Passing of K9 Trax

It is with sadness that we advise of the passing of our former Police Dog, Trax. We have placed our flags at half mast on his behalf.

Trax was our previous canine and worked with Sgt. Shawn Borgford. He will be sadly missed by Shawn and his family. Police dogs become more than a partner, they become integrated into the handler’s family.

Trax now joins “Brock” and “Septor” in our K9 Hall of Honour.

Thanks for your years of service to Brockville Trax!!

Trax was proven and remained effective in all areas including tracking, drug detection, evidence recovery, handler protection and suspect apprehension.

Trax and Sgt. Borgford enjoyed a strong relationship with the community. Countless public demonstrations assisted with public awareness, student education and the necessary development of positive and trusting relationships with members of the community.

Trax spent 9 years patrolling the community, he was 13 years of age at his passing.

‘Operation Impact’

October 9th – 12th will mark Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

This special weekend is a Police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority. The focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive and distracted driving. All enforcement agencies across the country have been invited to participate.

“The deaths, injuries and personal losses that result from carelessness behind the wheel can be prevented”, says Staff Sgt. Todd Bertrend of the Brockville Police Service.

Police agencies across the country are collaborating on this project because they have seen more than enough of that, and because they know that the involvement of the driving public is essential to achieve safer streets and highways.

This initiative has been strategically chosen, as it is a significant long weekend. More people are travelling and traffic crashes are more frequent.

Here in Brockville, there have been a number of serious injuries over the last few years related to vehicle collisions. These are just stats but they represent moms, dads, sisters, brothers, loved ones, co-workers, neighbours. It is unacceptable to the Brockville Police. That is why, in support of Operation Impact, we will be observing and spending special attention on distracted driving, impaired driving, seatbelt usage and aggressive driving.

Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and member agencies of the CACP Traffic Committee from across Canada in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2015, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2015.

Please be careful this weekend and make good decisions!!
