November 15 – 16, 2016 Incidents

Mental Health

A local 13 year old girl left home after a verbal dispute with her mother then threatened to kill herself before leaving.  Brockville Police attended her school yesterday shortly after 8:30 am., to speak to her about her comments.  Officers then decided to apprehend and escort the teen to local hospital.  She was left in the care of medical staff but police learned she was back at school later in the day.

 

Domestic Dispute

A domestic dispute turned into a mischief for a local couple.

On November 14th, a local 38 year old man attended the apartment of his ex-girlfriend’s and ended up damaging a television as well as putting a hole in the drywall.  The woman attended the Brockville Police station on the 15th to report the incident.

The Kingston Police Service arrested the man in the early evening hours of the 15th on the strength of our information.  Both Services met halfway and Brockville took custody of the accused.  He was arrested and charged with mischief and breaching his probation by failing to remain of good behaviour.

Held in custody, he will appear in bail court.

 

Warrant

Failing to show up for fingerprints adds another charge to your offences.

Yesterday at 9:44 am, a local 28 year old woman turned herself into Brockville Police for failing to maker her print date on November 10th.  After obtaining her prints, she was released on the new charge and issued a future court date.

 

Illegal Bonfire

A local 60 year old woman faces a bylaw fine for her backyard refuse burning.  Brockville Police and Brockville Fire arrived at the south end residence just before 6:00 pm., yesterday after a complaint of a large bonfire.  The resident was burning matresses at the time.  Police left the investigation to the Fire Department for followup and applicable charges.

 

Breach of Release Conditions

Drawing attention to yourself when released on conditions leads to arrest and time spent in a cell.

A local 22 year old man was setting off firecrackers in the south end of the city resulting in complaints to the Brockville Police.  Officers located the man just after 3:30 am, this morning and while speaking to him, noted alcohol on his breath.  He was on conditions from oustanding charges with one of them being no consumption of alcohol.  He was arrested and charged with the breach and held in custody until a bail hearing.

No more calls involving the loud noises were received after his arrest.

November 14, 2016 Incidents

Break and Enter

The Brockville Country Club has fallen victim to a second break and enter.

On November 14th just before 8:00 am, Brockville Police received a complaint from staff that a second building had been hit.  This time, entry was actually gained and a quantity of chemicals removed.  Police believe this crime is related to the attempt theft from their equipment building recently.

There are no suspects at this time but the investigation is ongoing.  Police are awaiting a list of items stolen.

 

Mental Health

Noisey neighbours perhaps not the issue for a local, 51 year old woman.

Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building around 10:30 yesterday morning following a complaint of disruptive neighbours.  While officers listened to the woman give details, it was obvious her mental health was playing a role in her situation.  Police escorted the woman to hospital for appropriate medical care.

 

Mental Health

A local, 27 year old man has been causing problems for staff at a south end group home.

Brockville Police arrived at the home just before 7:00 pm, yesterday after staff reported the man was out of control and threatening people.  Officers have dealt with the male many times in the last few months.  He was apprehended by police and escorted to hospital where mental health staff took over custody of the man for further evaluation.

November 9 – 13, 2016 Incidents

Domestic Assault

A local, 50 year old woman has been charged with assault after punching her boyfriend in the head.  Brockville Police attended the south end residence just before 7:00 pm, on the 9th of November.  The 40 year old victim, recently received stitches to his head from an unrelated incident.  The accused decided she would obtain the best results if she made that area her target.  Officers arrested and charged the woman with assault.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing the following day.

 

Mental Health

Threatening to take his life, a local 20 year old man was escorted to hospital.  Brockville Police received information from a family member who had been communicating with the man over Facebook.  Mental Health workers and another family member helped in getting the subject to the hospital for appropriate care.

 

Drug Warrant

Brockville Police recovered 1.34 pounds of cocaine while executing a warrant on Thursday evening .  Other partners in the joint project included officers from the Gananoque Police and the local OPP.  At 11:00 pm, a south end residence was entered and the drugs recovered.  A local 34 year old man, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.  He was remanded into custody and has a court appearance.

 

Driving Under Suspension

Maybe the 18th time is the charm.  Brockville Police stopped a local, 46 year old man while operating a motor vehicle in the center area of the city.  A check of his driving record showed his licence was actually suspended and he had been convicted of driving under suspension “17” times already.  His vehicle was towed for impounment and the man was charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences.

 

Mental Health

On Friday the 11th, Brockville Police officers apprehended a local 28 year old man concerned about his mental health.  Police had received information from family indicating the man was looking to end his life.  He had left his residence on foot but was located a short time later near the 401.  He was escorted to local hospital for some help.

 

Attempt Break and Enter

Brockville Police responded to an alarm at the Brockville Country Club around 10:00 pm, on Friday evening.  Officers noted someone had attempted to gain entry to an equipment storage building off of Center Street.  Entry was not gained and it is believed the alarm mat have scared the culprit(s) off.

