Arrest Made in Impaired Driving Incident
On August 23, 2024, at about 11:45pm, police received a 911 call in regards to a motor vehicle collision, in the area of King St. W. and Court House Ave. Information was that the vehicle had struck a curb in front of City Hall causing the vehicle to lose a wheel. The vehicle then struck a pole and continued on, to then stop at the intersection of King St. W. and Court House Ave., at which point the driver of the vehicle fell asleep. Witnesses were able to wake her up and got the vehicle moved to the side of the roadway and took the keys.
Officers arrived and identified the driver to be a 46-year-old, female. After speaking with the female driver, she was placed under arrest for impaired operations. She was transported to the Brockville Police Service for further testing, which confirmed that she was impaired by alcohol. The vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence seized and she was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. She was released on conditions and a future court date.
Intimate Partner Violence
On August 25, 2024, at about 3:15pm, police received a 911 regarding a disturbance of a male screaming at a female in the area of Park St. and Front Ave. It was stated that the male was observed leaving the area. Officers attended the scene and spoke to the female involved. Investigation revealed that the two individuals were in a relationship, and involved in an argument. This argument escalated to the point that the 26-year-old, male began throwing items at the female victim. The victim had minor non-life-threatening, injuries. It was also learned that the male was on probation and a release order with bail conditions; to abstain from communicating with the victim, in relation to a previous domestic disturbance.
Shortly after, police received information that the male involved was in the area of Oxford Ave., agitated and holding a knife to his neck. Officers quickly responded and luckily were able to diffuse the situation. The male eventually calmed, and was taken into custody. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation.
