Break and Enter at Downtown Store

On October 9, 2025, at about 3:45am, police received a two separate calls regarding the sound of glass breaking and an alarm, at the Shoppers Drug Mart on King Street West.

Officers responded quickly to find that a large window on the front of the store had been smashed. Officers entered into the store and cleared the building and found that no suspects were inside the building. Other damage to property inside the store was observed.

Video surveillance footage confirmed that three suspects, who were masked and wearing gloves, entered the store through the broken window. They attended the fragrance cabinet and smashed the glass to gain access to various, high priced fragrances. The suspects placed a quantity of the fragrances into what appeared to be a garbage bag, and fled approximately two minutes later. Police held the crime scene for processing by a Forensic Identification officer, who collected several important pieces of evidence. The total approximate value of the theft is not yet known; however, it is believed to be substantial as high valued, brand named fragrances were targeted.

The investigation is active and ongoing. If anyone has any information regarding this occurrence, they can report it to the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or alternatively at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Disturbance Results in Arrest

On October 8, 2025, at about 8:00am, police received a report of a male subject who seemed disoriented, banging on store windows, acting erratic and described as aggressive towards people in the area of King Street West. As police approached the area, they were waved down by multiple people who were pointing the subject out.

Police located the subject, who was later identified to be a 25-year-old, male and on probation. He was shirtless and walking away to avoid the officers. He fled a short distance and then sat in the middle of King Street, westbound lane. As officers approached to take him into custody, the male then fled on foot, resulting in a foot chase. The subject ran into the Richard’s Coffee House, where he caused damage to a screen door. The officers caught the male inside the coffee shop, and as he was resisting the arrest, he was taken to the ground to be controlled. The subject did receive minor, non-life-threatening injuries, that can be described as a small cut sustained during the fall.

After the arrest, the subject was charged with causing a disturbance, mischief under $5,000.00, resist peace officer and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Hold and Secure at Thousand Island Secondary School

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 11:00 am, police received a 911 call from staff at TISS regarding a potential threat. A student had reported that another youth was waiting outside the school with the intent to harm them, and was in possession of a firearm. Although no firearm had been seen at that time, school staff responded promptly and placed the school in a hold-and-secure.

Police officers arrived on scene, secured access to the property, and began a thorough search for any potentially armed individuals. The youth identified in the report was eventually located. Upon investigation, it was determined that the claim of firearm possession was significantly exaggerated. The situation stemmed from a frightening rumor that was misinterpreted as a credible threat. No weapon was observed, and the youth in question was not found to be in possession of any type of weapon.

While police strongly encourage the public to report any concerns involving potential threats, we also urge individuals to ensure that the information provided is accurate and truthful. Responses to such incidents require substantial resources and can cause unnecessary fear and disruption within the community.
