Theft

On May 9th at 9:37 am, Brockville Police received information that the Ottawa Police had arrested a man wanted for theft in Brockville.

Officers attended their city and returned the 45 year old, Lanark area resident. He was held in custody and taken to bail court. The accused was remanded into custody until later this week.

 

Public Mischief

On May 9th at 2:01 pm., Brockville Police attended the pay phone area at the Sears entrance of the 1000 Islands Mall.

Since April 18th, Police had received nine (9) phone calls involving a female talking about harming animals with guns and knives. Each time there was no one in the area when Officers arrived. She had been captured on video however. On May 9th, Police observed the female in the area and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers caught up to her and she was arrested and charged with Public Mischief. A check of her background showed a history of similar type behaviour in cities west of Brockville.

The 40 year old, originally from the Hamilton area, was held in custody and will appear in bail court later today.

 

Breaching of Conditions

On May 9th at 3:31 pm., Brockville Police had taken a local, 23 year old male, to bail court to deal with weapons charges and breaches of release conditions.

The male was released from bail court on conditions by a Justice of the Peace.

Within an hour of his release, the man was observed by Officers attending the beer store in the center of town. One of his new conditions was to abstain from purchasing, possessing or consuming alcohol. His freedom did not last long. The man was arrested for breaching his one hour old conditions and taken back into custody. he will appear in bail court again this afternoon.

 

Breach of Conditions

On May 9th at 10:36 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building to check on a man’s wellbeing. A friend had contacted Police as he was out of town and had reason to believe the man might harm himself.

Officers located the local, 21 year old, and noted he was intoxicated. He was on release conditions that included no alcohol. Officers took the young man to hospital for assistance. The breach of his release conditions was handled by way of a document giving him a future court date.

 

 

May 6 – 9, 2016 Incidents

Suspicious Male

On May 6th at 12:36 pm, Brockville Police received information regarding a suspicious man in the area of Westminster School.

The man was described as being 5’8″ in height and wearing a neon yellow hat.  He likes to stare through the fence into the school yard.

Police are asking the community to contact them in the event the male returns.

 

Public Intoxication

On May 6th at 8:33 pm, Brockville Police received a complaint of a man passed out on the sidewalk of a south end street.

Officers arrested a local, 55 year old, for his own safety. He was released the next morning when sober and issued a fine for public intoxication.

On May 7th at 12:09 am, Brockville Police received a complaint of a young man passed out on a south end bike path.

The local, 21 year old, was arrested for public intoxication. He was released later in the day with a fine.

 

Impaired Driving

On May 7th at 1:04 am, Brockville Police stopped a vehicle on a north end street for having no headlights operating.

The driver, a local, 51 year old female, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle over the legal limit. She was released with a future court date, her vehicle towed and her licence suspended.

On May 7th at 2:50 am, Brockville Police stopped a motor vehicle on a south end street after noticing no headlights operating.

The driver, a local, 35 year old female, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving a motor vehicle over the legal limit. She was released with a future court date after her vehicle was impounded and her licence suspended.

 

Assault

On May 7th at 8:16 pm, Brockville Police attended an assault complaint on King Street West.

A local, 55 year old man, was engaged in a conversation with another man and asked about monies owed to him. The local, 38 year old, struck the male and knocked him to the ground. The victim suffered a cut to his head and scraped up hands but required no medical attention.

Police know the identity of the accused but he left the area prior to their arrival. When located, he will be arrested and charged with assault and breaching conditions of his probation.

 

Weapons Offence

On May 8th at 1:34 am, Brockville Police received a complaint from a local male in which he indicated being shot by an air gun while standing outside a downtown bar.

He pointed out a window of a nearby apartment as the direction of the shots and described a male party as the responsible person. Investigation led to the arrest of a local, 17 year old youth. Apparently the youth had felt bullied by the 39 year old, male victim.

The young man was charged with discharging an air pistol with intent to wound. He was released on conditions with a future court date. The victim did not require medical attention. Police have confiscated the air pistol.

 

Mischief

On May 8th at 10:29 am, Brockville Police took a mischief complaint at a south end residence.

Sometime overnight, a screen was damaged in the residence when a projectile from an air pistol travelled through it. Police are checking to see if the earlier incident is connected to this one.

