A Brockville youth is to appear in court this morning after making a verbal threat of a school shooting toward St. Mary Catholic High School in Brockville.
Just after 12pm yesterday afternoon, school administration contacted the Brockville Police when students had alerted them of the verbal threat made by the youth. In addition, videos and images were sent from the youth to other students and began circulating online. School administration followed necessary protocol and placed the school in a hold and secure mode for a short period of time until officers with the Brockville Police were able to locate the individual. A short time later the youth was taken into custody without incident.
The police investigation is continuing at present and interviews are still being conducted with regard to the situation. The board is also initiating the Violent Threat Risk Assessment Protocol (VTRA) and counseling supports are being provided onsite to students at St. Mary CHS. The Brockville Police and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario wish to assure staff, students and parents there are no further concerns for safety at the school as a result of this incident.
