News Release July 24 – 26, 2023

Wanted Person Arrested

On July 24, 2023, at about 11:30AM in the area of Pearl St. W., police located a 45-year-old, male, known to be wanted for theft. The theft took place on July 22, 2023, where the male subject stole $101.75 worth of alcohol, from the LCBO on King St. W. The male was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.00 along with three counts of breach probation. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Shoplifter Charged After Obstructing the Police Investigation

On July 25, 2023, at about 5:30PM, police received a call to attend the SuperStore on Parkedale Ave., regarding a shoplifter. Police attended and learned that a female had attended and concealed approximately $300.00 worth of various merchandise in bags and made no attempt to pay. It was discovered that the female was giving police a false name in hopes to avoid charges. Investigation revealed the actual identity of the 31-year-old, female. She was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and obstruct peace officer. She was released with a future court date.

 

News Release July 19 – 24, 2023

Arrest Warrant Executed

On July 23, 2023, at about 9:00AM, an officer from the Brockville Police Service, observed a 35-year-old, male, known to be wanted. The male was known to have a warrant for a charge of failing to comply with probation. This was a breach of a condition to abstain from communicating with a victim from a previous offence. In fact, police had evidence of an additional breach of the condition on a separate day. When the officers located the male in the area of King St. W., they went to place the him under arrest. The male was not cooperative and the subject resisted the arrest. The male was taken to the ground and into custody. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. The male was held in for a bail hearing for the offences of resist arrest and three counts of failing to comply with probation.

 

Neighbour Dispute Results in Assault Charges

On July 21, 2023, at about 10:45PM, police received a call regarding a two neighbours in an altercation in the area of Glenn Wood Pl. Investigation revealed that during the dispute, one of the neighbours, identified to be a 54-year-old, male, actually entered into the other’s residence. Once he entered, he initiated a fight and assaulted the male resident. The wife of the victim attempted to intervene and she was assaulted as well by the subject grabbing her arm and twisting her wrist. Once the subject learned that the police were notified, he subject fled. On July 22, 2023, at about 10:00PM, police located the subject and placed him under arrest for unlawfully in a dwelling and two counts of assault. He was released on conditions and a future court date. Any injuries are described as non-life-threatening.

 

Impaired Driving

On July 21, 2023, at about 9:30PM, police received a call of a male appearing to have been in a motor vehicle collision in the area of Clarissa St. Information about the incident was that the subject appeared very intoxicated, there was smoke coming from the vehicle and two tires were flat. Bystanders actually had taken the keys prior to police arrival. Assistance from Brockville Fire Department was requested due to the presence of smoke. When police arrived they discovered that the driver was a 60-year-old, male. He was displaying obvious signs of impairment and was arrested. The smoke was due to the clutch on the vehicle burning and the flat tires were confirmed, however, the cause as to how they flattened was unknown. The arrested driver was taken to the Brockville Police Service for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert. It was confirmed that he was under the influence of drugs. Officers also discovered that the male was in possession of a quantity of fentanyl. The vehicle was towed, driver’s licence was suspended and he was released once sober after being charged with impaired operation by drugs.        

 

Warrants

On July 20, 2023, at about 11:00AM, police received a report of a theft from the LCBO on Parkedale Ave. Investigation revealed that a 33-year-old, female, had entered the store and stole $121.35 worth of merchandise. She had left the scene but was identified and an arrest warrant requested. On July 21, 2023, at about 9:15PM, the subject was located and arrested for theft under $5,000.00 and failing to comply with two different probation orders. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Suspect of Multiple Thefts Arrested

On July 19th and 21st, 2023, two thefts had taken place at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Parkedale Ave. A 28-year-old, male, was identified as the subject responsible for the thefts. The thefts consisted of approximately $8,000.00 worth of various fragrances being taken. The subject was also on probation with a condition to abstain from attending Shoppers Drug Mart. On July 22, 2023, at about 11:45PM, the subject had returned to Shoppers Drug Mart and was located there and arrested. He was held in custody for two counts of theft under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation.

News Release July 19 – 20, 2023

Wanted Person Arrested

On July 19, 2023 at about 2:00PM, an officer from the Brockville Police Service located a 34-year-old, female, who had an arrest warrant for failing to attend court. The female failed to attend court regarding previous charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking fentanyl. She was arrested and later released with future court date for the charge.

 

Wanted Male on the Ledge of an Overpass

On July 20, 2023 at about 8:30AM, police received a call of a 27-year-old, male, sitting on the ledge of the North Augusta Rd and 401 overpass. Officers attended and located the male in question. He was no longer on the ledge, however, officers spoke to him to check on his well-being. It was then learned that the male had a warrant for his arrest regarding a charge of failing to comply with probation. The male was arrested and held for a bail hearing.

 

Warrant of Committal

On July 20, 2023 at about 6:30PM, police spoke with a 57-year-old, male, who attended to the front desk of the Brockville Police Service. The male attended to the police station on an unrelated matter. While there, officers learned that he had a warrant of committal regarding the offence of driving while under suspension. It specifically stated he was to be taken custody and transported to the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. The warrant was held by the Hawkesbury OPP. They attended and took custody of the subject and transported him to the Detention Centre.

