Warrant
A 40 year old male was arrested on an outstanding warrant as he was observed traveling on Parkedale Ave. The male was transported to the Brockville Jail to serve out his sentence. The subject was also charged for driving while under suspension.
Mischief
Police are investigating three separate occurrences where tires of vehicles were slashed in the downtown core. If anyone has any information they are asked to contact Brockville Police .
Unused Medication brought to School
Shortly after 1:00 pm yesterday afternoon Brockville Police responded with Leeds and Grenville EMS to assist staff at a local public school after a student brought some of his parent’s medication to school and shared it with friends. Staff at the school acted quickly and three youths were conveyed by EMS to Brockville General Hospital (BGH) and were examined and later released to their parents.
Further investigation revealed the children found the medication in an old purse of one of the children’s parents, which the parent thought was empty. The child brought the medication to school and the students experimented with the pills and soon did not feel well. Staff at the school contacted emergency services immediately upon learning of this and the students were conveyed to BGH. Fortunately, for all involved everyone is in good health.
Letters went home from the school to all students in the classrooms of the youths involved informing the parents of what had taken place and the staff, school and school board are working very closely with their community partners to educate students on the dangers of taking medications not prescribed for the person.
The public is reminded to safeguard all medications in your house and in your possession. Please destroy any unused or expired medications by returning it to your local pharmacy.
Traffic Initiative: School Zones
Traffic officers from the Brockville Police Service set up in the Kensington Parkway area yesterday morning from 8am -11am looking for speeders and distracted drivers.
Officers issued 9 speeding tickets during this time frame with the fastest stopped for 72 km/h in the 40 km/h school zone.
Arrest from weekend Domestic Disturbance
Officers from the Brockville Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up up call early Saturday morning and when they arrived they found the female resident had left the residence and her common law spouse inside. The male had been drinking and told officers all were fine, the call was dialed in error by his spouse who had left.
Police continued to look for the woman to check on her well-being and ensure her safety and eventually located her. She advised officers they had been with friends for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at their apartment before going out for the evening. When they returned to their residence after being out she and her common-law husband began to have an argument which turned physical. She called 9-1-1 before fleeing the residence.
As a result of the call and subsequent follow-up investigation police obtained a warrant for the arrest of the 41 year old Brockville man. On Wednesday afternoon at 2:10 pm police executed the warrant at the residence and arrested the male without incident. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing Thursday afternoon.
Breach of Probation
A 27 year old Brockville man is facing Breach of Probation charges after officers attended to a domestic disturbance early this morning at a Kensington Parkway residence.
At 4:45 am police responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance taking place at the residence. On arrival officers found the young man and his girlfriend having a verbal argument. The parties agreed to stop and go their separate ways for the night but further investigation revealed the man to have outstanding warrants for Breaching his Probation. As a result he was arrested for Breach of Probation and later released from custody with a future court date.
Fraudulent Water Inspector Scam
Brockville Police received several calls during the day Wednesday from residents who were getting phone calls from a company to check on their water systems. Police have confirmed with Jason Barlow Chief Operator –Water Systems for the City of Brockville they are not making these calls to residents in the city.
Phone numbers on the call display from these scammers are “spoofed “or disguised so the origin of the calls cannot be traced. They will often show up on call displays as strange combination of numbers that have been auto programmed.
Residents are encouraged to politely decline the request for inspection and to not let contractors into their homes for water inspections that they have not solicited.
Fraud at Petro Canada
Yesterday morning Brockville Police responded to a complaint at the Petro Canada at 340 Stewart Blvd of 3 males using a Petro Points App on their phone to purchase pre-paid VISA cards.
At 930 am yesterday morning officers attended and spoke with staff at the Petro Canada and learned that the suspects attended inside the store and purchased the cards using their phone app. It wasn’t until after they had left staff learned the Points Card numbers used in the phone app were either fraudulent or stolen.
During the investigation police also learned that the Petro Canada at 325 Stewart Blvd was also a victim of the scam and this fraud is in use along the Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa highway corridor.
Businesses are encouraged to act cautiously when accepting points or reward cards as payment for prepaid VISA cards or gift cards especially in large amounts. Either ask for the actual card or for identification of the customer when possible.
Grandparent Scam:
The “grandparent” scam is active in the Brockville area again.
In this scam, residents will receive a phone call saying a family member has been involved in an accident or similarly is in some sort of difficulty while away travelling or on business. The caller will say the loved one is in need of money immediately for such things as medical treatment, travel expenses, or bail money and will provide an address to wire the information.
Please do not send money to anyone you do not know. Check with your other family members about the loved one, prior to sending any money.
Busy 24 hour period:
The Brockville Police responded to 34 calls for service during the 24 hour period from 7 am Tuesday morning until 7 am Wednesday morning. There were 4 calls of suspicious persons near businesses or residences, 4 community service calls to assist our partner agencies, 3 alarm calls, 2 threatening complaints and 2 calls for domestic disputes. In addition officers responded to a number of traffic complaints and collisions.
Breach of Recognizance
A 22 year old Brockville man is facing charges of Breach his Recognizance after his surety called police yesterday morning about his behaviour.
At 8:05 Monday morning officers attended to a Wellington Street residence on a report that the male was upset, yelling and screaming and in emotional distress. He had locked himself in his room and was refusing to come out. When officers arrived the male initially refused to speak with officers but later allowed them to open the door. While officers were speaking with him they noticed an object in his hand, which he dropped at the request of police before coming out of his room and surrendering to the officers without further incident.
The young man was currently residing in the community on a Recognizance of bail at the time of the occurrence and as a result was arrested for breaching his Recognizance and held for bail.
Youth Apprehended
A 16 year old Brockville youth was apprehended and conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital after being located on the 401 highway early last evening.
Brockville Police received a call from the youth’s parents at approximately 6:00 pm when the youth had not returned home after saying he was going out for a walk. They had been very concerned because of recent behaviour of the youth for his well-being.
A short time later police began to receive several 9-1-1 calls of a youth in the east bound 401 lanes. A passerby was able to get the youth into their vehicle for safety until officers from Leeds County OPP arrived to take custody. The youth was then turned over to Brockville officers who conveyed him to the Brockville General Hospital for examination.
Drugs
A 41 year old Brockville man is facing charges of Production of a Controlled substance after Brockville Police attended to a residence early Saturday Morning.
Police received a 9-1-1 hang-up call from a residence on Bennett St at 5:15 Saturday morning and when communicators got on the phone line the caller hung up. Officer’s continued and responded to the residence and spoke with residents are confirmed the person causing problems had left the residence. However, while inside the residence officers observed 7 juvenile marijuana plants.
The Brockville man admitted they were his and the plants were seized and he was given an Appearance Notice with a future court date for the Production charges.
Domestic Mischief Charges
A 28 year old Brockville man turned himself in to Brockville Police headquarters Sunday in relation to a domestic incident from Friday afternoon.
At 1:30 pm Friday, police were contacted by the 26 year old former spouse of the man who advised that during an argument a number of household items were smashed and broken before he left her residence.
The young man was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
Theft of tires
Welburn Service Centre contacted the Brockville Police yesterday morning to report that sometime overnight March 15-16th unknown persons stole a set of tires from the bed of a pickup truck parked in their lot overnight.
The tires were Winter Cat radial tires on alloy rims commonly used on larger pickup trucks.

