The Canada Revenue Agency scam has once again made an appearance in the Brockville area.
A Brockville resident reported to police yesterday receiving a call from a male with a heavy accent identifying himself as being with the Canada Revenue Agency and stating he owed $5,000 in back taxes. If he did not make payment immediately a warrant would be issued by the RCMP and he would be subject to a $75,000 fine or 5 years in jail but if he paid up he would not be prosecuted. The caller even left a phone number to return his call which was of course answered by the fraudster.