 

Family Dispute

On May 8th at 11:20 am, Brockville Police attended a family dispute at a south end residence.

A verbal dispute turned physical when a local, 15 year old girl slapped her mother in the face. The youth was arrested and charged with assault. She was released with a future court date when things settled down. Mom’s injuries were minor in nature.

 

Unwanted Person

On May 8th at 1:50 pm., Brockville Police took a complaint of unwanted contact.

A local, 29 year old man, had been making repeated texts and messages to his ex-girlfriend. Despite warnings from her to stop, he continued so she contacted Police. The man is already on conditions of a recognizance and the contact was in breach of those conditions. Police have yet to locate the accused.

 

Suspicious Male

On May 8th at 3:29 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint of a man exposing himself in the area of the Brockville General Hospital.

He was described as wearing a toque, reading glasses, dark green pants and a black sweater. Witnesses indicated he was “older”.

The male was gone on Police arrival and video footage did not reveal his identity. The incident is still under investigation.

 

Bear Complaint

On May 9th at approximately 7:45 am, Brockville Police received a call about a young bear in the back yard of a residence on King Street East.

Police contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources who sent four of their employees and a tranquilizer gun to the area. The bear was hit with the dart from the gun but solid contact was not established. The animal was followed north from the area until visual contact was lost in the wooded area at the north end of Oxford Avenue. Schools in the area have been advised of the event and Ministry people are remaining in the area for the afternoon, in the event of further sightings.

 

Officer Suspension

In maintaining our commitment of transparency and public trust, the Brockville Police would like to acknowledge that an officer has been suspended from duty as per section 89(1) of the Police Services Act.  The suspension results from an ongoing investigation initiated as a Chief’s complaint.  As the matter is currently under investigation we are unable to provide any further details at this time.   Questions can be directed to Chief Fraser.

 

April 28, 2016 Incidents

Mischief

Over the past few days there have been several mischiefs in the City. The south end of the city has been the targeted area – vehicles and household property.

Please be aware of suspicious persons in the area and report to police.

 

Threats

A male party was arrested as a result of a threat to cause bodily harm to another male.   As a result of the arrest a weapon was found in the males vehicle.

The male later released with a future court date.

Fail to Remain Motor Vehicle Collision

The Brockville Police Service is currently investigating a Fail to Remain Motor Vehicle Collision and we are asking for public assistance.

At 10:15 in the evening on the 24th of April 2016 in the City of Brockville a single motor vehicle was involved in an accident.  This occurred at the intersection of Pearl Street West and Perth Street.

The suspect vehicle was west bound on Pearl Street and attempted to make a left turn to travel south on Perth Street and for reasons unknown struck a street light pole.  The driver and vehicle then fled the scene.  Debris was located at the collision site that suggests we are looking for a white Chrysler product and it would have sustained damage to the right front fender area of it.

April 18, 2016 Incidents

Phone Calls

On April 18th at 11:56 am., Brockville Police received two calls close together reporting fake calls for service.

In the first call, a female voice indicates she has a weapon and is going to harm people. In the second call she threatens to shoot animals.  The phone calls were made from a public payphone in the north end of the city.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Fraud

On April 18th at 8:13 pm., Brockville Police received a call of a potential fraud at a north end gas station.

A thin, black male, tried to purchase gift cards using a credit card linked to his cell phone. He was not successful at that location.  Police are aware he tried different locations in the north end but do not believe he obtained any gift cards.  He was observed driving a black nissan with Quebec plate number FKE9791.

The investigation is ongoing and Police are awaiting photos of the suspect.

 

April 15 – 17, 2016 Incidents

Neighbour Dispute

On April 15th at 5:10 pm., Brockville Police responded to a neighbour dispute on a south end street.

A local, 31 year old male, was visiting the residence and got into a verbal dispute with a neighbour over his dog. Officers noted the man was intoxicated and believed the dispute would continue in their absence.   He was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace. When sober, the man was released without charges.

 

Traffic and Drug Offences

On April 16th at 12:32 am, Brockville Police stopped a vehicle on south end street for a traffic violation.

The local 18 year old male driver had consumed alcohol and provided a breath sample into a roadside device. The sample registered a “warn” and his licence was suspended for 72 hours. However, Officers also found a quantity of marijuana in the vehicle.

