Domestic Arrests
Two men were arrested over the weekend in separate domestic incidents in the city.
At 5:45 p.m. Friday evening Brockville Police attended a Daniel Street residence after the victim, a 35 year old Brockville woman, called police saying she and her common-law husband were involved in an argument that turned physical. She told 911 communicators she had been struck in the back of the head with an unidentified object and suffered minor injuries as a result.
When police were arriving at the residence they noticed the 42 year old male resident of the house leaving in his vehicle and attempted to perform a traffic stop. The man continued on, ignoring the police car attempting the stop and police discontinued the pursuit a short distance later because of the snow covered road conditions at the time.
Approximately one hour later the man attended to the Brockville Police Service and surrendered himself into police custody. He is now facing charges of assault with a weapon and flight from police and was held in custody for a bail hearing.
At 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning officers were called to the Holiday Inn Express on a report of a domestic disturbance taking place in one of the rooms. When officers arrived the involved persons had been separated by friends at the hotel and were awaiting police to arrive.
When officers arrived they learned a 39 year old Athens area man and his girlfriend had been arguing during the evening about problems they were having in their relationship when things turned physical. Friends at the hotel were able to bring the woman into another hotel room while locking the man in the hallway until police arrived.
Officers interviewed the witnesses and the 35 year old victim and as a result arrested the man for assault, choking and uttering threats. He was taken into custody and also held for a bail hearing.
