Phone Scam

Brockville Police are noticing an increase in a particular type of phone scam.

Callers are identifying themselves as members of Canada Revenue and threatening jail if taxes are not paid.

Police encourage people not to provide any information to these callers and if they have any questions, call Revenue Canada and report the incident along with local Police agencies.

 

January 13, 2016 Incidents

Breach of Conditions

On January 13th at 2:10 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building for a breach of conditions complaint.

Police discovered a local, 19 year old male, was in contact with a female he could not communicate with.  The male faces outstanding charges before the court and had certain individuals he was not able to communicate with. Police received information that communication was taking place with one of the named persons.  The young man was arrested and charged with breaching his recognizance.  He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Warrant

On January 13th at 9:40 pm., Brockville Police attended a residence in the south end of the city for a complaint involving a group of youths causing a problem.

While at the residence obtaining information, Police spoke to a local, 22 year old male, and discovered he was wanted by a local OPP detachment on a warrant.  The male was arrested on the warrant and Officers from the OPP attended and took custody of the man.

 

January 11, 2016 Incidents

Warrant

On January 11th at 11:59 am., Brockville Police arrested a local, 33 year old male, outside of the courthouse building.

Officers were aware there was a warrant in place for the man out of Kingston.  Later in the day, members of the Kingston Police attended and returned the subject to their jurisdiction.

 

Drug Offence

On January 11th at 5:39 pm., Brockville Police stopped a vehicle in the center of town for a traffic infraction.

The driver, a local, 33 year old female, was found to be in possession of several different types of drugs.  She was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and taken into custody. Her vehicle was towed as a result of the traffic charges.  The accused party was released later on conditions with a future court date.

 

Well Being Check

On January 11th at 6:07 pm., Brockville Police attended a residence in the center of the city to check on the wellbeing of a male subject.

The local, 28 year old, was having mental health issues and had caused damage within the residence.  He was apprehended under the mental health act and taken to hospital for appropriate care.

 

January 8 – 10, 2016 Incidents

Traffic Stop

On January 8th at 9:02 am., Brockville Police stopped a local , 45 year old male, for a traffic infraction on a south end street.

The man tried to identify himself as someone else due to the fact that his drivers licence was suspended.  Police warned the man for the criminal offence of personation. He was released at the scene and given a traffic court date.

 

Unwanted Person

On January 9th at 12:14 am., Brockville Police attended the Brockville General Hospital in regards to an unwanted person.

A local, 21 year old male, had received stitches to close a wound on his forehead.  After treatment, the intoxicated male began causing problems for staff members.  The man was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace.  He was released later the same day when sober.

 

Fraud

On January 9th at 1:20 pm., Brockville Police attended the center area of the city for a fraud complaint.

A local, 39 year old male, took a taxi to a residence and returned to the vehcile several minutes later but was now refusing to pay the fare.  Police arrested and charged the man with fare fraud, locating him walking close by.  He was released with a future court date.

 

Robbery

On January 10th at 12:27 am., Brockville Police attended an armed robbery at the Petro Canada situated at 325 Stewart Blvd.

A lone, white male, armed with a knife, approached the cashier and demanded money.  The male left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. The cashier was not injured in the incident.  The male has not been located at this point and the investigation is ongoing.

January 4 – 7, 2016 Incidents

Breach of Probation

On January 4th at 2:50 pm., Brockville Police took a complaint of a local man breaching his probation.

The 44 year old was placed on conditions regarding his ex-wife with one of them being to keep his distance from her place of employment.  On the 4th, he was observed in the parking lot where she works without cause.  Police arrested and charged the male with breaching his probation. He was released on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Accident

On January 4th at 3:31 pm., Brockville Police attended a three car accident on Parkedale Ave. near Millwood Ave.

Ambulance attended the scene and treated two of the drivers for minor injuries.  A local, 48 year old man was charged with careless driving and issued a fine as a result.

 

Warrant

On January 5th at 10:47 am., Brockville Police took custody of a 24 year old, local male, who had been arrested by the Smiths Falls Police Service.

The young man failed to show up for his weekend sentence at the Brockville Jail on the 8th of May, 2015. A warrant had been in place for his arrest since mid May.  He was arrested and charged with being unlawfully at large and taken for a bail hearing later in the day.

 

Unwanted Passenger

On January 5th at 4:15 pm., Brockville Police attended the train station on Perth Street for an unwanted passenger.

