July 10 – 13, 2020 News Release

Thefts

The Brockville Police Service has responded to a rash of thefts from vehicles over the past weekend.  These thefts typically occur during the early morning hours.  The thieves’ primary targets are vehicles that are left insecure.  There were 7 thefts reported over the weekend and all were contained to the downtown area.

Theft of motor vehicle

On July 12th at 11:54 AM the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a downtown residence.  The vehicle was a 2017 Dodge Caravan and was later involved in a fail to remain accident on Perth St. 

The accident occurred at 2:53 PM. The service received several 911 calls about a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Perth St. losing control and hitting a pole by the train station.  The vehicle left the scene only to be recovered abandoned a short distance away.  Hydro crews had to be called out to repair the damaged pole.

The accident investigation and the theft of the motor vehicle are ongoing.  A suspect has been identified in the theft and will be charged when located.

Public Intoxication

On the 13th of July 2020 at 12:48 PM a 44 year old male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.  The male was located on Charles St. and arrested for his own safety.  He was transported to the police station and lodged in a cell until sober. 

Warrants

A 28 year old female was arrested on her outstanding committal warrant on the 13th of July at 2:20 AM.  The female was arrested by the Smiths Falls Police Service and then turned over to the Brockville police.  She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Theft

On June 13th 2020 the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a theft from a parked vehicle that had occurred sometime the previous night.  A 49 year old suspect was identified in that theft. 

Officers located the male on July 11th at 11:58 AM on King St. West.  He was arrested without incident being charged with fail to comply with probation, possession of property obtained by crime and using a stolen credit card.  He was released with a future court date.

Drugs

On July 11th at 6:30 PM officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the downtown area.  The vehicle as stopped at Bethune St. and King St. East.  A 31 year old male was arrested for being in possession of cocaine.  He was charged with being in possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and released with a future court date.

Bail Violations

A 61 year old male was arrested on the 11th of July at 7:10 PM for breach a release condition.  The male was located at a downtown address contrary to his release conditions.  He was arrested without incident and later released with a future court date.

Home Invasion

On July 12th at 2:30 AM officers from the Brockville Police Service responded to what was described as a “Home Invasion”.  The caller stated that a numbers of suspects had forced their way into his apartment on Kensington Parkway.  The suspects restrained the victim and robbed him.  The victim had minor injuries as a result of the incident. The suspects left the victim and fled in light coloured SUV.

Bail violations

 On July 12th at 4:34 AM a 46 year old male was arrested for breaching a bail condition.  The male was located outside of his residence despite being on a curfew until 6:00 AM.  He was arrested in the downtown area, charged and released.   

Warrants

 A 43 year old male was arrested on Friday afternoon by the Brockville Police.  The male was wanted by Gatineau Police for a domestic incident.  Gatineau requested our assistance with identifying and arresting the male.  Our officers were able to identify the male and located him at a residence on King St. West.  He was arrested and then turned over to Gatineau Police for their investigation.

Public Intoxication

On July 10th at 6:15 PM police were contacted about a 57 year old male that appeared to be asleep on a park bench on King St. West.  The male was located and found to be in an intoxicated state.  Officers attempted to locate friends and family that would care for the male, but were unsuccessful.  He was then arrested and lodged at the station until sober.

Disturb the Peace

On July 10th at 9:00 PM police were called to an apartment on Cartier Court for a disturbance.  A 31 year old male was arrested at the scene after engaging in an altercation with a neighbour.  The male was on a probation order with the condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.  He was charged and released when sober with a future court date.

 

Downtown Enforcement:

 

On Friday night 5 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act with our continued enforcement of illegal exhaust and noise in the downtown core.  There was significantly less traffic due to the weather. 

July 9 – 10, 2020 News Release

Drugs

In a joint forces operation, six people are facing charges after the Brockville Police Service alongside the Ontario Provincial Police executed a search warrant at 69 King St. East. 

The joint forces operation executed a search warrant using the Emergency Response Team that resulted in the seizure of a quantity of crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, oxycodone pills and weapons including a switch blade knife.   Also seized were a motor vehicle and a large quantity of Canadian currency.

Four people were arrested at the scene and two individuals were arrested in the vehicle. 

Andrew Beauregard, 43 years of age, was charged with 4 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,   He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Also charged, but released:

  • 53 year old female – possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with a bail condition
  • 49 year old male – charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • 62 year old male – 4 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • 51 year old female – 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation
  • 40 year old male – possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

Their names cannot be released until the information is sworn to.

