The purpose of the Forensic Identification Officer for the Brockville Police Service is the collection, preservation, packaging, transportation and documentation of physical evidence left at a crime scene.
These crime scenes vary from break and enters, stolen vehicles, to most serious being a homicide. The techniques vary from special chemicals to “glow in the dark” powders for finding fingerprints left behind. Unknown fingerprints get uploaded to “AFIS” to see if there is a match with a suspect.
The Brockville Police Service Ident Unit is supported with the aid of 7 Scenes of Crime Officers, or “SOCOs” for short.
