Public Awareness Release Regarding Distraction Thefts

Yesterday, February 2, 2024, the Brockville Police Service received multiple complaints regarding distraction thefts at various locations. The incident locations were reported from the Superstore, Food Basics and Giant Tiger. It is important to note that there could be others that have not yet been noticed or reported. Investigation revealed that two male suspects were involved. They can be observed in the photographs below for the best description. The suspects were targeting females and attempting to distract them in order to surreptitiously steal their purse or wallet. Multiple items were taken and fraudulent transactions were made on victims’ financial cards. In one incident at Food Basics, the victim became aware of what was happening and engaged in a tug-of-war over her purse. She was successful in retaining her purse and the suspects quickly fled.
