On May 11th, at approximately 1:45 pm, Brockville Police with the Brockville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 30 Havelock St.
The house was destroyed as a result and the cause has yet to be determined. No one was home at the time and Victim Services was called in to assist the residents of the damaged home.
On May 10th, at approximately 11:10 pm, Brockville Police responded to an assault complaint outside a pool hall on Broad St.
At the scene police dealt with the 40 year old, local victim who had been jumped and “sucker punched” while exiting the establishment.
A short time later, police located the responsible party several blocks away. The local, 30 year old male, known to Police, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court later today.
The victim required medical attention after he suffered some non-life threatening injuries.
On May 10th at approximately 1:40 am, Brockville Police responded to a King St. E. bar after receiving a call of a male attempting to drive while intoxicated.
The 65 year old, local male, was attempting to drive away from the area on his E-bike. Citizens were having difficulties convincing him not to. The male was arrested for public intoxication. He was released when sober with a fine.
On May 9th, at approximately 8:00 pm, Brockville Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Wal-Mart in the north end of the city. It was left running with no one around.
Police located a male nearby that was associated to the car. He was found to have been drinking however could not be placed behind the wheel. The 32 year old male, from Ottawa, was currently facing charges and had a condition not to consume alcohol. He was arrested and charged with breaching the conditions of his undertaking and released later with a future court date.
On May 8th, at approximately 4:25 pm, Brockville Police responded to the rear parking lot of a business on a King St. W. in regards to a passed out male party.
Police located a 21 year old, local male, heavily intoxicated. The male was on conditions of both probation and an undertaking which he was now in breach of. After being checked out medically, he was arrested and charged with those offences and held in custody. The male will appear in bail court.
On May 8th, at approximately 10:55 am, Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the center of town.
Investigation revealed the 29 year old, male resident, had assaulted his 24 year old, female partner. The accused was arrested and charged with assault. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court later today. The female received minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
SAVING LIVES DURING CANADA ROAD SAFETY WEEK
May 12th to 18th, 2015 will mark Canada Road Safety Week, a national campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
This campaign is a police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority. the focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk. These are: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive and distracted driving. All enforcement agencies across the country have been invited to participate.
“The deaths, injuries and broken hearts that result from carelessness behind the wheel can be prevented”, says Staff Sgt. Todd Bertrend. “Police agencies across the country are collaborating on this initiative and asking you to choose safe behaviours while travelling on our roadways, whether you are driving or a passenger. It is incumbent upon the police and the public to work together to ensure that Canada’s roadways are the safest in the world.”
Here in Brockville, there have been numerous serious injuries over the last year related to vehicle collisions. These preventable injuries have a lifelong impact on many individuals and families in our communities. In support of Canada Road Safety Week, the Brockville Police Service will be targeting certain offences.
Canada Road Safety Week is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and Transport Canada and is part of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2015, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2015.

This year, May 10th to 16th has been designated as Police Week in Ontario.
The Brockville Police Service is among the many Police Services that will also be kickin off it’s week full of events on May 9th, 2015. This year’s theme, DISCOVER POILICING, invites members of all our communities to discover the many ways their poilce services are serving their communities. It also encourages Ontarians from all walks of life to consider a rewarding and fulfilling career in law enforcement both as sworn and civilian members of police organizations.
This year, we are inviting citizens to get to know their police services and our officers better. We are urging everyone to “discover policing” – the many facets of law enforcement and community policing, the amazing work of so many of our officers and the rewarding careers that await those who embark on a law enforcement career.

On May 5th, at approximately 5:40 pm., Brockville Police responded to a theft complaint from the LCBO store on King St. W.
Police located the responsible party shortly afterwards in the area. A local, 21 year old male was arrested and charged with theft under $5000.00 and breaching his probation order. He was released with a future court date.
On May 5th, at approximately 5:20 pm., Brockville Police responded to an assault complaint outside of a south end residence.
Investigation revealed that a local, 15 year old male had been assaulted by a local 18 year old male. The victim required no medical treatment for his minor injuries. The accused was arrested and charged with the offence. He was released later on conditions with a future court date.
