Guilty? Not Guilty? Hard to Say!

Brockville Collegiate and Thousand Islands law students will come to grips with the reality of the criminal justice system in a mock trial where student, Crystal Carr, faces a lengthy term of imprisonment for trafficking in the outlawed drug of heroin. The student jury will be faced with difficult issues of witness credibility, which will point them to their verdict.

On April 9, 2014 a Walmart loss prevention officer watched as a male customer selected numerous items in Walmart, then leaving the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. The loss prevention officer was able to apprehend the suspect and police were notified at 6:45 p.m. The merchandise had a value of over $100. The 46 year old Prescott man was charged with theft and released with a future court date.

A James Street East family was awakened by their barking dogs at 3:08 a.m. on April 10, 2014. While investigating the cause of the barking a male youth was located sleeping on the porch of the home. Police were called and escorted the extremely intoxicated youth home to his mother. No charges were laid.

On April 10th 2014 the Brockville Police in cooperation with Brockville and Area Special Olympics, Crimestoppers, Upper Canada District School Board, Catholic District School Board and Riverside Ford will be reviving the Jail and Bail fundraiser. Bill Loshaw, Don Lewis, John Healy, Scot Birnie and Andy Wheeler will be arrested and lodged in a cell at the 1000 Island Mall (near SEARS). They will be required to raise bail funds in order to be released from custody. The event starts at noon and the cell is expected to be filled by 1 pm. Please drop by the mall between 1 pm and 3 pm and support this cause. Both Crimestoppers and Special Olympics will have information booths set up in order to draw attention and awareness to their role in our community.

Assisting in the arrests will be a surprise Chief for Day. She will also become the judge deciding who stays and who is released!

It is anticipated that Andy Wheeler will be located wandering a street somewhere in the City!

Sometime during the 6th to the 8th of April, 2014 unknown suspects entered a pickup truck parked, unattended on Schofield Avenue. Sixty to seventy dollars of change was stolen. An oxygen bottle in the truck was emptied. The truck had been left unlocked at the time, it was not damaged.

Police remind the public that with nicer weather on the way these types of thefts tend to increase. Please keep your vehicles locked as a deterrent.

On the 7th of April 2014 at 12:30 pm the Brockville Police responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Bartholomew Street. Two adult males aged 18 and 20 were armed with a machete and a hatchet and threatening the occupants of the residence.

Upon officers arrival the two accused males were located inside the residence and placed under arrest for uttering threats and a number of assault and weapons offences. They are scheduled to appear in court later today for a bail hearing.

Two hatchet type weapons and a machete were recovered by police at the scene. A male occupant of the residence suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

Brockville Police attended a First Avenue residence on April 3, 2014 as the result of a 911 hang up call. Police learned that at approximately 2:00 p.m. a male suspect was involved in an argument with a female resident of that address. Brockville Police responded to a report of a male subject being stabbed during an altercation in the area of Pearl St W and William St. at approximately 11:55 a.m. on the 1st of April, 2014. Police have determined there was an altercation between two persons known to each other.

One male 19 years of age of Brockville is charged with Assault with a Weapon. A second male 19 years of age of Brockville is charged with Assault and Utter Threats.

Both persons suffered minor injuries. Both persons have been released and will appear in court the 9th of May, 2014.

On March 29, 2014 at 8:20 p.m. Brockville Police received a complaint of a truck, trailer and Kubota tractor leaving from behind Winners on Parkedale Avenue. With the assistance of GPS the Ontario Provincial Police were able to locate the truck, stolen tractor and 2 suspects in the Ivy Lea area. Two Brighton Ontario males, aged 34 and 49 have been charged with theft over and possession of break-in instruments. The suspects are to appear in bail court on March 31, 2014. The tractor is valued over $20,000.