Public Intoxication

A 43 year old male was arrested at the Brockville General Hospital for being intoxicated in a public place.  The male was arrested shortly after midnight when staff at the hospital called police to deal with the male.  He was held in custody until sober and charged with being intoxicated in a public place.   

Downtown Enforcement

Officers conducting the downtown enforcement initiative were advised of a male passed out at Cunningham Park.  The officers located a 41 year old male who had set up residence in the park.  He was moved along and cleaned up his campsite. 

The officers stopped a vehicle shortly after 10 PM on King St. West.  The vehicle was occupied by a 42 year old unlicensed driver and an 18 year old female.  The officers observed an open container of liquor in the vehicle and located a can of mace, brass knuckles and crystal methamphetamine.  The 42 year old male was charged with 2 counts of being in possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, drive motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, drive with cannabis readily accessible and prohibited drive.  The 18 year old female was not charged.

While conducting this traffic stop the officers were passed by a motor vehicle that had the wrong plates on it.  That vehicle was stopped and the 50 year old male driver along with the 43 year old male passenger are found to be in possession of a quantity of illicit drugs. 

The 50 year old driver was charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Use plates not authorized (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to wear seatbelt (Highway Traffic Act)

The 43 year old passenger was charged with:

  • 2 x possession of a controlled substance
  • Passenger fail to wear seatbelt (Highway Traffic Act)

July 7 – 8, 2020 News Release

Mischief:

A 23 year old male from Brockville has been charged with mischief and theft after he was observed smashing the window out of a parked vehicle on Victoria Avenue.  The male was also seen trying to open other vehicles.  He was located by police and arrested without incident on July 7th at 7:00 AM.  He has been charged with mischief, theft under $5000 and failing to comply with a probation order.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

 

Bail Violations:

A 23 year old male was located and arrested on Blockhouse Island as a warrant for his arrest had been issued.  The male was wanted for breaching his release conditions as he had failed to report as required.  He was located on July 7th, 2020 at 10:20 PM by officers who were on routine patrol.  He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

July 6 – 7, 2020 News Release

Missing Person Located

The Brockville Police are happy to report that the Peter Tielsch has been located safe and sound.  Thank you to all the public’s assistance in this investigation.

Weapons

A 19 year old male is facing multiple charges relating to an incident that occurred on July 5th, 2020 at 11:30 PM.  The complainant reported that they have had ongoing issues with the male suspect.  On this date, the male was blocking the complainant’s vehicle on Garden St.  He was approached by the complainant as this type of behaviour had been occurring for some time.  As the complainant approached the male he produced a knife and threatened to stab them.  The male left the area and police were contacted. 

The male was located on the 6th of July and arrested for the offences of uttering a threat and assault with a weapon.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

July 3 – 6, 2020 News Release

Threats:

On July 2nd, 2020 at 6:15 PM the Brockville Police Service received a threatening complaint that was domestic in nature.  The complainant reported that her former spouse had threatened to cause her physical harm.  The 39 year old male was not with the victim at the time of the complaint. He was located on the 5th of July by police on King St.  He was arrested without incident and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Public Intoxication:

On July 4th at 1:30 PM the Brockville Police Service received a 911 call about a male in Hardy Park who appeared to be intoxicated.  The caller was concerned for the male’s wellbeing.  The 57 year old male was located by police and arrested under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place.  He was held in custody until sober and issued a $55 dollar fine.

Downtown Enforcement Patrol:

On Friday and Saturday night the Brockville Police Service had a dedicated team of officers focusing on the city’s downtown.  Several charges were laid in relation to the enforcement.

  • 6 fines were issued under the Liquor Licence Act
    • having open alcohol
  • 11 fines under the Highway Traffic Act
    • Excessive noise
    • Improper muffler
    • Moving violations
    • Equipment related charges
    • Drive with child passenger not properly secured
  • 1 fine under the Smoke Free Ontario Act and several warnings
    • Smoking in a park

The extra patrols will continue this week.

July 2 – 3, 2020 News Release

Weapons Offense

A 39 year old Brockville woman was arrested following an incident on Windsor Drive early last evening. Brockville Police responded to a complaint of an altercation at a north end restaurant  at approximately 7:30 pm last evening. The participants in the altercation then fled the area and went north on Windsor Drive before being located by police.