A 26 year old male, with no fixed address was exposing his buttocks to people on the train.  Police arrested the man for indecent exposure and charged him under the Trespass to Property Act. He was released with a fine.  The city of Barrie had a probation order in effect for the male for similar incidents in their area.  Police have contacted their probation services to advise of the complaint. The male could still face a probation charge from their area.  Although the male had no permanent address, it is believed he resides in the Barrie area.

 

Domestic Dispute

On January 6th at 1:54 am., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a south end residence.

A local, 47 year old male, was intoxicated and arguing with his wife. Police felt that leaving the male in the residence was not an appropriate option.  The man was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace and released later in the day when sober.

 

Well Being Check

On January 6th at 8:00 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building building to check on a male in distress.

Police dealt with a local, 27 year old, who expressed a desire to harm himself. The man had a minor self inflicted cut to one of his arms.  He was taken to hospital by Police to obtain the needed medical care.

 

Warrant

On January 23rd, 2015, a warrant was issued for a 33 year old, male party, who failed to attend court in Brockville.  On January 7th, 2016, the man was arrested by the Belleville Police Service on the strength of the warrant.  Brockville Police Officers attended Belleville in the early morning hours of the 7th and returned him to Brockville.  The subject will appear in bail court.

December 31, 2015 – January 3, 2016 Incidents

Compliance Checks

On December 31st, starting around 9:00 pm., Brockville Police Officers completed compliance checks within the city.

The checks consist of attending the homes or apartments of people on bail conditions placed on them by the courts.  Operation “Door Knock”, requires those individuals to attend their front door and present themselves to Police. Conditions surround curfews and ensuring adresses given are correct and up to date.  No violations were noted on this date.

 

Disturb the Peace

On January 1st at 1:48 am., Brockville Police attended a bar on King Street for a fight in progress.

Police arrested two males, a 27 year old, from the Kingston area and a local 36 year old.  Both males received fines for fighting under the city by-law. They were released shortly afterwards and sent on their way.  A fighting charge under the by-law carries a $300.00 fine.

 

Domestic Dispute

On January 1st at 7:25 am., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the center of the city.

A local couple, both 23 years of age, became involved in a verbal dispute. The male became so upset, he began causing damage to different items in the residence. The female then called 911.  The man was arrested and charged with mischief. While in Police cells at the station, the subject punched a wall and was taken to hospital for treatment to his hand.  Eventually, the accused was remanded into custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Breach of Probation

On January 2nd at 11:04 am., Brockville Police attended a south end block of the city to check on a male party.

Police located a local, 28 year old man, known to officers.  The subject had been drinking and was yelling and screaming while walking in the area. He was currently on a probation order which included a condition that he not consume alcohol.  There was also release conditions in place for outstanding charges still before the courts. One of those conditions required him to keep the peace and keep good behaviour. Police arrested and charged the subject with breaching his probation and breaching his release conditions.  When sober, he was released with a future court date.

 

Well Being Check

On January 3rd at 1:43 am., Brockville Police attended an apartment building on King Street West to check on a male party.

A family member informed Police that the local, 20 year old, was talking about harming himself.  Police located and spoke with the man, then decided to take him to hospital for appropriate treatment. The subject was left in their care.

 

Assault

On January 3rd at 10:50 am., Brockville Police attended a north end apartment building for an assault complaint.

A local, 29 year old man, told Police he was assaulted while attending a medical appointment at a facility in the south end of town.   Police are now looking to arrest a local, 31 year old male, for assault and uttering threats. The victim did not suffer any injuries and the two parties know each other.  The investigation will continue when the wanted male is located.

 

December 30 – 31, 2015 Incidents

Liquor Offence

On December 30th at 11:33 am., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building to check on a female who called 911 but hung up before information could be obtained.

Police located a 52 year old female, extremely intoxicated and incoherent. An ambulance was called to check on her well being.  While at the hospital, the woman started presenting problems for staff by swearing and being disruptive. Police were asked to re-attend and remove her from the premises.  She was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace. When sober, she was released unconditionally.

 

Shoplifting

On December 30th at 5:05 pm., Brockville Police attended Walmart for a theft complaint.

Two males grabbed two televisions from the store and ran out an emergency exit door to a waiting vehicle.  The vehicle was described as a small white four door and was last seen travelling west on Parkedale Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing and Police are asking any witnesses to contact Cst. Dan Hall @ 342-0127.

 

Bail Violation

On December 30th at 7:30 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end apartment building to investigate a violation of bail conditions.

