News Release September 2 – 4, 2023

Impaired Driving

On September 2, 2023 at about 4:00am, an officer observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was located and stopped shortly after in the area of George St. The driver was identified to be a 17-year-old, male. There were concerns with the driver as it appeared that he had been consuming alcohol and possessed a G2 licence. The subject failed a roadside breath screening test and was placed under arrest. He was brought to the Brockville Police Service where further testing confirmed that he was impaired. His driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired by alcohol – over 80mgs. He was released with a future court date.

 

Suspicious Individuals Leads to Arrest

On September 2, 2023 at about 10:30am, police received a call regarding suspicious people in the area of California Ave. Officers attended and located the individuals. There was a female and a 34-year-old, male. Investigation revealed that his male was linked to four previous thefts from the LCBO stores located at Parkedale Ave. and King St. W. It was also found that the male was failing to comply with multiple other court orders as he was not to communicate with the female he was in company with. He was arrested and held for bail for the offences of four counts of theft under $5,000.00, two counts of fail to comply with probation, and fail to comply with release order.    

Summer in Review

Summer in Review

After looking back at what took place in our community over summer, it was found that the Brockville Police Service received 3,838 calls for service. This took place during an approximate ten week period from June 26, 2023 – September 4, 2023. Here are only some of the results of those calls during that ten week period:

Review

In the previous 48 hours the Brockville Police Service has received 100 calls for service. These calls for service resulted in the following:

Domestic Dispute

On August 29, 2023 at about 10:30am, police received information regarding a domestic dispute that took place in the area of Kensington Pkwy. Investigation revealed that a 33-year-old, male, had assaulted his girlfriend by shoving her face first into a television stand and threatening harm on her. There were concerns of the males well being due to some comments of possible self-harm. The male was located and taken for an assessment. Once complete, he was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of assault and uttering threats.

 

Theft Suspect Arrested

On August 24, 2023, police received information regarding a theft at the Circle K store on King St. W. The theft took place the previous night on August 23, 2023. The incident was captured on video and the suspect was identified to be a 20-year-old, male. The theft of merchandise had a total value of $54.00. On August 28, 2023, at about 10:30pm, officers located the subject in the area of Rotary Park. He was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and released on documents with a future court date.

News Release – August 25 – 27, 2023

Weekend Review

Over the weekend of August 25-27, 2023, the Brockville Police Service received 120 Calls for service. While investigating these incidents there were three arrests made, one mental health apprehension and five criminal code charges laid. The following are some of those details.

 

Family Dispute

On August 25, 2023 at about 7:30pm, police received a call of a disturbance at a residence on Amy St. Officers arrived on scene and learned that a 16-year-old, male, had been in a physical confrontation with his grandfather on the front lawn. He also caused damage to the wall of the residence. The 16-year-old subject was arrested and while in police custody he continued to threaten harm to his father and grandfather. The 16-year-old was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of mischief under $5,000.00, fail to comply with probation and two counts of uttering threats.  

 

Arrest Made in LCBO Theft

On August 25, 2023 at about 4:00pm, police received a report of a theft from the LCBO on Parkedale Ave. Information was that a 45-year-old, male, attended the store and selected two bottles of Crown Royal Whiskey valued at $138.90. The male left the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. The male was captured on video and police identified the suspect. On August 26, 2023 at about 8:15pm, police located the male subject in the area of Brock St. and placed him under arrest. He was previously trespassed and not welcome on LCBO property due to similar incidents. He was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and trespassing. He was released shortly after with a future court date.

Week in Review

Since Friday, August 19, 2023 and the time of this release, the Brockville Police Service has received 274 calls for service. During those calls for service there were the following:

Impaired Driving

On August 21, 2023 at about 3:00pm, police received a call of a motor vehicle collision at Parkedale Ave. and Windsor Dr. Investigation revealed that a 48-year-old, female driver, struck another vehicle from behind. It was determined through field sobriety and Drug Recognition Expert testing that the driver in question was impaired by drugs. The drugs were believed to be a combination of prescription medication. Her vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired by drugs. She was released with a future court date.

 

Mischief

On August 21, 2023 at about 10:00pm, police received a call regarding a 24-year-old, male, causing damage to a vehicle. The subject was observed in the area of King St. W. and Kincaid St., striking a parked vehicle with a hammer attempting to break a window. The male was located quickly by police and arrested. He appeared to have been under the influence of drugs. Once arrested and searched the hammer was in his possession. He was charged with mischief under $5,000.00, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and later released with a future court date.   