 

Theft From Locker 

Trying to stay in shape became very expensive for a local man.  While attending the YMCA, his wallet was stolen from his locker which contained a large sum of money.  The 18 year old victim was given some advice to prevent future thefts.

If anyone has information about this crime please call us.  These thefts have happened on numerous occassions. Please don’t leave valuables in public lockers at any facility.  Locking these items out of the way in your vehicle or leaving them at home is a much safer alternative.

 

Stunt Driving

A local female was charged with stunt driving after being clocked on radar travelling twice the speed limit.  120 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone resulted in a towing and impoundment of the vehicle.  The 30 year old driver was also issued a future court date to deal with the charge and an immediate suspension of her licence.

 

November 7 – 8, 2016 Incidents

Domestic Dispute

A local man and woman face assault charges after a dispute turned physical.  Brockville Police attended their north end residence on Monday evening around 6:00 pm.  An argument started over internet usage while the couple stood in the kitchen.  The 71 year old woman, struck the male in the face with a cooking utensil.  Reacting to being struck, the 69 year old man, grabbed her around the throat.  Both people had been seperated when officers arrived.  Each one has now been charged with assault on the other.  They are on conditions which include no communication with one another pending a future court date.  Nobody suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.

 

Shoplifting

Stealing items from a north end boxstore has led to a fine for a local woman.

Brockville Police attended shortly before 2:00 pm. Tuesday, to speak to the 26 year old accused.  Due to the low dollar value of the theft, she was issued a fine under the Trespass to Property Act and released at the scene to another family member.

 

Domestic Dispute

Police have arrested and charged a local, 50 year old man with assault and uttering a threat.  Brockville Police attended the north end residence of a local couple on Tuesday, shortly after 8:00 pm, after the female victim called 911.

Officers learned the 50 year old woman and the accused began climbing stairs in the home to take their dispute away from earshot of others in the residence.  She alleged her spouse turned and pushed her down several steps then knelt over her and made threats.  The man left the home in his vehicle, but their daughter’s boyfriend was lying on the hood as the vehicle drove away.  He jumped off at a nearby intersection and returned to the residence.

Police attended the scene later when information indicated the man had returned.  He was located in shrubbery around the residence.  His arrest followed for assault and utter threats. A second assault was revealed by the victim in early September of this year.  In that incident, she claimed she was shoved during another vebal dispute.

Police held the man in custody pending his appearance in bail court.  Neither the victim nor the daughter’s boyfriend suffered injuries beyond minor in nature.

 

Mental Health

A local, 20 year old man was taken to hospital after comments of suicide.  Brockville Police attended his residence in the center area of the city Wednesday, just after midnight, to check on his wellbeing.  The man had made statements to a friend concerning his desire to end his life.  Officers placed the gentleman in the care of hospital staff for appropriate care.

 

 

November 6, 2016 Incidents

Mental Health Act

On November 6, 2016 at 12:11 pm, officers responded to a call of a 25 year old suicidal female. The female was located at her residence in the North end of the city with family members present. The female was apprehended without incident and taken to the Brockville General hospital for assessment.

 

Domestic Assault:

On November 6, 2016 at 12:26 pm, officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance in the Center area of the city. It was learned the 23 year old female had assaulted her 29 year old boyfriend. The scene was at the residence of the male involved which the 23 year old female does not reside at. She is an out of town resident. After the initial assault the female had left the residence giving the male the opportunity to notify the Police. Moments later the female had returned and the dispute continued. The female was arrested and charged with assault and released with an appearance date for court.

New Scam in Area

Brockville Police have received numerous calls today regarding a new scam operating in the area. The potential victim receives an email referencing “Traffic Infringement Notice” and money being owed. This is fraudulent notice and if received please block the sender, mark it as spam and/or delete it. Do not respond or send any money.

Ontario Crime Prevention Week

This year, the week of November 6 to 12, 2016, has been designated Crime Prevention Week in Ontario.

This year’s provincial theme is “Planning Together for Safer Communities”. It promotes a collective responsibility for community safety and well-being planning and emphasizes the importance of a collaborative process that engages a variety of sectors at the local level.

Our campaign theme this year focuses on financial crimes and fraud. Our goal is to raise awareness on the various ways you can be victimized and provide tips on how to prevent yourself and loved ones.  Our campaign theme is “Know Who You’re Dealing With….”

During the week we will be presenting Elder Abuse information to medical professionals to assist them in identifying the signs of elder abuse.

On Tuesday we will be at the 1000 Islands Mall from 1:00-3:00pm with an information booth to educate the public on current scams.

On Wednesday our volunteers will be handing out information pamphlets to businesses to raise awareness of scams targeted to businesses.

 

November 4 – 6, 2016 Incidents

Warrant

On November 4th, 2016 at approximately 8:00 pm, a 34 year old female was arrested by police on her outstanding warrants. She was located in a store in the centre of the city. She was held in custody to appear in court at a later date.

