July 29 – 31, 2020 News Release

Theft

The Brockville Police Service is seeking the assistance of the public in recovering a “stand up paddle board”.  The paddle board was taken from the Brockville Dive Shop on Water Street sometime overnight of the 29th of July.

Theft

A 48 year old male has been charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.  Police were called to the Real Canadian Superstore for a disturbance at 3:30 PM on the 30th of July.  The investigation led to a charge of theft for the male and a subsequent search led to the discovery of methamphetamines.  He was released with a future court date.

Long Weekend

July 29 – 30, 2020 News Release

Warrants

On July 29th at 7:41 AM a 46 year old female was arrested for an outstanding warrant from the OPP.  Officers were called to a suspicious female on Central Ave. West.  The officers located the female and discovered she had a warrant for her arrest.  She was arrested and turned over to the OPP.

Theft

A 28 year old male is facing a charge of being in possession of property obtained by crime.  The male was in possession of a stolen iPad.  The iPad was taken on the 29th of July out of the victim’s car.  The victim contacted police advising that he was contacted by the suspect asking for the “Apple ID” in order to reset the iPad.  The male arranged to meet the suspect and contacted police.  Officers located the male around 10:30 AM and arrested him for being in possession of the iPad.  He was charged and released with a future court date.

Warrants

A 32 year old male and a 36 year old male were arrested yesterday around 11:30 AM.  Both subjects had warrants out for their arrests. The 32 year old was arrested on an OPP warrant and the 36 year old was arrested on a Brockville warrant for failing to attend court.  The 32 year old was turned over to the OPP and the 36 year old was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Public Intoxication

 A 52 year old male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.  Officers were called to Pearl Street and John St. around 7:00 PM for reports of a male staggering and throwing beer cans.  The male was located and arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.  He was held in custody and released when sober.

 

July 27 – 29, 2020 News Release

Mental Health Apprehensions

Officers have been kept busy with several apprehensions under the Mental Health Act over the past two days.

On July 27th at 3:42 PM officers dealt with a 51 year old male that was expressing thoughts of self-harm.  The male was located in a north end hotel.  He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and brought to the Brockville General Hospital.

On July 27th at 7:00 PM officers were made aware of a 44 year old male that had been observed sitting on a sidewalk for several hours.  The caller was concerned for the male’s well-being and contacted police.  When officers spoke with the male he indicated suicidal ideation.  He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to the Brockville General Hospital.

On July 28th at 3:30 PM officers were dispatched to Pearl Street by the Rexall Pharmacy for a male acting suspiciously. A 20 year old male was located and apprehended under the Mental Health Act.  He was transported to Brockville General Hospital for an assessment.

Four other calls dealing with people in distress were also dealt with by officers in a 48 hour period that did not result in an apprehension.

Mischief

On July 27th at 7:50 PM officers responded to a mischief complaint on Broadway Avenue.  The suspect had damaged a vehicle belonging to the complainant.  A 61 year old male was identified as a suspect in the incident.  He was located on the 28th and arrested.  As this male was already on charges for similar incidents he was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Theft

On July 28th at 2:00 PM a 31 year old male was observed committing a theft from an unlocked vehicle at the Super Store on Parkedale Avenue.  When the male was confronted he fled on foot.  Officers tracked the suspect down a short distance away.  He was arrested for the theft and arrested.  The male also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Bail Violations

A 33 year old female was arrested on July 28th shortly before 2 PM for a bail violation.  She had failed to report as required by her release documents.  The accused was located walking on California Avenue by officers on routine patrol.  She was arrested without incident and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Charges Laid

On the 25th of February 2020 at 5:00 p.m. a member of the Brockville Police Service was involved in an arrest of a female for a bail violation.  A recording of part of that interaction was captured on a cell phone.  That footage was obtained by our service and an internal investigation was conducted.  The officer identified in the video had been placed on administrative duties.

As a result of the investigation Cst. Michael Boszormeny has been charged with “assault causing bodily harm” and will appear in provincial court at a later date.  There will be no further comment as the matter is before the courts.

July 23 – 27, 2020 News Release

Special Investigation Unit

SIU press release: “On July 25, 2020, a 56-year-old man fell from the North Augusta Road overpass in Brockville to the westbound on-ramp for Highway 401. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Moments before his fall, Brockville Police Service officers had approached the man on the overpass. 

