March 22 – 23, 2018 Incidents

Domestic Dispute

While on patrol in the downtown area early yesterday afternoon officers were flagged down by a pedestrian and advised of a possible domestic disturbance taking place at a King Street residence.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. officers driving in the downtown were stopped by a citizen who could hear yelling from a residence she had passed. Officers then responded to the residence and were met at the door by 38 year old woman who was upset, and told officers she had been in an argument with a boyfriend but provide little details to investigators. Short time later officers were able to locate a 42 year old male who was the other person involved and spoke to him who gave his version of the events which differed from the woman’s version.

At this time the incident remains under investigation.

 

Door to Door Sales

Just after 7 p.m. Brockville Police received a called from a resident in the Bramshot Avenue/ Ormond Street area of two males going door to door representing an Energy Sales Company and asking to see the homeowner’s thermostat.

Officers on patrol at the time attended to the area and were unable to locate the men fitting the description provided by the caller.

Area residents are reminded to be cautious of door to door sales persons. Ask for photo identification and get the name of the company they represent. Never share any personal information of provide them with bills or copies and always research before you sign any contract.

Residents are also reminded that in Ontario, customers have a 10 day cooling off period in which if a contract is signed the contract can be cancelled for any reason within that period. As well, residents of the City of Brockville have a by-law regarding door to door sales persons and the requirement to notify the City they are operating door to door.

March 20 – 21, 2018 Incidents

Suspicious Person/breach of conditions

At 11:00 am yesterday police attended to the King St. area for a complaint of a suspicious male. While officers were investigating this occurrence they located a 27 year old male that was wanted on a warrant for breaching his probation. The male was arrested and provided with a future court date.

 

Disturb the Peace/breach of conditions

A 49 year old male was arrested for breaching one of his bail conditions to abstain from alcohol.

At 7:30 pm police responded to a Bennett St. address in response to a disturbance. The 49 year old had attended the residence to confront another male.   Police were called and discovered that he had been consuming alcohol. He was arrested and held for bail.

March 17 – 18, 2018 Incidents

Drug Offences

On the 18th of March 2018 at 5:00 am a 22 year old female was stopped for a traffic offence on Central Ave. As a result of this traffic stop she was charged with possession of cocaine and released at the scene.

 

Public Intoxication

A 26 year old male was involved in an altercation at a local establishment on King St. Sunday morning. He refused to leave when directed by staff and was arrested by police at that time and charged with public intoxication.

 

Public Intoxication

A 21 year old male was also arrested for public intoxication early Sunday morning after police attended a party in the city’s north end. Police were called to the residence as the other party goers had thrown him out due to his behaviour.

 

March 17, 2018 – Robbery

On March 17, 2018 at approximately 03:15a.m., the Brockville Police Service received a call of an armed robbery at the Circle K convenience store located at 250 King St. W. An unknown male suspect entered the store and brandished what appeared to be a black handgun while demanding money from the register. Money was turned over to the suspect after which he then fled the area. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5’6″ – 5’8″ in height, late 20’s to 30’s, thin, wearing grey jogging pants, a dark blue windbreaker with a grey hood and 3 hole ski mask. Dirty blonde / light brown facial hair is observed protruding from the ski mask.

The Brockville Police Service is seeking the publics assistance in identifying the male suspect with the security photo that is attached. If you have any information in regards to the identity of this suspect please contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127.

 

 

 

Gun Amnesty

Brockville Police are joining an O.P.P. led gun amnesty initiative for the month of April.

The Gun Amnesty is for any Ontario resident who wishes to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition.

The Amnesty is a way to provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety. During the Amnesty, Police will not recommend weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in these items.

*Please note there is no Amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime. You will not be permitted to surrender items anonymously.

Beginning in April those persons in Brockville wishing to turn in any firearms, weapons, accessories, or ammunition are asked to call the police non-emergency number at 613-342-0127 and arrangements will be made for an officer to safely retrieve the items. Outside of the City you can contact the O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122.

March 11 – 12, 2018 Incidents

Drug Offence

On March 10, 2018 at approximately 5:00p.m., an officer from the Brockville Police Service performed a traffic stop in the Center of the City. There were three occupants in this vehicle. The driver at the time was a 37 year old, local male, known to be wanted by police for uttering a forged document. That male was arrested and charged with that offence. He was later released with a court date. The incident continued however, as a very strong odour of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. Investigation revealed that one of the passengers, a 40 year old, local male, was in possession of approximately 31 grams of marijuana. He was arrested, charged and released with a future court date.

 

Dispute

On March 11, 2018 at approximately 5:30p.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to a call of a dispute between two males in the South of the City. After speaking with both males involved it was determined that charges would be laid. The accused person is a local, 26 year old male, who was arrested and charged with assault. He was later released with a future court date.

March 8 – 9, 2018 Incidents

Bail Violations

At 4:00 pm police were called to a downtown residence as the caller was wishing to report a breach of bail conditions. As a result of their investigation a 44 year old male and 31 year old female were arrested for various breaches and held for a bail hearing.

The female was also charged for assault as information came forward from the complainant about a previous incident earlier in the week.

 

Break and Enter

A break and enter suspect was caught by the home owner at 9:00 pm last night. The resident had left his partner, who was sleeping, in the residence while he went to the store. As he returned he observed the suspect fleeing out the back door. He gave chase, caught the suspect and held on to him until police arrived.

The 28 year old suspect has been charged with break and enter, possession of break and enter tools as well as possession of crystal methamphetamine and cocaine.

March 7 – 8, 2018 Incidents

Theft

A local youth was dealt with after it was discovered he was trying to sell a pair of shoes that he had stolen earlier in the day. The complainant had contacted police to report his “Air Jordan” shoes had been stolen. Police then received a complaint of the youth attempting to sell them to other kids in the area. The shoes were recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

March 6 – 7, 2018 Incidents

Drugs/theft

A 28 year old male was arrested yesterday on Buell St. by an observant officer. The officer had a photo of a suspect from a theft at the city’s library. As he pulled up on Buell St. to gather more information he observed the suspect exit a vehicle. He was arrested for the theft, and searched. The officer located cocaine on his person as well as a vehicle full of stolen property from another incident. The accused has been charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance.

 

Warrants

A 35 year old female turned herself into police and was arrested for failing to attend court. She was released with a future court date.

 

Assault Peace Officer

A 23 year old inmate spat on correctional staff at the Brockville Jail yesterday. He has been charged with assaulting a peace officer.

 

Police Assistance

The Brockville Police assisted with the arrest of a 27 year old male today at a downtown address. The male was wanted by Kingston Police for accessing child pornography. He has been turned over to the Kingston Police Service.

 

March 5 – 6, 2018 Incidents

Warrants

A local 54 year old male was located by Kingston Police and arrested as the result of a fraud investigation conducted by our service. Officers attended and took custody of the male, returning him to Brockville to answer to the charge.

 

Counterfeit

 

We continue to receive reports of counterfeit bills, both Canadian and American, being circulated in our city. These are the same counterfeit bills that were previously reported to have Asian writing on them. The suspects are now removing that writing and passing off the bills. There have been several arrests made in connection with the counterfeits, but the problem seems to persist.
