Theft of Cell phone and Computer
A 32 year old Brockville man and his 20 year old girlfriend are in custody this morning in relation to a theft of a cell phone and laptop computer from a 15 year old youth at the Brockville Library on Sunday.
Yesterday morning at 930 a.m. Brockville Police received a call from a man calling on behalf of the victim, who recently moved to Brockville after coming to Canada from Syria. The caller reported that the 15 year old was at the library Sunday from 2-4pm and had a low battery on his phone. He placed the phone on the charging station at the library and when he returned a short time later it was gone. He then returned to his work station where he had been doing work on his computer only to discover it also had disappeared while he was searching for his phone.
The victim and the police attended to the library to confirm the area of the library where the theft took place. Investigators then reviewed the surveillance video and later identified the couple as the responsible persons. They were located and arrested in connection to the theft as well as breaching their bail conditions they had previously released on for previous charges and held in custody pending a bail hearing today.