 

Arrest Made on Theft of a Bicycle

On July 16, 2023 at about 1:15PM, police received information regarding the theft of a bicycle from a residence on Park St. Investigation revealed that there was video surveillance footage of the male committing the theft. The male was identified to be a 39-year-old, male. On July 20, 2023 at about 10:30PM, the male subject was located in the area of William St. The officer arrested the male and charged him with theft under $5,000.00. He was released shortly after with a future court date.   

 

News Release July 15 – 16, 2023

Motor Vehicle Collision with Cyclist

 

On July 15, 2023 at about 3:45PM, police received a call regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist on Water St. Officers attended and it was revealed that a 24-year-old, male, cyclist, was traveling southbound on Home St. approaching Water St. The cyclist proceeded through the intersection and into oncoming traffic. He collided with a pickup truck hauling a trailer. The cyclist was dragged for several feet and as a result, suffered very serious injuries. He was transported to Kingston General Hospital by Paramedics. The male is in recovery there with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The OPP, Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, were contacted to assist and the scene was protected by the Brockville Police Service. The investigation was completed and the scene was released around Midnight. No charges have been issued at this time. The investigating officer will wait to gather all information before determining an appropriate charge, if any.    

 

Wanted Person Arrested

On July 16, 2023 at about 6:30AM, police received a complaint of yelling and shouting coming from a residence in the area of Central Ave. Information was that it sounded like an argument. Officers attended the area and found everything to be calm on arrival. Police did speak with a 24-year-old, female, who was found to be wanted for failing to attend court on two counts of failing to comply with probation. She was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.   

News Release July 11 – 13, 2023

Fire Scene at 109 Perth St.

The Brockville Police Service is advising that the the crime scene at the 109 Perth St. has been lifted as the Ontario Fire Marshal has completed their work at the scene. The property is still deemed to be unsafe to enter and is fenced off. We ask people to be mindful of this. The investigation into the many concerns surrounding the fire is still ongoing. We ask for your patience while investigators continue to work diligently on this case. If anyone from the public has information regarding this incident, we ask that you contact the Brockville Police Service, attention Detective Graham Coe. We also want to recognize the incredible work performed by the Brockville fire Department. Without their fast response and hard work, this incident could have been catastrophic. They continued with their efforts the days following the events on Monday morning and for that, we are grateful. We should also recognize the many City of Brockville staff who came together to have the area cleaned up and to be opened to the public.     

 

Impaired Care and Control

On July 12, 2023 at about 3:00PM, police received multiple calls regarding a possible impaired person entering into a transport truck, in the Walmart parking lot. The 22-year-old male, from Brampton, was seen exiting Walmart and showing signs of impairment. The officer attended to the truck and located the male in the driver’s seat. The male was arrested for operation while impaired. He was taken to the Brockville Police Service where breath testing was performed. It was confirmed that he was impaired. His driver’s licence was suspended, truck was impounded and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg.

Structure Fire Scene – AVOID AREA

On July 10, 2023 at about 2:00AM, Brockville Police Service and Brockville Fire Dept., received a report of a large structure fire, located at 109 Perth St. Emergency services attended and blocked the area on Perth St. from Brock St. to Pearl St. and the John St. area. Unfortunately, the fire spread to multiple other residences in the area. Many homes have been evacuated and residents are displaced. We are asking the public to please avoid the area so emergency services can can restore safety.

News Release July 3 – 5, 2023

Motor Vehicle Collision Update

Yesterday, July 5, 2023, police released information regarding a pedestrian involved motor vehicle collision on Stewart Blvd and the 401 overpass. The vehicle struck a 22-year-old, female, pedestrian, who remains in hospital in serious condition. The collision was investigated with the assistance of the OPP, Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. No charges have been laid at this time as the events of the collision are still under investigation. This investigation required Stewart Blvd to be closed between Parkedale Ave and Central Ave, which caused severe traffic congestion in the city. During this congestion, police were overwhelmed with reports of multiple other collisions that were a drain on emergency service resources. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in those collisions. It was unfortunate to see an observed increase in driver impatience during this difficult time. Leeds Grenville Paramedics and the Brockville Fire Department, should be recognized for their efforts in yesterday’s events.   

 

Domestic Disturbance

On July 3, 2023 at about 6:00PM, police received a call regarding a domestic dispute in the area of Millwood Ave. Investigation revealed that the 23-year-old, male, had struck his partner in the face. Injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The male was arrested for assault and released on conditions with a future court date.

Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation

Today at about 11:30AM, police received a call of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Stewart Blvd and the 401. The investigation is still ongoing. The pedestrian is suffering from serious injuries. Currently, southbound lanes on Stewart Blvd are shutdown at Parkedale Ave. Northbound lanes are reduced on Stewart Blvd at Central Ave. These lanes will also be shutdown to complete the investigation with the assistance of the OPP, Technical Traffic Collision Investigator. Traffic is highly congested and the estimated time of reopening is unknown. Please avoid the area.