Officers learned the woman pulled a baseball bat during the altercation and threatened to strike her 33 year old female victim. As a result, she was arrested and charged with Possession of Weapons Dangerous to the Public Peace. She was later released with conditions and given a future court date.

 

Focused Downtown Cannabis Enforcement

Last evening Brockville Police Patrol officers conducted focused patrol in the downtown corridor looking for Cannabis violations resulting in the following charges and warnings:

Moving Violations/Equipment: 6
Liquor Licence Act: 3
Smoking By-law in City Parks: 3
Loud Mufflers: 3
Cannabis Control Act: 2

Included in these charges was a group of youths who were located in Hardy Park drinking and smoking marijuana, as well as a group in a vehicle smoking marijuana in the parking lot area of the Henry Street boat ramp.

The Brockville Police will continue their Cannabis Enforcement patrol throughout the summer months focusing on identified problem areas throughout the city.

 

 

 

June 30 – July 2, 2020 News Release

Traffic Enforcement

Brockville Police conducted focused traffic enforcement in the downtown corridor on Tuesday evening between 8:30 – 9:30 pm targeting squealing tires, loud mufflers and speeders on the waterfront.

During this time, a 22 year old Brockville man was fined under the Highway Traffic Act for Unnecessary Noise for racing his engine multiple times in the Blockhouse Island and Water Street areas.

As the summer months are now upon us, officers will continue to be on the lookout for drivers operating their vehicles in a dangerous manner in the downtown and waterfront areas.

Theft and Breach Charges

A 20 year old Brockville man was arrested and held for bail today as result of a theft incident from last evening. Brockville Police were called to a north end hotel at approximately 8:30 pm last evening when an employee there called to report his gold necklace had been ripped from his neck and stolen from him while he was working.

The victim contacted police and followed the suspect at a distance until police arrived and took him into custody. At the time of the occurrence, the 20 year old male was at large on a probation order issued on June 24th.

As a result, he is now facing new charges of theft, assault and breaching his probation order.

Canada Day

Brockville Police responded to 55 calls for service over Canada Day, however most occurrences were relatively minor in nature. There were several noise and by-law complaints throughout the day of persons lighting off fireworks but no charges or arrests as a result of Canada Day celebrations. 

June 29 – 30, 2020 News Release

Unwanted Person

At approximately 5:20 a.m. Brockville Police responded to a downtown convenience store where staff had reported a male who had previously been inside the store and purchased some items was now asleep outside the store. On arrival officers located the 46 year old male who is known to police. A check revealed he was on probation with a curfew condition that he not be outside his residence during that time and as a result he was arrested and charged for breaching his probation conditions. He was later released.

Breach of Conditions

Brockville Police were called to a north end department store by the Loss Prevention Officer when she observed a women known to her from previous incidents at the department store back inside the premises.

When officers arrived, a 36 year old Brockville woman was located with the assistance of the Loss Prevention Officer  at the store. At the time she on release conditions not to attend the store as a result of a previous theft incident. She was arrested and taken into custody and held for bail.

Drug Trafficking Charges

Detectives with the Brockville Police Service have charged a 33 year old Brockville woman with trafficking Fentanyl in relation to a May incident at a residence in the city’s south end. Patrol officers originally attended the residence in May to assist EMS and learned the person being attended to may have used drugs. Detectives followed up the investigation and identified the young woman as the person responsible for bringing the drugs to the residence. She has been released with a future court date.

Missing Person – Peter Tielsh, 58

Missing Person

The Brockville Police are seeking information relating to a missing person.  Fifty eight year old Peter Tielsh was last seen at his residence Thursday morning (June 25).  He usually wears a sleeveless shirt, jean shorts and a baseball hat.  He has a moustache and walks with his head tilted back.  Anyone with information can contact Detective Constable Graham Coe.

 

June 25 – 26, 2020 News Release

Assault

On June 25th, 2020 at 3:30 PM the Brockville Police were called to the Brockville General Hospital for a patient that had assaulted staff.  A 25 year old male was arrested and charged with assault.  He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Theft/Arrest

On May 19th the Brockville Police Service investigated a theft from Rexall on Pearl St. West.  A 33 year old female was identified as a suspect.  She was located on June 25th at 1:45 PM and arrested.  She has been charged with theft under $5000 and three counts of breaching her probation.  She was released from custody with a future court date.
