On Friday July 22nd, 2022 shortly after 10am the Brockville Police were contacted by staff at the Waste Management Landfill and Recycling Facility on California Ave in Brockville after an unidentified deceased female was located within their recycling sorting facility. Officers from the Brockville Police Service including members of the Criminal Investigations office attended to the site and located the female amongst a load of cardboard which had been transferred to the Brockville site from another waste transfer site in Eastern Ontario.
Officers contained the scene and vehicles involved and requested the assistance of the East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Forensic Identification Unit. With the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit the deceased was positively identified as a female in her thirties from the Napanee-Belleville-Trenton area. Next of kin have been located and notified and at the request of the family her identity will not be released.
Yesterday at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, a forensic post mortem examination was conducted with officers from the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Brockville Police Service in attendance. Investigators now await the completion of further tests before the post mortem report is complete.
Investigating officers are in contact with other police agencies in an effort to determine how the young women arrived at the Brockville facility. At present, there is no information to suggest there is any risk to members of the public.
