December 16 – 17, 2019 News Release

Suspicious Person:

On December 16, 2019 shortly after 5:00 a.m. police received a complaint of a suspicious person in the back yard of a residence in the center of the city. The home owner was awakened by a 36 year old male that was yelling saying he was trapped in a tree as the complainant’s dogs had chased when he was in the back yard.  The male climbed the tree to escape the dogs.   The male was then arrested as he had warrants for his arrest from the Ontario Provincial Police. 

 

Theft/drugs:

On the 16th of December at 12:00 p.m. police were dispatched to the Dollarama on Parkedale Ave. in response to a 31 year old female that was reported to have been shoplifting and fled the location. A description of the suspect was provided to police who located the female a short distance away.  She was arrested for the offence of theft.  A search incident to arrest led to the discovery of methamphetamine.  She was also on a recognizance of bail from previous charges.  She was charged with theft, possession of a controlled substance and failing to comply with her recognizance of bail.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

December 13 – 14, 2019 News Release

Bail Violations:

On the 14th of December 2019 shortly after 1:00 p.m. police were called to Winners on Parkedale Avenue for a person that staff suspected of stealing.  Officers arrived on scene and located a 37 year old female.  The female had a warrant for her arrest from a previous incident.  She was then arrested without incident.  As a result of this call, she was also charged with failing to comply with a recognizance of bail, theft and breach of probation.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Domestic Mischief:

On the 13th of December shortly before midnight, police responded to complaint of a domestic dispute in the city’s north end.  A 24 year old male was arrested and charged with mischief for damaging some property.  He was released with a future court date.

 

Public Intoxication:

On the 14th of December 2019 at 2:00 a.m. police were called to the Brockville General Hospital for an intoxicated male that was refusing to leave the hospital grounds. Officers arrested the 23 year old male for his own safety due to his intoxicated state. He was held in custody until sober and issued a $55 fine.

 

Domestic Assault:

On the 13th of December 2019 close to 11:00 p.m. police were called to an apartment in the city’s south end for a domestic dispute.  As a result of the investigation it was determined that a 26 year old male had assaulted the 23 year old female victim.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

December 11, 2019 – Accidents

Accidents:

25 accidents reported during the snowfall

With a sudden and heavy snow fall yesterday that led to the closure of Highway 401 due to a fatality and multi vehicle collisions; traffic was then diverted through the city causing the city’s streets. The increase in traffic and poor road conditions led to numerous collisions.   As a result of the road conditions several streets had to be temporarily closed until they could be plowed and sanded.  Several vehicles were unable to make the climb up many streets that had hills and had to be towed to level ground. Of the many collisions reported, a fire truck was struck by a vehicle at one of the collision scenes.  Thankfully, there were not any serious injuries reported in the collisions.

December 10 – 11, 2019 News Release

Traffic Stop:

On the 10th of December 2019 at 5:00 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Pearl St.  The two occupants were found to be in breach of court ordered conditions.  A search incident to arrest led to further charges of being in possession of property obtained by crime.  Both males, a 28 year old and 30 year old, were held in custody for a bail hearing later today.

 

Warrants:

On the 10th of December officers on routine patrol at 9:20 p.m. observed a 32 year old male on Daniel St.  The male was known to the officers, who were aware that there was a warrant for his arrest.  The male was arrested without incident and held in custody for a bail hearing.  The male had failed to attend court for a previous theft charge and a warrant was issued.

 

Warrants:

On the 10th of December 2019 at 3:25 p.m. officers on routine patrol arrested a 50 year old male that was wanted a warrant for failing to attend court.  The male was initially charged with failing to comply with his recognizance of bail.  He male was located walking on Perth St. and was arrested without incident.  He was later released with a future court date.

 

Mischief:

A 47 year old male was arrested yesterday at 7:40 p.m. for mischief.  Police were called to a King St. West address as male punching holes in the wall of an apartment building.  The suspect was located and arrested without incident.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

December 6 – 8, 2019 News Release

RE:  Over the weekend the Brockville Police received almost 90 calls for service; the following were as a result of a couple of arrests;

Warrants:

On the 7th of December, 2019 shortly after 4:30 pm the Brockville Police received a call to attend the North end residential area regarding a suspicious female. Police located a 27 year old female who was in breach of her release conditions. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On the 9th of December, 2019 shortly after 2:00 am the Brockville Police received a call regarding a male throwing snow balls at a north end residence. Upon arrival police located a 34 year old male that was wanted for our service for failing to appear for court. He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

SCAM – Canada Revenue Agency:

The Brockville Police has received numerous complaints regarding people in our community being scammed and victimized by people posing as the Canada Revenue Agency. The following message was taken from the Canada.ca site;

Taxpayers should be vigilant when they receive, either by telephone, mail, text message or email, a fraudulent communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requesting personal information such as a social insurance number, credit card number, bank account number, or passport number.