A local, 17 year old male, was not following his release conditions and a family member who had signed on his behalf reported the incident. Police also held a warrant for the youth for failing to attend court.

Police arrested and charged the young male and he was held for a bail hearing today.

 

Assault

On December 31st at 3:49 am., Brockville Police attended a south end residence for an assault complaint.

A local, 55 year old male, reported his girlfriend attended his residence in an intoxicated state.  The local, 59 year old female, proceeded to throw items around the residence and assaulted the male. He did not receive any injuries as a result.  Police arrested and charged the woman with assault and took her into custody.

She was released when sober on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Drug Seizure

On December 29th in the early evening hours, Brockville Police members involving, Intelligence, Uniform and Criminal Investigations, executed an important arrest in the center of the city.

A local, 32 year old male, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking.  Police confiscated a large quantity of cocaine and marijuana. The value of the drugs is in excess of $30,000.  Working on intelligence information, the accused was arrested after stepping off a train at the VIA rail station on Perth Street.

 

December 25 – 29, 2015 Incidents

Public Intoxication

On December 25th at 5:08 pm., Brockville Police responded to the King Street East area as a citizen was concerned about an intoxicated male trying to navigate the sidewalk.

Police spoke to a local, 46 year old, who was known to them. The male was arrested for his own safety and taken into custody.  He was released with a fine when sober.

 

Unlawfully at Large

On December 25th at 9:44 pm., Brockville Police were contacted by the Brockville Jail in regards to a male subject who failed to show for his weekend sentence.

The local, 50 year old, is now wanted for being unlawfully at large and a warrant is being sought for his arrest.

 

Assault

On December 26th at 8:06 pm., Brockville Police attended an assault complaint in the south end of the city.

A dispute started between a local, 41 year old female and another 42 year old female.  The two woman were involved in a child custody swap involving the holidays and the tardiness of one of the parties.  The younger woman struck her ex-husband’s female partner through an open car window and pulled her hair as well. The victim sustained minor injuries not requiring medical attention.  The local, 42 year old, was arrested and charged with assault.  She was released later on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Family Dispute

On December 27th at 8:41 pm., Brockville Police attended a family dispute at a south end residence.

A local, 47 year old female, was arguing with different family members and they were concerned the dispute could become physical.  Police arrested the female to prevent a further breach of the peace. She was released later when it appeared cooler heads would prevail.  Alcohol was a factor in the disagreement.

 

Traffic Stop

On December 28th at 10:23 p.m., Brockville Police stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction on a north end street.

The driver, a local, 27 year old male, did not possess a drivers licence. He had also consumed alcohol but passed a roadside sobriety test.  The male was under release conditions for outstanding charges. One of the conditions involved no consumption of any alcohol and to be of good behavior.  He was arrested and charged with breaching his release documents and held in custody for bail court.

 

Traffic Stop

On December 28th at 11:18 pm., Brockville Police attempted to stop a motor vehicle operating without headlights on a north end street.

The vehicle would not pull over and eventually travelled into the center of town where the occupants bailed out and fled on foot.  Officers took chase and located two males shortly afterwards. They were released after being spoken to.  A local, 21 year old female was located and it was discovered she was wanted on a warrant out of the Kingston area. Kingston Police attended and took custody of her.  The driver was the only subject not located at the time. Police did recognize him however. The local, 21 year old, has a warrant for his arrest out of Gananoque.  As a result of this incident, he faces charges of failing to stop for Police and breaching his probation order.  A warrant will be sought for his arrest.

 

Theft from Vehicles

On December 29th at 4:27 am., Brockville Police attended a south end street to look for two males who were going through vehicles.

With the aid of the weather, Police tracked the two males to a south end apartment complex.  Both local males, 25 years of age, were charged with theft from the vehicles and one of the males was charged with breaching conditions of his probation order.  They now face a future court date and must abide by certain conditions.

December 23, 2015 Incidents

Public Intoxication

On December 23rd at 12:52 pm., Brockville Police attended a residence in the south end of the city to deal with an intoxicated male.

Police were contacted by a home owner to remove a male from her front porch that had arrived by taxi.  The local, 47 year old, had injuries to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment. After treatment he was arrested for public intoxication.

The male was released later in the day when sober with a fine.

 

Domestic Dispute

On December 23rd at 11:47 pm., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a south end apartment complex.

A 55 year old male was involved in a verbal dispute with his 52 year old female partner.  The male had been drinking which was a breach of conditions associated with his probation order.

Police issued a contact report to his probation officer and the parties had settled down prior to officers leaving the scene.