In accordance with the Special Investigations Unit’s name release policy which requires consent from next of kin, the Unit is now able to identify the man as Alberto Ayala Guerrero of Houston, Texas.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator are continuing to investigate this incident. The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.”

Warrants

A 41 year old male was arrested on the 23rd of July 2020 just before 8 PM when police responded to a medical complaint in the downtown core.  The male was located inside the residence and arrested for an outstanding warrant stemming from an incident on June 18th.  That incident resulted in an assault charge along with a charge of breaching a bail condition for a communication breach.  The male was not located until the time of his arrest.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Sudden Death

On the 23rd of July 2020 at 7:36 PM police responded to call for a sudden death in the downtown area.  Officers discovered a 31 year old female deceased from a suspected drug overdose.  The case has been turned over to the coroner’s office.

July 21 – 23, 2020 News Release

Domestic Assault

Around 2 AM this morning, the Brockville Police responded to a downtown address for a domestic incident.  As a result of that call a 44 year old male was arrested for assaulting his common law spouse.  The injuries were minor in nature and did not require medical attention.  The accused has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

Disturbance

On July 12, 2020 at 3 AM the Brockville Police were dispatched to a disturbance on Pearl St. West.  The caller had observed two individuals in a heated argument.  One of the males then drew and pointed what appeared to be a firearm.  That firearm (air pistol) was recovered that night.  The suspect was identified and arrested on the 21st of July.  Both parties were known to each other and are Brockville residents.  The 41 year old accused male was released from custody with a future court date.

Bail Violations

A 54 year old male was arrested on July 21st at 4:11 PM for failing to comply with a release order.  He was then arrested when he attended the station on an unrelated matter and held in custody for a bail hearing.  The male had come to the attention of the service when a local vehicle rental company reported that the male had not returned a vehicle.  That vehicle was returned to the company at the time of his arrest.

Bail Violations

A 19 year old male was arrested on July 21st at 6:25 PM for breaching a bail condition.  The male was observed out of his residence on Seven Oaks Avenue contrary to his release conditions.  He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Bail Violations

On July 21st at 2020 at 7:40 PM a 48 year old male was arrested for breaching a release order.  The male was subject of a trespassing complaint at a King St. West apartment building.  Officers attended the building located the male and arrested him for breaching his undertaking.  The male was on conditions not to be at the apartment building.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Weapons/Drugs

On July 21st at 7:41 PM Brockville Police responded to an “unwanted guest” complaint at a Perth St. residence.  Officers attended the resident and spoke with the complainant.  A 29 year old male had been staying at the residence and was no longer welcome.  He was asked to leave the residence by police.  While on scene the officers located a firearm that was in possession of the 29 year old male.  The male was prohibited from possessing any firearms and was then arrested.   A search incident to arrest led to the discovery of a small amount of fentanyl and methamphetamine.  The male was charged with being in possession of the drugs and the firearm.  The non-restricted firearm is a center fire semi-automatic rifle.  The male was held in police custody for a bail hearing. 

July 16 – 21, 2020 News Release

Break and Enter

The Brockville Police Service is seeking information regarding a break and enter that occurred to the Youth Arena on Broadway Ave.   Police received a call for the alarm at 2:40 AM and arrived on scene shortly after.  They discovered that the suspect(s) had gained entry to the building and entered the rooms inside the arena.  It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

Trespass by Night

A 23 year old male was arrested on July 20th at 12:30 AM for “trespass by night” and breach of probation.  The Brockville Police received multiple calls about the male going through parked vehicles in the area of Wright Cres.  He was arrested and released with a future court date.

Theft

On July 19th at 8 PM a 32 year old male was arrested by the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) at the Real Canadian Superstore for attempting to steal $130 worth of meat.  Police were contacted and charged the male with theft then released him from custody with a future court date.

Warrants/unwanted guest

On July 18th at 9:30 PM the Brockville Police were requested to remove an unwanted guest from an inbound VIA train.  When the train arrived officers located the 28 year old female and escorted her from the train.  Officers discovered that she had a warrant for her arrest from Ottawa.  She was arrested and turned over to the Ottawa Police Service.

Impaired Operation

On July 19th, 2020 shortly after midnight, a 20 year old accused was observed operating a 2010 Ford Fusion westbound on Pearl Street W. at Stewart Boulevard. The accused’s vehicle had a flat tire which could be heard by police parked nearby.

Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the driver had had signs of impairment by alcohol. Police formed suspicion that the driver had been consuming alcohol and the male failed a roadside exam.

The accused was arrested for the offence of impaired operation of a conveyance. The male subsequently provided two samples of his breath that were double the legal limit.

The male has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operation with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.  He will appear in court at a later date.

Assault

On the 17th of July 2020 shortly after 10 PM, police responded to a disturbance at a residence on Central Ave.  As a result of that call a 30 year old Brockville woman was arrested and charged for assaulting her roommate.  She was released from police custody with a future court date.

On July 18th at 3 PM that same female returned to her residence and assaulted the victim a second time.  She was arrested again and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Disturbance

On July 18th shortly after midnight, police were called to a disturbance at a downtown establishment.   A 26 year old male was threatening other customers and was involved in an altercation.  The male was located at the scene and arrested.  He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.

Assault with a Weapon

On July 16, 2020 at 2 PM a 50 year old accused was on the Brock Trail behind a King St. West.

The Accused was sitting unconscious at a picnic table with several needles on the table. The complainant approached the accused to ask him to clean up his items and move on as it was a park area.

The accused became aggressive with the complainant and took out a golf club which he had in the area.  He held the golf club over his shoulder with two hands and the complainant felt that he was going to be hit with the golf club. The complainant pushed the accused to the ground and backed away.

The complainant contacted the police and the accused left the area.

The accused was located a short time later on the Brock Trail in the area of St. Paul and Water St. He was placed under arrest for Assault with a Weapon and Breach of Release Order.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

July 15 – 16, 2020 News Release

Fail to remain

On July 7th at 1:41 the Brockville Police Service responded to a fail to remain traffic collision.  The collision occurred on Park Street at Front Avenue.  The suspect vehicle caused enough damage to the second vehicle rendering it inoperable.  The driver of that vehicle was transported to Brockville General Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the suspect vehicle then left the scene, making no attempt to stop. Through investigation a 32 year old male was charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to comply with probation.

At the time of the collision officers located the suspect vehicle a short distance away parked behind a building.  The police canine “Diesel” was deployed and successfully tracked the driver to his residence.  The officers were able to positively identify the driver and lay the appropriate charge.  He was arrested for those charges on July 15th shortly after 3 PM.  He will appear in court at a future date.

July 14 – 15, 2020 News Release

Drugs 

Police arrested two people in a joint-forces drug bust near the north end Super Centre in uptown Brockville on Tuesday afternoon.

The Brockville Police Service, along with the Ontario Provincial Police, carried out a targeted traffic stop off Parkedale Avenue, just before 2:00 PM on Tuesday.

Officers seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine and weapons.  The drugs have an estimated street value of over $13,000.

Also seized was a motor vehicle being used as a conveyance and a quantity of Canadian currency.

Police arrested the 31 year old male and the 32 year old female at the scene but are unable to publicly identify them at this time as the charges have not been sworn to at the time of this release.  Both were released with a future court date, each with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking of a schedule I substance.

Bail Violations

At 9:00 AM on the 14th of July officers were called to a downtown residence for a 25 year old male that was out of control and breaking property in a residence.  Officers attended and were able to de-escalate the situation.  The male was arrested without incident for a breach of a bail condition and also charged with mischief for damaging the property.  The male was released from police custody with a future court date.

Domestic Assault

On July 15th shortly after midnight officers responded to south end residence for a domestic incident.  As a result of their investigation a 45 year old male was arrested for assault and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

July 13 – 14, 2020 News Release

Bail violations

Two people were arrested in separate incidents this morning; both were charged with breaching a bail condition. 

The first was a 50 year old male that was arrested on John St. at 8:40 AM.  He was wanted for breaching a reporting condition on his release documents.  He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

The second was a 37 year old female that was arrested on Ormond St.  The female was wanted for a communication breach contrary to her release conditions.  She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Break and Enter

Two females are charged with “break and enter” stemming from an incident last night at 7:53 PM.  The females had a friend drive them to a residence on King St. East.  While one suspect kept watch the other entered the unlocked residence.  They were confronted by the homeowners and left.  The 33 and 32 year old suspects were located a short distance away and arrested.  One was released from the station with a future court date and the second was held in custody for a bail hearing.