News Release – August 12 – 14, 2023

Drug Investigation/Warrant executed

On the 12th of August 2023 members of the Brockville Police Service, Drugs and Intelligence Unit, assisted by the OPP led Provincial Guns and Gangs East team, executed a warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, at a King Street Address in downtown Brockville.  As a result, a quantity of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, cash and a prohibited weapon were seized.  Due to the quantities of drugs located, two women were charged with trafficking offences.  One of the women, was serving a conditional sentence in the community for similar offences, and was further breached and held in custody.  That female was additionally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

News Release August 5 – 9, 2023

Impaired Driving

On August 5, 2023 at about 2:15am, police were on an unrelated investigation downtown in the area of King St. W and John St. While there a pickup truck and motorcycle were observed leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle was stopped and found to not having functioning brake lights. The operator of the motorcycle was a 27-year-old, male. A breath demand was given and the male failed the roadside breath test. He was arrested and when searched, officers located brass knuckles in the male’s possession. During this event, the pickup truck that had taken off at a high rate of speed previously, had passed by the officers’ multiple times while conducting the breath tests. The truck was stopped and the operator was found to be a 48-year-old, male. Investigation led to the officer making a breath test demand and the 48-year-old, male, failed the breath test as well. Both males were taken for further testing. It was confirmed that the 48-year-old, male, was operating the vehicle at the “Alert” level, resulting in a three-day licence suspension and a separate traffic ticket. The 27-year-old, male, was confirmed to be operating the vehicle while over the legal limit. His motorcycle was impounded, licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and multiple traffic related offences. He was released with conditions and a future court date.


Shoplifting

On August 6, 2023 at about 5:30pm, police received a complaint regarding a theft at Walmart on Parkedale Ave. Police identified the suspect to be a 53-year-old, male. He had attended the store an stole an electric lawn mower valued at $315. He was located shortly after and a and placed under arrest for theft. The item was recovered and returned to Walmart. Investigation revealed that the male also had a warrant for his arrest for fail to attend court in relation to a separate theft charge from earlier this year. He was held in custody for a bail hearing in relation to the warrant and his new charge of theft under $5,000.00.

 

Male Arrested for Damaging the Brockville Police Station

On August 8, 2023 at about 12:15pm, a 41-year-old, male, attended to the Brockville Police Service and without any warning, placed a rock in a sock and proceeded to smash multiple windows at the front of the police station. On his final targeted window, the rock was thrown through the window and damaged other property inside. Officers quickly responded and confronted the male on the front lawn. He was stopped and taken into custody. The total value of the damage is not yet known but is estimated to be several thousand dollars. The male, who is a member of our homeless community, was held in custody for a bail hearing.       

 

Male Arrested After a Family Dispute

On August 9, 2023 at about 3:15am, police received a call to attend a residence on Church St., in relation to a family dispute. Investigation revealed a 37-year-old, male, had been drinking and engaged in an argument with his wife and two teenage children. During the argument, the male proceeded to damage his wife’s cell phone. He had shoved his wife and when his children attempted to intervene, he shoved his daughter and struck his son in the face. He then took his wife’s identification and fled the residence as police were notified. All injuries are described as non-life-threatening. A short time later, the male was contacted and then turned himself into police. He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing and charged with three counts of assault, mischief under $5,000.00 and possession of an identity document. 

News Release July 27 – 28, 2023

Medical Emergencies Due to Drug Overdose

On July 27, 2023, police responded to multiple calls for service regarding individuals in destress due to drug overdoses. In two of these calls, Narcan was administered to two individuals in need. In total, 11 doses of Narcan were administered as a life saving measure. In one of these incidents, at about 10:00PM, officers administered 8 doses of Narcan in conjunction with the deliberator in giving aid to a subject at the Days Inn. These actions by the officers saved this person’s life. Thankfully, Paramedics attended with their expertise and escorted the male to the Brockville General Hospital where he is recovering. This is another great example of the excellent work by all the dedicated first responders in our area; and an important reminder of the dangers of substance use.