The young man was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released at the scene with a future court date.

 

Domestic Dispute

On April 16th at 5:44 pm., Brockville Police responded to a domestic at a south end residence.

The involved parties had left the residence before Officers arrived but returned while Police were still there. A local 35 year old male was operating the vehicle that returned and Police noted he had been consuming alcohol. He provided a sample of his breath on a roadside unit which registered a “fail” and was arrested for driving over the legal limit.

Back at the station, he provided two samples of his breath which registered over the legal amount. He was released when sober and charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded.

A future court date was issued with his release documents.

 

Home Invasion

On April 16th at 10:16 pm., Brockville Police responded to a home invasion in the center of the city.

A local 41 year old male was assaulted after another man forced his way into his residence and struck him several times in the face. The male fled the scene. His description was given as about six feet tall with a brush cut and possibly a red beard. He was wearing a Budweiser jacket. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not receive medical attention.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Grass Fire

On April 17th at 4:23 pm., Brockville Police attended the Hubbell Street area for a grass fire.

The fire was extinguished by Officers and the Brockville Fire Department. Young children were observed in the area prior to the call.

 

Theft

On April 17th at 7:13 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

Officers continued the arrest of a 51 year old female and a 49 year old male. Both parties, from the Toronto area, were released on conditions with a future court date.

April 10 -11, 2016 Incidents

Robbery

On April 10th at 5:12 pm., Brockville Police received a robbery complaint from a local, 25 year old male.

The man was taken from a south end residence at knife point and driven to an abandoned house east of the city. Two men and a woman were present in the vehicle during the incident.

When at their destination, the victim was struck numerous times with an unknown weapon. It appeared to be some time of wooden handle. During the drive out of town, a knife was held to the victim’s throat at some point. After the assault, the victim was driven back to the city and flagged down a passing Police Officer.

The Officer remembered seeing the suspect vehicle in the area and a search began. Officers located the vehicle behind a south end apartment building with both males inside the car.

Both local men, aged 26 years, were arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering death threats. One of the males was also breaching conditions of a probation order. They were taken to bail court on April 11th and remanded into custody until the 14th. The female was released without charges.

The victim did not receive medical treatment for his injuries which were non-life threatening. The entire incident centered around an outstanding drug debt.

 

Community Service

On April 11th at 11:12 am, Brockville Police received a call from one of our schools concerned about the health of one of their students.

A local, 17 year old male, indicated a desire to harm himself and left the school in a vehicle. Using triangulation techniques on his cell phone, Police were able to narrow down his location in the Athens area. A request was made of the OPP to attend the area and the youth was located. He was fine physically and was taken to hospital for appropriate treatment regarding his mental health.

 

Theft

On April 11th at 12:22 pm, Brockville Police took a theft complaint at a south end apartment building.

The victim reported items missing from his apartment including a cell phone, coat and other personal items. The suspect in the theft is known to Police and the investigation continues while Officers seek her whereabouts.

 

Missing Youth

On April 11th at 4:56 pm, 15 year old, Kelsey Varacalli, ran away from her Grandmother’s residence in the south end of the city.

She is now considered a missing person and Police are following information trails in attempts to locate her.

 

Community Service

On April 11th at 5:18 pm, Brockville Police attended an apartment building in the center of town to deal with a struggling 67 year old man. The male was depressed over recent health issues concerning his spouse.

He was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of the building holding a knife to his abdomen and threatening to harm himself. Earlier, he threatened to kill his 19 year old granddaughter. He held a knife in front of her when making the threat. The man was wearing his seatbelt at the time and seated in the passenger side. Officers were concerned the man would exit the vehicle with the knife or carry through with his intent.

Officers deployed a taser which caused the knife to drop from his hand. He was then removed and handcuffed. Police then took the man to hospital for mental health reasons. He now faces charges of utter threats, assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous.

 

Community Service

On April 11th at 6:57 pm, Brockville Police received a request to check on the mental wellbeing of a local 21 year old man. The subject had made comments about hurting himself and had left Brockville heading to the Mallorytown area.

Brockville Police asked OPP Officers to check a residence in that area. They located the man who indicated he was not serious about his comments. Because there were no concerns for his safety after the conversation, Officers allowed the man to remain at friends for the evening.
