Mischief

Over the past two weeks the Brockville Police Service has been investigating a string of mischiefs in the north end of the city.  On June 1^st, 2020 police arrested a 39 year old male from Brockville responsible for the damage.  Officers had responded to reports of tires being slashed in the Kensington Parkway and Cartier Court area since May 19^th.  The accused faces two counts of mischief under $5000 and was held pending a bail hearing on Tuesday.

Break and Enter

On Tuesday, May 26th, 2020, the Brockville Police were called to a break and enter that occurred on Buell Street.  The break in occurred during daylight hours and when the homeowner was present.  The suspect is described as an agile young male between 13 and 17 years old, approximately 5’4” with wavy brown hair.  The Brockville Police remind you to keep your doors locked. 

Arrest Warrant

On May 26^th, 2020 the Brockville Police were called to a noise complaint at a King Street address.  As a result officers located a 38 year old Brockville man who was wanted for not abiding by his judicial release order.  He was held for a bail hearing.

Assault with a Weapon

On the 22nd of May, 2020 the Brockville Police received report of an altercation in the downtown area.  Just after 6pm officers located a 26 year old man suffering the effects of being pepper sprayed in the face.  Police learned a 26 year old Smiths Falls man was responsible and are currently seeking a warrant for his arrest.  The two parties appear to have a history and the attack was not a random incident.

Impaired Operation

On May 24th, 2020 around 89:30 pm, the Brockville Police received a call of a possibly impaired driver at the Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Upon arrival police located a 51 year old Brockville resident behind the wheel of a Dodge SUV.  The driver was arrested after he failed the approved screening device.  He subsequently provided breath samples more than twice the legal limit.  He was charged with operating a conveyance with more than 80mg of alcohol in his blood, and as a result his licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed for seven days.

Fail to Stop

On the 8^th of May 2020 at 9:43 p.m. officers were in the area of the Circle K Convenience store on King St. West when they observed a motorcycle being operated without licence plates.  Officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the driver fled north bound on Perth St. at a high rate of speed.  CCTV footage was obtained of the suspect and motorcycle.  The driver is described as a white male wearing a black helmet, black jacket, light coloured pants.  The motorcycle is a sport bike, blue and silver possibly a 750cc or larger.

Barricaded Subject

On May 19^th, 2020 just before 10:00 pm the Brockville Police Service responded to a noise complaint on Millwood Avenue.  Upon arrival police recognized the male and female involved.  The 30 year old male was on conditions from a previous release order to not be at that residence.  He barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom with a weapon.  The male made threats to harm himself and police.  The Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team along with the Ontario Provincial Police East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit were able to negotiate a peaceful surrender almost five hours after the incident began.  As a result the male from Prescott was charged with Domestic assault, mischief under $5000 and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a judicial release order.  He was held for a bail hearing.

Impaired

On the 19^th of May 2020 at 10:15 p.m. an officer on routine patrol observed a motor vehicle being driven on California Ave.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to be intoxicated by alcohol.  The male was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operate a conveyance with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Warrants

On May 16^th 2020 the Brockville Police attended a south end apartment for reports of a family dispute.  The investigation led to the arrest of a 33 year old Belleville man.  The accused had a warrant from Brockville for failing to comply with probation.  He was also wanted by the Belleville Police for domestic violence related charges.  He was processed and released by Brockville, and turned over to the Belleville Police to deal with his warrant.

Threats

On the night of May 18, 2020 a 39 year old accused male and a female victim had been drinking at the victim’s residence at a residence in the center of the city.  The two parties engaged in a heated argument which resulted in the male leaving the residence.  The male returned later that day and threatened the victim, but left prior to police arrival.  The male was later located by police, arrested and charged with uttering threats.  The male has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

Bail Violations

On May 17^th at 4:18 a.m. police on routine patrol observed a 30 year old male on Georgina Street who was out of his residence contrary to his release conditions.  The male was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his officer in charge undertaking.  He was released from custody and given a future court date.

Other calls

Officers were also kept busy over the long weekend with 5 mental health apprehensions, 5 domestic disputes, 6 motor vehicle accidents and 13 suspicious person complaints and 13 traffic complaints.

Driving

Just after midnight on May 15^th, 2020 the Brockville Police observed a vehicle on Stewart Boulevard at an extremely high speed.  A 26 year old male from Lyn was behind the wheel when police caught up with him.  The radar registered 138 km/hr in the 60 km/hr zone.  As a result the driver was charged with stunt driving for being 50 km/hr above the speed limit, his car was impounded for seven days and his licence automatically suspended for seven days.  In addition the driver was also charged for not having plates or insurance on the vehicle.

Drugs

On May 15^th, 2020 at 01:30 hours the Brockville Police observed a male lying on the sidewalk near King Street West and John Street.  When the 28 year old noticed an officer approaching, he threw several items out of his pocket.  Police recovered drugs believed to be fentanyl, crystal meth and cocaine.  He was charged with three counts of possession of a substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  The Brockville resident of no fixed address was released from custody with a future court date.

Theft

On May 13^th, 2020 the Brockville Police arrested a 30 year old female for shoplifting at the Metro on King St.  After being approached by store security the female became assaultive and punched and kicked the employee.  As a result she was charged with theft under $5000 and assault.  The accused was also on probation and was charged with breaching her probation order.

Less than an hour after being released from custody, police were again called to deal with her.  Staff at Dollarama observed the female concealing items in her bag.  She left from the store and made no attempt to pay.  She was again located and arrested by police.  She faces additional charges for the theft.  She was again released from custody.

Theft

On May 11^th, 2020 at 8:55 p.m. a 31 year old male attempted to leave the Superstore on Parkedale Ave. with $1200 worth of merchandise.  When the male was confronted he fled on foot, but was arrested a short distance away.  The male was on a previous release condition with a 7:00 p.m. curfew.  He was charged with theft under $5000 and breach of a bail condition.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Drugs

On May 9^th, 2020 the Brockville Police arrested a 40 year old female on King Street.  The accused had been stopped for a Highway traffic Act offense.  The investigation led to the seizure of multiple drugs, including opiates.  As a result the accused was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, as well as a Highway Traffic Act charge for driving while under suspension.

PAWS Act

Police attended an address on Row Place on April 26th 2020 at 8:46 a.m.  Officers were dispatched for an unrelated occurrence, but while at the residence they discovered a total of 10 adult dogs and 16 juvenile dogs.  The officers were concerned about the living conditions of the animals and the care being given so they were seized. The dogs were turned over to Animal Welfare Services with the Ministry of Solicitor General. 

A 42 year old male was charged with five charges under the Provincial Animal Welfare Act (PAWS):

1) Adult causing distress

2) 4 counts of adult standard of care

The animals have been returned to the male and the majority have been either adopted or sold.   The male’s charges are still before the courts.
