Secret Shopper Fraud

On August 29th at 10:29 am, Brockville Police took a fraud complaint from a local senior.

The man received two cheques to cash, he was to retain a certain amount of the money and send the rest back to the fraudster. Originally he responded to an ad on-line. The first cheque was for several thousand dollars and went through the bank, the second was subject to a hold and then the cheques were both determined to be fraudulent. The victim is out several thousand dollars.

Once again, we encourage people not to get involved in these scams. If it seems too good to be true, it is.

 

Theft of Fuel

On August 29th at 11:41 am, Brockville Police took a theft complaint from a north end gas station.

The vehicle parked at an angle to avoid identification and the male driver made off with a quantity of fuel. The car is described as a white GMC, possibly an Envoy and the right front wheel could have been the spare tire. The suspect wore something to cover his face preventing a decent description.

The investigation is continuing.

 

Drinking Leads to Probation Breach

On August 29th at 2:56 pm, Brockville Police attended the center/west area of the city to deal with a man drawing attention to himself.

Witnesses indicated the subject was carrying alcohol and removing his clothing while yelling on the street. Officers had dealt with the local 29 year old many times. He was arrested and charged with breaching his probation order by consuming alcohol and held in custody. An appearance in bail court will take place.

 

Domestic Dispute Results in Assault Charges

On August 29th at 3:59 pm, Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute at a south end residence.

While Officers were speaking to the involved female on the front lawn, the male exited the residence and began yelling. While being restrained, the man attempted to strike one of the Officers and then grabbed him around the waist and tackled him.   He was pulled off by a second Officer and eventually placed in cuffs.

Police learned the male, who had been consuming alcohol, had struck the female in the face several times. Items in the house were damaged by the accused including pouring beer or water on the television and breaking a picture frame.

He now faces charges of assault, assault Police, resisting arrest and mischief. An appearance in bail court will take place.

The woman and the Officer sustained minor injuries in the incident.

 

Drinking Leads to Bail Violation.

On August 30th at 1:18 am, Brockville Police Officers observed an intoxicated female walking on a south end street.

The local 60 year old was on conditions of a recognizance, one of which involved no consumption of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with breaching her release conditions and held in custody for a bail hearing.
