October 28 – 29, 2016 Incidents

Drug Charges

A 22 year old male was detained after the motor vehicle he was driving was stopped during a R.I.D.E. check . An odour of marijuana was coming from the car. During the drug investigation the same male was discovered to be on probation for previous criminal conviction. He was subsequently charged with breaching that probation and being in possession of a controlled substance. He was released with a future court date.

 

Intoxication

Police were called to a scene after friends of a 31 year old female who was heavily under the influence of alcohol began to speak about being possessed by demons and was acting irrational.   She then resisted arrest when she was taken into custody due to her inability to care for herself. She was released from cells when sober.

 

Ladies Night Part 1:

A 44 year old female was arrested in the eveing after she was involved in a disturbance that broke out in a bar on King St East. The same female was already observed by officers earlier in the evening at a separate event and believed to have had a significant amount of alcohol consumed. She was held until a sober family member could attend to take care of her.

Ladies Night Part 2:

A 44 year old female was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace at a bar on King St west. She was causing problems with others and attempting to instigate a fight with a male who was in an altercation with her son. She had been consuming but was not intoxicated. It was believed that if was left a further altercation would start. She was arrested and held until after the bars closed and she had calmed down.

“I wasn’t driving”:

While on patrol an officer observed a motor vehicle driving with its interior lights on at night. The officer then observed the vehicle make an unsafe lane change and he stopped it for traffic violations. The officer then observed the driver and passenger switch positions in the car to try and throw the investigation off course. The officer played along but as fate would have it, neither one possessed a drivers licence which neither men knew! The odour of marijuana was coming from the car which made things worse for the pair. Both men were arrested for obstruct police, drug possession and one of the two was on a term of probation for a serious crimeand received a charge of breaching those conditions. Further charges were also issued under the traffic act such as driving with no licence, no insurance and the car was impounded. One male was released on a recognizance while the male on probation was held for a bail hearing. Bail is scheduled for Monday at Brockville Court.

October 28 – 29, 2016 Incidents

Grocery Thief

A lone male attempted to steal approximately $350 worth of groceries from the Metro located on King Street in Brockville on the 28th of October.  Once the suspect was confronted by staff he abandoned his cart loaded with his ill gotten gains and fled. Described as being in his late 40’s wearing a yellow ball hat, blue coat and blonde hair.

 

Impaired Driver

A 29 year old local man was stopped operating a motor vehicle after police received a complaint that the driver was possibly impaired. Once stopped there was an odour of alcohol coming from the male. A demand for a sample of breath was made by officers into an approved screening device. However, the driver declined to provide a suitable sample. He was arrested for refusing to provide a breath sample as demanded and released with a future court date. The penalty for refusing a breath sample carries the same penalty as an impaired driving conviction. The drivers vehicle was also impounded in accordance with provincial regulations. The vehicle was not his own.

October 27, 2016 Incidents

Breach of Conditions

A 27 year old local male was once again arrested for various violations of his current release conditions in Brockville on the 27th of October. His case worker who supervises his activities in the community reported ongoing breaches of his current undertaking and probation order. There has also been a number of recent complaints involving this male approaching people and businesses in an attempt to obtain money or assistance. He was arrested and charged with breaching his undertaking and additionally his probation order and held for bail hearing for the 28th of October.

 

Theft From Vehicle

A Liston Avenue resident reported that on the 27th of October at approximately 7 a.m. he had observed two teenagers running from the area of his truck. He later discovered that his lunch box was missing which also contained some prescription medicine and a small amount of cash. The Brockville Police Service asks that if anyone who lives in the area of the crime and witnessed anything that may be related to this event to please call at 613 342 0127 as any additional information would be appreciated.

 

Arrest Warrant

A local 52 year old male that had been arrested on previous domestic violence charges and had been released on conditions was once again arrested after an allegation of breaching those conditions had been made to police. As a result of the new allegation a warrant was issued for his arrest. He attended to the Brockville Police Service to turn himself in on the 27th of October and was held for a bail hearing.

 

October 26, 2016 Incidents

Domestic Disturbance

Police attended to a south end residence in response to a domestic disturbance. As a result of their investigation a 30 year old male was arrested and charged with assault, sexual assault, and uttering threats. He is currently being held for a bail hearing.

 

Breach of Conditions and Drug Offences

A 34 year old female was arrested after she was located in a south end apartment building. She was on conditions not to be at that residence. As a result she was charged with breaching her previous release conditions as well as possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances act. She is being held for a bail hearing.

 

Public Intoxication

A 30 year old male subject was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place after police received a complaint last evening in a downtown location. He was later released from custody when he was sober.

