Social Media Reports of Overdose Death are False

Yesterday morning the Brockville Police Service received a phone call regarding a Facebook post stating a 39 year old man and his 34 year old girlfriend had suffered an overdose from an illicit street drug. The couple were allegedly conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital where the man was rumoured to have succumbed to the overdose.

The Brockville Police Service can confirm those reports are false. Officers were able to locate both persons yesterday and speak with them. Both the male and female were in good health and had no idea where the reports originated from.

 

Theft from Downtown Shop

Police are looking for a 32 year old Brockville man in relation to a theft of a Mygica PC with Windows 10 from a downtown store yesterday afternoon. Just after 3 p.m. officers attended to the Alternative Cash store located at 45 King St East, Brockville after the owner noticed the computer missing from the store

The man, who is known to police and staff in the store, is observed selecting the computer and leaving the store on the store security camera making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

The computer has not been recovered.

 

Loud Party at Tunnel Bay

At approximately 9:30 p.m. last evening Brockville Police received a couple of phone calls of a loud party going on at one of the boats moored in Tunnel Bay. Callers stated those on board had been drinking at the time and were concerned the boat occupants were going to try and operate the boat and leave the harbor.

When police arrived the party noise had calmed. All parties had settled for the night and the boat remained docked in the harbor.

Brockville Police would like to remind boaters that consuming on boats is only permitted when the boat is docked or anchored and the vessel must have living facilities such as rest rooms and sleeping quarters. As well, operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol carries the same penalties as operating a motor vehicle.

June 13, 2017 Incidents

Attempt Escape from Court

A 27 year old Brockville woman is in custody today after she attempted to escape from custody while at Bail Court yesterday afternoon.

The woman was being led into the court room prisoner’s box when she turned to speak with someone seated in the gallery. She then made a break for the court room door in an attempt to escape custody but was quickly apprehended by court room staff before she could make it out of the court room.

As a result the young woman remains in custody and will appear in court a future date to have her bail hearing.

 

Firearm seized from a vehicle

A complaint of a possible impaired driver led Brockville Police to an improperly stored firearm in the rear of a vehicle in downtown Brockville.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a call from a downtown business of a possible impaired driving leaving their parking lot. A description of the driver and the passenger was obtained and 911 dispatchers relayed the information to the responding officers. Shortly thereafter officers located the vehicle at Centeen Park unoccupied with the keys still in the ignition and the suspects walking a short distance away.

Located inside the vehicle wrapped in a blanket was a shotgun which was seized by officers.

Two 31 year old Brockville area men were arrested and charged with taking a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful storage of a firearm. One of the men was also on probation at the time and faces an additional charge of Breach of Probation.

June 12 – 13, 2017 Incidents

Arrest Warrant

A 19 year old Kingston woman attended to the Brockville Police Service yesterday morning and surrendered herself for some outstanding warrants from July of 2016.

She was originally charged with Theft under $5000 and failed to appear for a subsequent court date in relation to the charge. As a result of the warrant, she was held in custody overnight and will appear today in bail court and face an additional charge of failing to attend court.

 

Theft of Shoes

A 27 year old Brockville woman was arrested yesterday afternoon on Central Avenue for stealing a pair of shoes she selected and put on before walking out of The Score Thrift store at the Brockville Shopping Centre.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. yesterday afternoon staff at the Score noticed the woman select a pair of high heel shoes and put them on her feet. She exited the store making no attempt to pay for the shoes and boarded a City transit bus travelling eastbound on Central Avenue.

Officers located the woman on Central Avenue at Ormond Street after she exited the bus with the shoes in her hand. She was then arrested in relation to the theft and the shoes were recovered. Further investigation learned the woman was also on probation at the time of the incident.

As a result she will appear today for a Bail Hearing at Brockville Court.

June 9 – 12, 2017 Incidents

Newspaper Fire

Unknown persons lit some newspapers on fire next to an empty building on Water Street between the museum and The Mill restaurant Friday evening.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Brockville Police and Fire Services responded to a call of a small near the proposed Wayfare Condominium complex. The fire department quickly extinguished the fire and there was little damage and no injuries.

Constable Dustin Gamble is investigating.

 

Unwanted Person leads to Arrest

Police were called to a Ferguson Drive residence late Friday evening on a complaint of a person refusing to leave the residence after being evicted.

At 10:30 p.m. officers arrived at the residence to learn the unwanted female was attempting to take a bike which the property owner claim claims does not belong to her. While police were attempting to mediate that situation, a 25 year old male friend of the woman was also present and known to the police.

Further investigation revealed the man to have an outstanding warrant for breaching his probation and as a result he was arrested for the warrant and released with a future court date.

 

Public Intoxication

A 39 year old Brockville man spent the night at the Brockville Police station after being found intoxicated and asleep at the corner of King Street and Victoria Avenue.

Officers on patrol located the man at approximately 1:50 a.m. Saturday morning and learned earlier in the evening he was involved in several altercations on King Street with other bar patrons.

As a result he was arrested for Public Intoxication for his own safety and held until sober when he was released with a provincial offences notice in the morning.

 

Disturbance at Buell St Parking lot

While on patrol officers came across a disturbance between two males in the Buell St parking late Saturday night.

At 10:50 p.m. located the disturbance while in the downtown core. Brockville police officers separated the 48 year old and 41 year old male combatants and sent them to their respective residences in opposite directions on King Street.

Neither male appeared to have any injuries from the incident.

 

Tires Slashed in Downtown area

Overnight Saturday evening and Sunday Morning the Brockville Police Service responded to 7 complaints of tires being slashed King Street West and St. Paul St Area.

