Retirement of Detective Paul Smith

The Brockville Police Service bids farewell to another of our family today as Detective Paul Smith, who for the last 16 years has worked as the Forensic Identification Officer for the department.

Paul began his career with the Brockville Police in February 1985 as a uniform patrol officer doing a variety of duties including on occasion serving as an acting supervisor on his shift. In 2001, he was the successful candidate for the position of Forensic Identification Officer, a position he enjoyed and worked at until his retirement.

During his term as the Forensic Identification Officer, Detective Smith was a member of three homicide investigative teams, and part of several Coroner’s Inquest investigative teams. He was the Services DNA co-ordinator as well as a Forensic Artist who interviewed witnesses and provided sketches of possible suspects to assist investigators in identifying accused persons. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humour, Paul could always be counted on to lighten the mood around the office with a few laughs during tough investigations.

From all of your colleagues at the Brockville Police, congratulations to Paul and his wife Cindy on your retirement, and thank you for your 33 years of service to our community.