 

Impaired by Drug

On November 5, 2016 at 2:00 am, a 39 year old female was observed asleep behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in the city’s south end. The vehicle was stopped at an intersection with the female asleep with her head on the steering wheel. Officers determined that the driver was under the influence of drugs and was arrested for the offence of driving while impaired by drug. She was released with a future court date.

Officers where kept busy on the weekend with several apprehensions under the mental health act.

November 1 – 4, 2016 Incidents

Mischief

A local youth was arrested after breaking the glass out of a door and threatening staff while at school. Brockville Police attended the local high school in the afternoon of November 1st, after a complaint of the 15 year old male becoming upset and causing some mischief as well as threatening staff.

The youth was diverted on the charges of mischief and threatening staff. He will take part in programs agreed to by police and his parents in lieu of going through the court process.

The charges can still be brought up if the youth fails to meet the obligations set out for him.

 

Domestic Dispute

A local 48 year old man was arrested after a dispute with his spouse. Brockville Police attended the residence around 10:30 pm, on November 1st and noted the man was intoxicated and causing problems in the home. He was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace and released without charges the following morning.

 

Medical Assistance

A local 32 year old man was conveyed to hospital after passing out. Brockville Police attended a central-west street along with ambulance staff after a report of a man passed out in the area. Responses to questions were difficult to obtain but Officers did find a needle on his person. He was conveyed to hospital for appropriate care. Police are unaware of what caused his medical condition.

 

Warrant Executed

A local 18 year old woman was arrested after not showing up for fingerprints.

In July of this year, Brockville Police charged the female with stealing from a local department store. She was released on conditions at that time and given a date in early August to attend for fingerprinting. After failing to attend, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On November 2nd around 11:00 am, she turned herself in to police. The warrant was executed and the charge of failing to attend was laid. A new court date is now pending after she was released from custody.

 

Mental Health

Staff at a local hospital called police after a patient threatened them with a dinner utensil and a cane.

At approximately 1:00 pm, on November 2nd, Brockville Police attended the hospital on Garden Street after a local 77 year old man started waving his cane at staff as well as a butter knife. Officers spoke to the man, then escorted him to the Hospital’s Charles Street location to have his mental health evaluated.

No one was struck or suffered any injuries during the incident.

 

Warrants

A local 48 year old man was arrested on outstanding warrants after an off-duty Special Constable observed the individual leaving a center area department store.

Brockville Police had charged the male in 2015 for theft from a north end box store and breaching his probation. A missed court appearance in October resulted in a warrant for his arrest.

On November 2nd, just after 5:00 pm, the Brockville court officer observed the man leaving a store and contacted police headquarters. The man fled the location of foot but was arrested close after surrendering himself to police when surrounded.

He was held for a bail hearing the next day.

 

Breach of Conditions

A local 52 year old woman was arrested Wednesday after drawing attention to herself which annoyed her neighbours.

Brockville Police attended the south end apartment building around 8:30 pm, after complaints of the woman yelling in her apartment. When officers were speaking to her, it was discovered she had been consuming alcohol. Awaiting court on outstanding charges, she had numerous conditions to abide by which included no alcohol and an onus to keep the peace and behave.

She was arrested and charged with breaching the conditions of her undertaking and released later with a future court date.

 

Fraud

Trying to pass a fraudulent credit card resulted in the arrest of an Ottawa area man on Thursday afternoon. Brockville Police arrested the 32 year old around 3:00 pm, while he was driving away from a north end box store. The male had attended several stores in the city and was successful in obtaining merchandise using a fraudulent credit card. Employees at his last stop felt something wasn’t right and contacted police. It was then discovered the man was in the country on a student visa that had expired. He was wanted by both the Ottawa and Cornwall Police Services for similar crimes. A bail hearing will take place on November 8th.

Aside from the other police services looking to return the man, immigration officials are looking to deport the accused back to Nigeria.

 

Warrants

A local 19 year old man was arrested by Kingston Police on Thursday and returned to Brockville for outstanding warrants.

Early in the evening, officers from Brockville attended Kingston and arrested the man for an incident which took place in early June this year at a downtown convenience store. On that date, at approximately 11:00 pm, Brockville officers observed the man walking away from a group of men after police stopped to talk to them. It was discovered he was on conditions of a recognizance from two different sets of charges. Both release papers included a curfew, one starting at 9 pm, and the other at 10 pm. Officers tried to locate the man at the time but had no luck.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Investigation – Superstore, October 30, 2016

We are currently investigating an incident which occurred at the Superstore between 730-830 pm on Saturday October 29th in the cosmetic section where two teenage girls were followed by an unidentified adult male in and around this area as they shopped. The girls then located the store manager and reported the incident who in turn reported it to the police the following day Sunday October 30th.

The male in the photo is a person of interest who we would like to speak to about the occurrence, who was in the Superstore around the time of the occurrence.