The majority of the vehicles that were damaged were parking in the Metro store parking lot.

Some of the damaged vehicles had been parked there from 4:30 pm Saturday afternoon until police were contacted Sunday morning at 3:00 a.m.

June 8 – 9, 2017 Incidents

Passenger on VIA Train requests assistance

A 21 year old male passenger of a westbound VIA Train called police early last evening asking police to meet him at the VIA station when he arrived.

The passenger enroute from Montreal to Toronto was not feeling well, had not eaten in a number of days, and was without his medication and wanting to go to the hospital to be examined. When he arrived in Brockville, he identified himself to officers who conveyed him to the Brockville General Hospital where he was examined and treated by staff at the hospital.

 

Don’t leave pets in your vehicles

With the warmer weather finally arriving and more expected this weekend, Brockville Police are beginning to receive calls about pets being left unattended in vehicles.

The Brockville Police would like to remind all pet owners, not to leave pets unattended in vehicles while they go shopping and especially in the warmer weather. Please consider the safety of your pet first.

June 7 – 8, 2017 Incidents

Social Media Video

Brockville Police have received numerous reports from concerned citizens about a video circulating on social media sites from LiveLeak.com and CreepHunterTV. The first reports came forward to police on May 28th of the existence of the video and it was assigned to the detective office for further investigation.

The video and allegations remain under investigation by the Brockville Police Service Detective office at this time.

 

Assault at Tim Horton’s

Officers were called to the Tim Horton’s on William Street late Tuesday in response to an altercation which took place earlier that morning.

The 28 year old victim advised police that he was struck by the 38 year old male suspect after an argument in the parking lot in which he suffered minor injuries.

Arrest Warrant Executed

A 19 year old Brockville woman was arrested late Tuesday evening at the Tim Horton’s on William Street when officers spotted her and confirmed she had outstanding warrants.

The woman was scheduled to appear in Brockville court on May 12th, 2017 in relation to fraud charges stemming from an incident first reported to police in January. When she failed to show the court issued a warrant for her arrest.

The woman was released with a new court date and now faces an additional charge of failing to attend court.

 

June 5 – 6, 2017 Incidents

Assault with a Weapon arrest

A 39 year old Brockville area male has been charged in relation to a physical altercation Monday morning.

Brockville Police responded to a residence on Perth Street at approximately 9 am on Monday the 5th of June, 2017, on a complaint of a physical altercation in progress. Information was received that a dispute was escalating quickly and 2 males were involved in the dispute. The above mentioned 39 year old male assaulted the other by striking him with a child’s scooter and causing damage to a vehicle with a shovel.

Officers attended the area and quickly located the males involved. As a result the suspect male was arrested for assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He was released on a promise to appear and officer in charge undertaking with a future court date.

 

Warrants

On the 5th of June, 2017, the Brockville Police Service located and arrested a 19 year old, local female, who had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to attend court. She was released on a promise to appear and officer in charge undertaking with a future court date.

 

Fail to Remain Collision

On the 5th of June, 2017, at approximately 6pm, the Brockville Police Service received multiple 911 calls in regards to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision. The collision took place as a vehicle turned from East bound on King Street West at a high rate of speed to North bound on Buell St. The suspect vehicle was a small silver Volkswagen that lost control on the corner and struck a parked vehicle. The suspect then fled the area at a high rate of speed after causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Shortly after, the suspect vehicle was located in the South East area of the city. The suspect driver was identified to be a local, 20 year old male. He was placed under arrest and charged for the offences of dangerous driving and fail to remain. Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident, however, the male suspect also refused to provide a breath sample to determine the level of alcohol in question. Due to his choice of refusal, he was also charged with refusing to provide the breath sample. He was released on a promise to appear with a future court date.

Scam Alert

The Brockville Police have been receiving numerous calls regarding a potential scam in our area.  A company is calling residents alleging to be conducting water sampling in the area.  The City of Brockville does not have any contracted company working on their behalf to test water.  If you receive a call regarding water testing in Brockville we suggest you hang up or delete the text. 

 

We have fielded over a dozen calls in the past hour.

 

June 4 – 5, 2017 Incidents

Arrest in Domestic Disturbance

A 37 year old Brockville area woman has been charged in relation to a domestic occurrence on Saturday afternoon.

Brockville Police responded to a Brock Street residence shortly before 5 pm on Saturday on a complaint of a domestic dispute. On arrival things had calmed and the female accused had left the residence. Officers continued to investigate and learned that during the argument the woman grabbed some art work from the walls and threw it at her husband and striking him in the shoulder area.

It was also learned that at the time of the incident the domestic dispute the woman was released on a recognizance of bail with several conditions including not to communicate with the 38 year old male victim and not to attend the address on Brock St.  

As a result she is now facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Mischief under $5000, and 3 counts of breaching her Recognizance.

 

Fire at the Brockville Jail

Yesterday afternoon, Police attended with the Brockville Fire Department to a report of a small fire at the Brockville Jail.

At approximately 2:45 pm yesterday afternoon Police and Fire were called to the jail near the Wall Street entrance. The fire was quickly extinguished but prisoners were moved outside into the yard for a short period of time while firefighters cleared the smoke from within the building. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

This incident remains under investigation.

 

Stewart Blvd Road Closure – June 7th

Stewart Boulevard between Parkedale Avenue and Chelsea Court will be closed for approximately one hour Wednesday June 7th between 2 pm – 3 pm as Hydro One replaces a Power Line crossing Stewart Boulevard.

Detours will be in effect during this time.

Police and Hydro officials hope to minimize traffic disruption during this time period and get the road open as soon as possible and ask for the publics assistance and understanding during this time period
