There are only six weeks left in the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Leeds-Grenville & Lanark’s “Caring for Our Community” Capital Campaign that concludes on Sunday, August 31st with a “Wrap Party” at the Keystorm Pub. And there are many ways in which the general public can contribute to the Brigade’s fundraising efforts.
Coming off the Capital Campaign’s most successful fundraiser to date, the July 11th “An Evening of Art & Music at the Connell Homestead in Spencerville”, there are several smaller events and projects planned. Almost 80 patrons attended the July 11th fundraiser hosted by Sarah Jane and Richard Dumbrille in the historic Connell Homestead, at which the guests were treated to swing music by Alexander’s Big Time Band, exciting live and silent auctions featuring local artists, and a wonderful summer’s meal. The $12,300 raised that evening helped to bring the current fundraising total over $150,000.
On Saturday, August 2nd Acting Chief of the Brockville Police Services, Scott Fraser will take part in the “Ice Bucket Challenge” to raise even more funds for the SJA Capital Campaign. Earlier in July, David Dargie – Capital Campaign Coordinator “called out” both former BPS Chief Barry King and Chief Fraser to take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, where a person pours a bucket of ice water over his/her head and then challenges two other people to do the same within 48 hours or else contribute to a designated charity. Chief King responded on time, however Chief Fraser missed his “window of opportunity” and will now have a public soaking, all to benefit the “Caring for Our Community” Capital Campaign.
The public is invited to support Chief Fraser’s fundraising efforts both before August 2nd and at the “Ice Bucket Challenge” that is scheduled for 10:00 AM on August 2nd at the City of Brockville’s Farmers’ Market. Members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade will be “passing the hat” for Chief Fraser to make sure that he can make a “healthy” contribution to the Capital Campaign. All of the fun associated with this event will be captured on video and posted on You Tube.
David Dargie, originator of the “Ice Bucket Challenge” and the “Caring for Our Community” Capital Campaign Coordinator observed, “We are very fortunate to have two good sports, former BPS Chief Barry King and Acting Chief Scott Fraser, who are willing to take the Ice Bucket Challenge and raise funds for the ‘Caring for Our Community’ Capital Campaign. Everyone is invited to the Farmers’ Market in Downtown Brockville on Saturday, August 2nd at 10:00 AM to witness some good old fashioned FUN raising! We have several other ways in which everyone in Leeds-Grenville & Lanark Counties can help us reach our Capital Campaign goals. Watch in the coming weeks to see how you can help us reach our goals.”

Lock Your Vehicle
Police once again remind the public to lock their vehicles while parked. With the nice weather, these types of criminal activity are more common.
If you have items removed from your vehicle, call Police. This allows us to look at certain patterns and possibly identify future suspects.
Please report any suspicious activity to allow police to respond in a timely fashion.
Stolen Vehicle
On July 21st, Police took a complaint of a stolen vehicle from the Garden St. area.
The vehicle was parked overnight in front of a residence.
Stolen was a dark green dodge caravan. It had duct tape near the rear tail lights and a rusted roof. Licence plate #BDHB259 (Ontario)
No keys were left in the vehicle.

Disturb the Peace
On July 20th, Police dispatched to the Holiday Inn convention Center on Kent Blvd. Report of male party who was causing a problem within a function taking place.
The male suspect, 30 yrs. of age, resides east of the city. He was arrested and charged with Breaching his Recognizance and Breaching his Undertaking. These documents were in place in regards to unrelated charges.

Theft from Vehicles
On July 20th, Police dispatched to center area of town in regards to youths going through parked vehicles.
A short distance away, police located three male youth and one female youth. Investigation revealed they were in possession of stolen property from the some of the vehicles. One of the males ran while in police custody and was captured after a short foot pursuit. Two of the males were 18, one 17 and the female was 16. All parties were charged w
Theft from Vehicle
On July 18th, Police dispatched to an address in the west/center section of town. Resident had caught a subject going through their parked vehicle.
A local 18 yr. old male was arrested/charged with Trespass by Night, Theft and Possession of Break and Enter Tools.
He was released with conditions and given a future court date.
Disturb the Peace
On July 16th, Brockville Police attended a north end apartment complex in regards to a male party drinking, yelling and basically causing a disturbance.
The local male, 27 yrs. of age, was arrested and charged with Breach of conditions of his Recognizance for past charges.
He was held for Bail court yesterday.
Drug Offence
On the 14th of July, 2014 members of the Brockville Police Service investigated a possible drug offence in the south end of the city. As a result of the investigation, an adult male was arrested and charged with possession of marihuana, breaching his undertaking and one count of breaching his probation order.
During the incident an adult male and female attempted to intervene on behalf of the accused. Both subjects were arrested and the male was charged with obstruct police. The adult female became assaultive and was charged with assault police with the intent to resist arrest.
There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
All subjects were released on Promise to Appears with future court dates.
Disturbance
On the 14th of July, 2014 Police responded to the area of the beer store 125 Stewart Blvd, Brockville for a reported disturbance. Investigation revealed an on-going domestic dispute involving an adult male and female. It is alleged the male assaulted his girlfriend and caused damage to her property and subsequent damage to the vehicle they were travelling in. The female is alleged to have assaulted the male inside the vehicle.
The male was arrested and charged with assault and mischief. The female was arrested and charged with assault.
There were no injuries as a result of this matter. Both subjects will appear in court at a later date.