Shoplifter at Sears
Loss prevention officers at Sears apprehended a 17 year old Smiths Falls girl for shoplifting at Sears yesterday evening. The youth was observed selecting approximately $75 worth of merchandise and attempting to leave the store when she was approached by security and asked to return to await police.
When police arrived, they learned the youth had no prior police involvement and her parents were contacted. All involved agreed to participation in a youth diversionary program and she was released into the custody of her parents.
Mischief
Brockville Police were called to an apartment in the area of Sheridan Mews early this morning on a report that someone had thrown a rock through an apartment window.
At 2:40 am a 23 year old woman contacted police after she was awakened by her second floor window being broken and finding a small rock on her floor. When she looked outside she could see footprints but no one in the area and called police.

Winter By-Law Snow Removal Tickets
As City Works crews continued their snow removal south of the railway tracks in the city, Brockville police issued 26 tickets overnight for winter control and towed a number of vehicles at the request of snow removal crews.
Missing Person Marissa Steacy Located
Marissa Steacy was located last evening by Leeds County OPP and is in good physical condition and speaking with officers.

Winter Control By-Law Tickets
As a result of this week’s late winter storm the Brockville Police issued 11 by-law tickets to vehicles parked on the street overnight and slowing City Works crews clearing the streets.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
During the day Wednesday, Brockville Police responded to 3 motor vehicle collisions in the city during the storm. Of the collisions, two involved motorists involved in collisions with other vehicles involved in snow removal activities.
There were no injuries as a result.
Storm related occurrences
Brockville Police report only one minor collision over the past 24 hours during the latest winter storm. Yesterday morning officers attended the area of William Street at Eleanor for a minor collision involving two cars. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.
Officers were kept busy throughout the city during the storm, responding to 28 calls for service including assisting stranded motorists, and responding to business alarms during the evening and overnight hours which appear to have been set off by the winds from the storm.
Missing Person update: Marissa Steacy
Brockville Police are receiving calls from family members, friends, and members of the public and who have either seen or talked with Marissa in the Brockville area over the past couple of days. Police are still looking to speak with Marissa to check on her well-being and ensure she is in good health.
Fail to Attend Court
A 17 year old Brockville youth was arrested yesterday on an arrest warrant for failing to attend court. Officers spotted the youth walking in the city’s north end and knew he was wanted for the outstanding warrant. He was arrested without incident and brought to the Brockville Police Service where he was processed and released from custody on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
Fraud Prevention Month Series: This week – Rental Scams
In this fraud scheme, the fraudsters create false classified as usually online for rentals in preferred locations. These ads often target seniors, single parents or students attending post-secondary education. The ads are often posted with a below average asking price to draw attention and get the quick sale, and the fraudster will give interested customers a questionnaire asking for personal information which may include banking information, personal contact information, occupation, and possibly even employment and income information.
The scammer will portray themselves as an out-of-town landlord who is looking for a good tenant to look after their property. Tours of the property are not available at the time of the ad but pictures will be posted in the online advertisement and scammers will indicate a full refund is available if the rental does not meet their satisfaction.
Once the offer is accepted, first and last month’s rent must be sent by the consumer to secure the property. Money is usually sent by email or wire transfer in exchange for the keys. The result is no keys are ever sent, there is no rental available.
Over the past year the Brockville Police have investigated two similar occurrences where victims lost approximately $1000 in each case and were able to lay charges in one of the occurrences. Prosecution can be very difficult as many times the deposit money is sent out of Canada
How to protect yourself:
Brockville Police continued with our March break RIDE program last evening and once again resulted in a seizure of drugs.
At approximately 8:20 pm officers were set up on Parkedale Avenue near Stewart Blvd when a 34 year old Brockville woman approached the officers. The woman was known to police and it was learned that she had outstanding warrants for breaching her probation order. As a result she was placed under arrest under the authority of the warrant and while doing a search of her a quantity of Crystal Methamphetamine was located.
As a result she was conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where she was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Breach of Probation and released with a future court date.
