News Release – November 4 – 6, 2024

Intimate Partner Violence Leads to Arrest

On November 5, 2024, at about 11:30am, police received a 911 call from a female advising that she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. Police responded to the area of King St. W. and Gilmour St. and located the victim, however, the 24-year-old, male subject, fled. Investigation revealed that the female was sitting in her vehicle in a parking lot when the male approached her, striking the vehicle causing damage. A physical altercation ensued resulting in the male choking and her and holding her in a headlock. He eventually released her and began walking away and while doing so, threw rocks at her vehicle. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries.

On November 6, 2024, at about 4:30pm, police located and arrested the male subject in the area of Alwington St. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault, overcome resistance by choking, mischief under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation.

 

Officer Assaulted During a Family Dispute

On November 4, 2024, at about 2:00pm, police attended a residence on Dales Ave., regarding an altercation between a mother and daughter. When officers arrived, the located the 35-year-old, daughter. She was very emotional and attempting to cause self-harm, by tying the cord of a lamp around her neck. Officers then attempted to help her by apprehending her, preventing any harm and getting her connected to services for assistance. While that was happening, the female swung the lamp, striking one of the officers in their face. The officer received non-life-threatening injuries.

The female subject was arrested and charged with assaulting the officer with a weapon and failing to comply with her probation. She was released with a future court date and taken to the Brockville General Hospital and connected with services.
