headquarters where he provided two samples of his breath which were over double the legal limit of 80 milligrams. In addition to the charges of driving while disqualified, impaired driving and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood, the young man was also serving weekends at the Brockville Jail for an intermittent sentence. He was conveyed to the jail later in the evening.

 

Mischief

Executive Taxi contacted Brockville Police early Friday evening regarding a fare which was causing problems for their drivers. A driver picked up a 20 year old Brockville man at a north end residence to convey him to Wal-Mart. While on route, the driver began to notice the young man behaving strangely in the back seat of the car. When they arrived at Wal-Mart a dispute took place regarding the fare and the young man threw the debit machine out the window of the car and onto the parking lot. He then fled to another taxi who conveyed the young man to the Brockville Police station. Once at the station officers noticed the young man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and they were concerned for his safety. He was conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital where he was treated and eventually released. Arrangements have been made to make restitution to the taxi driver.

 

Mischief at St. Lawrence Park

While on patrol on Saturday evening Brockville Police discovered some anti-police graffiti on the south side of the main office building at St. Lawrence Park. Officers found the wall had been spray painted in black paint with a message Brockville Police officers. The investigation continues.

 

Break and Enter

A 22 year old Brockville area woman is facing Break and Enter charges regarding an incident which occurred early Sunday morning. At approximately 1 pm Sunday afternoon, Brockville Police received a call from a 23 year old man reporting damage from a break and enter to his residence earlier that morning. Officers learned the victim and the young woman had previously been involved in a relationship and had an argument when they ran into to each other while out Saturday evening. When the victim returned home early Sunday morning he noticed the damage, and later called police after learning who was responsible. The woman was released from custody with several conditions and given a future court date.

 

Domestic Disturbance

Monday morning a 51 year old Brockville man surrendered to police at the Brockville Police headquarters in relation to a domestic disturbance reported Sunday afternoon. The victim, a 35 year old Brockville woman had contacted police to report she had been assaulted and threatened by her boyfriend during an argument on Sunday. Officers were able to make contact with the man who agreed to attend the station Monday morning. In addition to the domestic related charges of assault, threatening and mischief, police also executed outstanding warrants for the man. He was held in custody and will appear Monday afternoon in Bail Court.

 

Weekend Summary

During the weekend of Friday February 19th until Monday morning Brockville officers responded to 83 calls for service, made 6 arrests and attended to 5 domestic disturbances.

In addition, officers laid 12 Criminal Code charges stemming from the arrests as well as issued a number of tickets for Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act offences.

February 16 – 17, 2017 Incidents

Fraud

A 32 year old Gatineau man was arrested yesterday after at the Brockville Wal-Mart attempting to make some false returns. Alert staff and security at the Brockville store noticed the returned items were not from their store and contacted police. The man has been charged with 2 counts of Fraud under $5000 and has been released with a March court date.

 

Warrant

Early this morning members of the Brockville Police Services Emergency Response Team working with investigators from Brockville Police Drug Unit and Leeds County OPP executed a search warrant at a Cartier Court apartment. This investigation is still ongoing at this time.