October 25, 2016 Incidents

Counterfeit Money

A 32 male subject was identified as the suspect paying with $100 (photocopied) bills at 2 local businesses. The same male attempted to use counterfeit money at a 3rd location in town however store clerk refused to accept it and called police. The male subject was arrested and charged. Any other business that have received any suspected counterfeit money are asked to call police

Failure to Attend

A 20 year old male subject was arrested on a warrant for failing to attend for identification prints. He was released with a future court date

Licence Suspension

While speaking to the driver of a motor vehicle in a downtown location, police observed that he had been consuming alcohol and was on conditions to only operate a vehicle with an ignition Interlock device as a result of previous conviction of impaired driving.

The driver was charged with failing to provide a breath sample and was issued a future court date along with a licence suspension. His vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days

October 24, 2016 Incidents

Shoplifting

On the 24th of October at 5:00pm Brockville Police attended a North End Store regarding a shoplifter. A local 56 year old loaded a cart with approximately $750 worth of goods and exited the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. Store security arrested the subject and turned over to police. She was released with a future court date and fingerprint date.

It is unknown whether the 2 suspects knew each other due to the same time of the occurrences.

October 23, 2016 Incidents

Assault

On October 23rd, Brockville Police attended to a south end residence for a domestic related disturbance. As a result of speaking with all parties, a 37 year old male was arrested for assault and utter threats. The male was held for a bail hearing on October 24th.

 

 

October 22, 2016 Incidents

Assault

On the 22nd of October, 2016 a 27 year old male was arrested and charged with breaching conditions of his probation order. Staff at a local residential facility contacted police after the client’s behavior became increasingly aggressive and intimidating in nature. The male subject was eventually released from custody with a future court date.

 

Assault / Weapons

A 33 year old male was apprehended under the mental health act following an altercation with family members. The subject had challenged his brother while allegedly in possession of a knife and fled the area. Police located the male and in considering all factors, he was transported to the Brockville General Hospital where he was admitted for necessary observation and evaluation in regards to his mental health. Criminal charges concerning the knife are anticipated as the investigation is continues. There were no injuries reported in relation to this incident.

October 21, 2016 Incidents

Theft from vehicle

On the 21st of October, 2016 Brockville Police received a complaint of a theft from an unlocked vehicle.   Sometime during the night unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle in the south end of town and stole a cellular telephone and loose change.

The Brockville Police Service urges people to lock their vehicles. These are often crimes of opportunity with vehicles left unlocked and valuables in plain sight.

 

Medical Assist

On the 21st of October, 2016 at approximately 22:14 hours members of the Brockville Police Service attended to a local south end Taxi stand for reports of an elderly female that had suffered a seizure.

While on scene the female experienced additional seizures. EMS was contacted and subsequently attended. The female was transported to the Brockville General Hospital for necessary examination.

October 19 – 20, 2016 Incidents

Domestic Assault

On October 19th at 2:21 pm, Brockville Police spoke with a local 79 year old woman after she attended the Service looking for advice.  She was having difficulties with her 82 year old husband and his mental health.  Officers learned she had actually been the victim of domestic violence and was still carrying some bruising as a result.  After speaking with her at length, Officers located the accused and placed him under arrest for assault.  He was released soon after into the care of another family member.  Conditions were placed on the man until his court date in November.

 

Mental Health

On October 20th at 3:04 pm, Brockville Police attended a north end street after witnesses described a man walking in traffic.

When Officers located the local 48 year old, he was making strange comments and was not dressed for the weather.  Police then learned he was a resident of a city mental health home.  Apprehended for his own safety, he was then placed in the custody of hospital staff for appropriate care.

 

Utter Threats

On October 20th at 3:29 pm, a local 33 year old woman reported threats made towards her by her ex-spouse.

Police learned the evening prior, the man was on the phone with their young daughter and became upset when the victim would not speak with him as well.  He then threatened to kill the woman via the conversation with the daughter.  Officers contacted the local 32 year old and requested he attend the Police station.  Shortly after 6:00 pm the man arrived, was arrested and charged with uttering a threat and placed in custody.

A bail court appearance will take place.

 

Break and Enter

On October 21st at 1:27 am, Brockville Police attended a south end residence in regards to a break and enter.

The residents heard a noise and attended an entry door on the south side of the home.  Nothing was noted to be missing but water on the floor showed someone had made it into the residence.  The victims indicated the door was not locked at the time of the offence.

A search of the area was negative for suspects.  The investigation is continuing.

 

Mental Health

On October 21st at 3:15 am, a local 71 year old woman, attended the Police station to report a group of males broke into her apartment and threatened her with a hammer.  Officers attended her residence with the female and all appeared in order.  It became obvious she was struggling with mental health issues.  She was escorted to hospital and left with medical staff for needed help.

 

Operation Door Knock

On October 20th, during the early evening hours, Brockville Police attended several homes in the city to ensure compliance with bail conditions.

Operation Door Knock places curfews and house arrest conditions on certain individuals charged with criminal offences.  Two different males were found to be breaching their conditions.  In both cases, the parties did not reside at the address given to the courts.  These investigations are ongoing and charges are likely to follow.
