Well-Being check leads to Elder Abuse Investigation

A concerned neighbour contacted Brockville Police late yesterday afternoon after he heard arguing at his elderly neighbour’s residence when he went to check on her.

Brockville Police were called to the residence of a 95 year old woman at 5:20 pm yesterday afternoon. Responding officers learned there was a dispute among family members and friends in attendance over the woman’s health care and financial powers of attorney.

Leeds and Grenville EMS attended and transported the elderly woman to the Brockville General Hospital for some minor injuries to her leg and she was later released from hospital.

The disputed Power of Attorney matters remain under investigation by police.

 

Break and Enter to tool shed

The Brockville Police are investigating a break and enter overnight from a storage shed at the rear of a residence on Perth Street.

At 1:50 am Cst Mike Noonan was on patrol on Perth Street between Downey and Brock Street when he saw a man wearing a red hoodie and a backpack go in between two houses on the west side of the street and tools sitting on the front lawn of the residence.

The male suspect fled westbound through the back yards. Officers checked the area and discovered several other sheds had been tried in attempt to break in as well

June 25 – 26, 2017 Incidents

Breach of Bail Conditions

A 19 year old Lyn man was arrested yesterday for breaching his Bail Conditions after a complaint was received that he was communicating with his 11 year old victim.

Sunday morning at 8:20 the 11 year old victim’s mother contacted police to report the man had been contacting her daughter over her iPad contrary to his court ordered conditions. Further investigation revealed he had also spoken to the young girl on two other occasions in person also contrary to the conditions of release from custody.

The 19 year old man who is known to police was later located on Stewart Blvd and placed under arrest for breach of his conditions and held in custody pending a bail hearing today.

 

Public Intoxication at Poutine Fest

A suspicious person call to the Volleyball courts at Hardy Park during Poutine Fest led to the arrest of a 29 year old Brockville man for public intoxication early yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 12:20 pm yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a call about the man who was on the picnic table but had since fallen to the ground. With assistance from the Leeds and Grenville EMS, officers attended to the area and located the young man and found him to be under the influence of alcohol.

As a result he was arrested for public intoxication and held in custody until sober when he was given a provincial offences notice ticket with a fine.

 

Off Duty officer assists in arrest of Shoplifters

A couple from Ottawa picked a bad time to shoplift at the Real Canadian Superstore on Sunday.

Loss prevention officers from the store contacted the Brockville Police approximately 5:20 yesterday afternoon when they observed a man and a woman take a bunch of groceries and leave the store without paying. As they approached the couple outside the store the man and woman took off south bound out of the parking lot. At the time, Constable Dave Jeggo who was off duty and at the store, observed this and took off after the couple and catches up with them at Wiltse’s Glass on the south side of Parkedale Ave.

The 27 year old man and his 22 year old girlfriend, both from Ottawa, were arrested for theft and taken into custody where they were released with several bail conditions and given a future court date.

 

Female in Custody for Breaching Conditions

A 37 year old woman is in custody awaiting a bail hearing this morning after police were called to a Brock Street residence.

At 7:15 pm Brockville Police were called to the residence of the woman’s estranged husband advising she was currently at the house and is on conditions not to be there. On police arrival the woman was located hiding in a downstairs basement closet and arrested for breaching her bail conditions from 2 other incidents.

She was taken into custody at the Brockville Police Service and conveyed to court to appear for a bail hearing later today.

June 24 – 25, 2017 Incidents

Shoplifter

On the 24th of June, 2017 a 59 year old man was arrested for shoplifting at a north end store. He was released with a future court date.

 

Fight

On the 24th of June, 2017 there was a physical altercation near John and King Street in the City of Brockville around 8pm.

Impaired Driver

On the 25th of June, 2017 at aproximately 4am a concerned citizen contacted the police regarding a driver falling asleep at wheel. The vehicle was observed by police in the north end of the city. A 28 year old male was arrested for the offence of impaired and over 80 and brought to the station. Due to his low readings he was released on a 7 day licence suspension and his vehicle was towed.

June 24, 2017 Incidents

RIDE Program

Brockville Police officers conducted RIDE checks throughout the city on June 24th, 2017. There were no infractions reported and all vehicles checked appeared to be in compliance. Police would like to remind residents with the summer weather approaching to have a designated driver if they choose to go out. RIDE checks will be conducted througout the summer months.