 

Defamatory Propaganda

It has come to the attention of the Brockville Police Service that defamatory propaganda has been posted around our community, with reference to the ongoing Family and Children’s Services Lanark, Leeds and Grenville and CUPE Union labour dispute. Neither Family and Children’s Services, CUPE or the Brockville Police Service condone this type of behaviour. If anyone has information as to who is responsible for posting this content, please notify the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127.   

News Release July 24 – 26, 2023

Wanted Person Arrested

On July 24, 2023, at about 11:30AM in the area of Pearl St. W., police located a 45-year-old, male, known to be wanted for theft. The theft took place on July 22, 2023, where the male subject stole $101.75 worth of alcohol, from the LCBO on King St. W. The male was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.00 along with three counts of breach probation. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Shoplifter Charged After Obstructing the Police Investigation

On July 25, 2023, at about 5:30PM, police received a call to attend the SuperStore on Parkedale Ave., regarding a shoplifter. Police attended and learned that a female had attended and concealed approximately $300.00 worth of various merchandise in bags and made no attempt to pay. It was discovered that the female was giving police a false name in hopes to avoid charges. Investigation revealed the actual identity of the 31-year-old, female. She was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and obstruct peace officer. She was released with a future court date.

 

News Release July 19 – 24, 2023

Arrest Warrant Executed

On July 23, 2023, at about 9:00AM, an officer from the Brockville Police Service, observed a 35-year-old, male, known to be wanted. The male was known to have a warrant for a charge of failing to comply with probation. This was a breach of a condition to abstain from communicating with a victim from a previous offence. In fact, police had evidence of an additional breach of the condition on a separate day. When the officers located the male in the area of King St. W., they went to place the him under arrest. The male was not cooperative and the subject resisted the arrest. The male was taken to the ground and into custody. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. The male was held in for a bail hearing for the offences of resist arrest and three counts of failing to comply with probation.

 

Neighbour Dispute Results in Assault Charges

On July 21, 2023, at about 10:45PM, police received a call regarding a two neighbours in an altercation in the area of Glenn Wood Pl. Investigation revealed that during the dispute, one of the neighbours, identified to be a 54-year-old, male, actually entered into the other’s residence. Once he entered, he initiated a fight and assaulted the male resident. The wife of the victim attempted to intervene and she was assaulted as well by the subject grabbing her arm and twisting her wrist. Once the subject learned that the police were notified, he subject fled. On July 22, 2023, at about 10:00PM, police located the subject and placed him under arrest for unlawfully in a dwelling and two counts of assault. He was released on conditions and a future court date. Any injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

 

Impaired Driving

On July 21, 2023, at about 9:30PM, police received a call of a male appearing to have been in a motor vehicle collision in the area of Clarissa St. Information about the incident was that the subject appeared very intoxicated, there was smoke coming from the vehicle and two tires were flat. Bystanders actually had taken the keys prior to police arrival. Assistance from Brockville Fire Department was requested due to the presence of smoke. When police arrived they discovered that the driver was a 60-year-old, male. He was displaying obvious signs of impairment and was arrested. The smoke was due to the clutch on the vehicle burning and the flat tires were confirmed, however, the cause as to how they flattened was unknown. The arrested driver was taken to the Brockville Police Service for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert. It was confirmed that he was under the influence of drugs. Officers also discovered that the male was in possession of a quantity of fentanyl. The vehicle was towed, driver’s licence was suspended and he was released once sober after being charged with impaired operation by drugs.        

 

Warrants

On July 20, 2023, at about 11:00AM, police received a report of a theft from the LCBO on Parkedale Ave. Investigation revealed that a 33-year-old, female, had entered the store and stole $121.35 worth of merchandise. She had left the scene but was identified and an arrest warrant requested. On July 21, 2023, at about 9:15PM, the subject was located and arrested for theft under $5,000.00 and failing to comply with two different probation orders. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Suspect of Multiple Thefts Arrested

On July 19th and 21st, 2023, two thefts had taken place at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Parkedale Ave. A 28-year-old, male, was identified as the subject responsible for the thefts. The thefts consisted of approximately $8,000.00 worth of various fragrances being taken. The subject was also on probation with a condition to abstain from attending Shoppers Drug Mart. On July 22, 2023, at about 11:45PM, the subject had returned to Shoppers Drug Mart and was located there and arrested. He was held in custody for two counts of theft under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation.