News Release June 30 – July 2, 2023

Suspicious Person in Possession of a Knife

On June 30, 2023 at about 10:00AM, police received a call of a suspicious person looking through windows of a residence, while in possession of a knife, in the area of Murray St. Officers attended and located the 18-year-old, male, subject. When police approached him, he fled on foot through the neighbourhood. A short distance later, one of the officer’s located the subject. He was controlled after a safe and successful deployment of the conducted energy weapon (TASER). Other officers attended to assist with the arrest and while handcuffing the subject, he began grabbing officer’s hands, duty belts and equipment. Officers observed exhibited symptoms of excited delirium by the subject. As a result, he was taken to the Brockville General Hospital. Once his review was completed, he was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and disarming a peace officer.  

 

Impaired Driving

On July 1, 2023 at about 12:15AM, officers were taking part in a R.I.D.E. program for the Canada Day long weekend. At that time, they located a 35-Year-old, woman, operating her vehicle in the area of Stewart Blvd. Alcohol was detected and a roadside breath sample resulted in a fail. The female was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. Those tests confirmed that she was driving while impaired. As a result her driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg.

 

Break and Enter

On July 1, 2023 at about 10:00PM, police received a call of a break and enter at a residence on Crawford St. The home owner came home to find that his home had been broken into and the suspect was currently inside. The suspect was startled and fled the area. During the investigation the suspect was quickly identified to be a 38-year-old, male. Officers responded and searched the area. The male was located shortly after and was arrested in the rear of a property on King St. E. As a result of the occurrence the male was charged with break and enter, mischief and three counts of fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Theft

On July 2, 2023 at about 3:30PM, police received a call regarding a female who had broken into one of the laundry machines, at the Pearl Street Coin Laundry, and stole clothing items. Video surveillance identified the suspect to be a 28-year-old, female. The female was later located and arrested for the offences of theft under $5,000.00, mischief under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation. She was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Domestic Dispute

On July 2, 2023 at about 10:00PM, police received a report of a domestic dispute that took place moments prior at a residence on Laurier Blvd. Investigation revealed that a 31-year-old, male, had assaulted his girlfriend by throwing her to the ground and striking her with clothing hangers. This all took place in the presence of children. As a result, the male subject was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.   

News Release June 27 – 29, 2023

Shoplifting

On June 16, 2023 at about 6:30PM, police received a report of a theft that had taken place at the Sensual Boutique store, located on King St. W. Investigation revealed that approximately $800.00 worth of merchandise was taken from the store. The suspect was identified to be a 68-year-old, male. On June 27, 2023 at about 9:15PM, the male subject in question was located and arrested. He was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Intoxicated Person Arrested During a Disturbance

On June 27, 2023 at about 9:30PM, police received a call of a disturbance in the area of James St. E. and Victoria Ave. Police arrived and found two males in a heated argument as they were yelling and swearing at one another. One of the males was identified to be a 22-year-old, male. He was intoxicated by alcohol and began to make threatening comments. As he grew more agitated, he was placed under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place. His antics of yelling and shouting continued throughout most of the night, while in police custody. He was held in custody until sober and released after being charged with public intoxication.

 

Threats and Weapon Possession

On June 29, 2023 at about 12:30AM, police received a call of a male in the area of Court House Ave., trying to enter a vehicle and brandishing a knife to people. Police arrived on scene and located and arrested a 36-year-old, male, responsible for the incident. Investigation revealed that the subject had approached a male with a few friends in that area. The subject requested to look inside the victim’s vehicle and wanted to get inside. The owner did not allow the subject to get in the vehicle and asked him to leave. The subject then brandished a knife to the group. The subject was pushed back and the victims kept their distance to stay safe. The victims were chased and threatened to be killed. The group was able to get in the vehicle and away to safety where they notified police. As previously stated, the male subject had been taken into custody. After his arrest a quantity of crystal meth was also located in his possession. The male subject was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, uttering threats and two counts fail to comply with probation.  

 

Bail Violations

On June 29, 2023 at about 00:15, an officer from the Brockville Police Service located a 42-year-old, male, in the area of Pearl St. W. The male was found to be on undertaking conditions with a curfew; to be in his residence between the hours of 11:00PM and 6:00AM. When the officer approached him the male fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit the male was arrested. This male is known to have a violent past and was held in custody for a bail hearing and charged with fail to comply with undertaking, breach of recognizance, and three counts of fail to comply with probation. 

 

Break and Enter Suspect Arrested After Locating a Stolen Vehicle

On June 29, 2023 at about 9:00PM, police learned of a break and enter that occurred at a Winmar, located on California Ave. There was property taken and a vehicle stolen from the business as well. Information was received that indicated the stolen vehicle was at an address on County Rd. 27. Officers attended the address and located the vehicle in question. When officers arrived, the driver reversed the vehicle causing it to collide with the police cruiser causing minor damage. The suspect then fled the scene. The OPP were notified of the incident and provided assistance. The vehicle was located, abandoned, a short distance later. As police continued to search, an officer from the OPP located the 34-year-old, male, subject. Further investigation linked him to the break and enter previously mentioned. He was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of break and enter, theft of motor vehicle, flight from police, mischief, two counts of fail to comply with probation, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and theft under $5,000.00.