These scams may insist that this personal information is needed so that the taxpayer can receive a refund or a benefit payment. Cases of fraudulent communication could also involve threatening or coercive language to scare individuals into paying fictitious debt to the CRA. Other communications urge taxpayers to visit a fake CRA website where the taxpayer is then asked to verify their identity by entering personal information. These are scams and taxpayers should never respond to these fraudulent communications or click on any of the links provided.

November 29 – December 1, 2019 News Release

Compliance Check:

On the 29th of November, 2019 at approximately 3pm, Brockville Police conducted a compliance check of a 37 year old female who was on conditional sentence to remain within her residence. She was found to be in breach of that order and was arrested. She will appear for a bail hearing on Monday December 2nd.

 

Warrants:

On the 29th of November, 2019 in the morning hours, 2 individuals were arrested for failing to appear for court on previous dates.  A 28 year old male and a 41 year old female were arrested released with future court dates.

On the 30th of November, 2019 shortly after 8pm information was received to the Brockville Police regarding a wanted person in the centre of town. Police attended and located a 38 year old male who was in breach of his recognizance. He was held for a show cause hearing.

 

Domestic:

On the 1st of December, 2019 shortly after 1am, Brockville Police received a call from a resident in the centre of town reporting that her 38 year old boyfriend had just kicked down her door. He was located and arrested for mischief and released with a future court date.

November 29, 2019 News Release

Assault:

On the 27th of November at 7:00 a.m. police responded to a disturbance on Bisley Crescent.  The disturbance started in a home and spilled out onto the street.  A 43 year old male was arrested at the scene and charged with assault on a 63 year old male.  The male was released from custody with a future court date. 

 

Assault:

On November 27th at 10:00 a.m. police responded to a hotel on Kent Blvd. in response to a domestic dispute.  As a result of that investigation a 51 year old male was charged with assault, assaulting a peace officer and forcible confinement.  The male was released from custody with a future court date. 

 

 Stolen Motor Vehicle:

On November 26th at 3:45 p.m. a white GMC van was reported stolen our service.  That vehicle was later recovered by Ottawa Police and two Brockville area men have been arrested in connection with the theft.  Ottawa Police Service’s K9 unit was used in the arrest of the two suspects.

November 22 – 25, 2019 News Release

Domestic:

On the 22nd of November, 2019 shortly before 2pm there was disturbance at a south end residence.  A 32 year old female was located and arrested for assault. The victim, a 46 year old male received only minor injuries. She was also charged with 2 x Fail to comply with undertaking. She was released with a future court date.

 

Theft:

On the 22nd of November, 2019 shortly after 11pm a theft had occurred in the south end of the city. A suspect vehicle and description was obtained by video surveillance. That vehicle was located a short distance away where the 34 year old male was arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of crystal methamphetamine. He was released with a future court date.

November 21, 2019 News Release

Warrants: 

A 52 year old male was arrested by Kingston Police yesterday for charges of fraud stemming from an incident in Brockville.  The male was turned over to our service and was released with a future court date.

Theft:

On the 20th of November 2019 at 12:37 p.m. police responded to Walmart on Parkedale Avenue for shoplifter. The suspect had assaulted the loss prevention officer and fled the scene.  A 30 year old female was identified through CCTV footage and will be charged with theft, assault and several breaches of her court ordered conditions. 

Breach of Conditions:

On the 21st of November 2019 at 12:08 p.m. a male was observed by staff at the Brockville Police Service urinating on the fence that separates the station and the train tracks.  The male was spoken to by an officer.  The 21 year old male was actually on his way to the station to turn himself in for a breach of a bail condition.  He was arrested without incident and held in custody for a bail hearing.  He was given advice to use a washroom the next time nature called.

Request for Police Assistance – November 17th Incident

Brockville Police continue to investigate the incident which occurred between 9:30 and 10:00 pm on November 17, 2019 on Cedar Street in the City. Investigators would like to speak to the driver and occupants of several vehicles that are believed to have been in the area around that time.