 

Disturbance

On June 24th, 2017 at approximetly 1:30 am Police received a call in the south end of city in relation to a disturbance occuring. Police located an intoxicated group of 3 individuals who all engaged in a physical altercation, as a result 3 males aged 23, 24 and 45 were all charged under the Fighting By-law. Minor injuries were reported which they received medical attention for.

June 22 – 23, 2017 Incidents

Arrest from 2016 Theft

Ottawa Police arrested a 27 year old Ottawa man in connection to a February 2016 theft from Wal-Mart department store in Brockville and turned him over to Brockville Police yesterday evening.

On the 18th of February 2016 the 27 year old accused was observed by Loss Prevention officers in the store taking electronics items from the store and placing them in a tote bag before fleeing the store. Outside, he was approached by Loss Prevention officers when he fled into a waiting Honda Odyssey with over $2700 worth of merchandise and sped away.

Officers from the Brockville Police attended and investigated and were able to identify the 27 year old as being responsible for the theft and issued a warrant for his arrest. At the time of the Brockville theft in February 2016, the man was already facing charges in Ottawa for theft and at large on a Recognizance of Bail.

Yesterday, officers in Ottawa were dealing with him on a separate investigation and arrested him on the Brockville Police warrant. He will be appearing later today in Bail court in Brockville.

 

Public Intoxication

A 44 year old Brockville man was arrested late yesterday afternoon after a call of a person hanging around the front door of a local business on King Street.

At 5:30 p.m. Brockville Police received a call about a man on King St West between Victoria Avenue and Court House who appeared to be in distress and intoxicated by either drugs or alcohol. Officers attended and located the man at the intersection of King and Buell Streets and found him to be under the influence of alcohol and not able to care for himself.

As a result he was arrested for public intoxication and conveyed to the Brockville Police Station where he stayed until he was sober and released on a Provincial Offences notice.

June 21 – 22, 2017 Incidents

Suspicious Person Call leads to arrest

A call of a suspicious person around the Youth Arena led to the arrest of a 30 year old man for breaching his release conditions.

At 7:30 last evening Brockville Police received a call of the man acting strangely in the parking lot of the youth around and fumbling around a nearby car. When officers arrived they located the man near the vehicle. Further investigation revealed he had outstanding charges from Alberta in which he was released on a Recognizance of Bail with a condition that he not to leave the province of Alberta.

As a result, officers placed the man under arrest for breaching his recognizance of bail and held him in custody pending a bail hearing later today.

 

Domestic leads to Assault complaint

Police are looking for a 23 year old Brockville area man after his partner attended to the Brockville Police station Wednesday to report an assault which took place during a domestic dispute on Monday.

The 21 year old woman, who had been staying with family members since the incident on Monday attended to the police station and was interviewed by investigators. She reported the domestic turned physical and she suffered some minor injuries as a result.

This investigation is ongoing and officers are trying to locate the young man to speak with him.

 

Disturbance at Brockville General Hospital

Officers were called to assist staff at the Brockville General Hospital yesterday afternoon after a disturbance on one of the floors.

Staff at the hospital contacted the police at 2:00 pm yesterday afternoon when they were having trouble with a 19 year old woman who became physical with several of their staff. Officers were able to control the young woman and learned she had outstanding charges from the Leeds OPP. As a result she was arrested for those charges and turned over to the OPP.

Brockville Police continue to investigate the assaults against Brockville General Hospital staff.

 

Public Intoxication

A 21 year old Brockville woman spent the night at the Brockville Police Service after a caller contacted police concerned with her well-being.

At 11:30 pm police received a call from a resident on Perth Street concerned for the woman, who was upset, and under the influence of alcohol. When officers attended they found her to be intoxicated and upset and placed her under arrest for Public Intoxication for her safety.

She was conveyed to the Brockville Police headquarters where she spent the night and was released in the morning with a provincial offences notice for Public Intoxication.

 

June 20 – 21, 2017 Incidents

Head-on Collision on King Street

Two Brockville women were taken to Brockville General Hospital late yesterday afternoon as a result of a head-on collision on King Street East.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. yesterday Brockville Police were called to area of King Street East and Orchard Streets when a westbound black Ford minivan which was being driven by a 17 year old Brockville woman struck an eastbound Volkswagen being driven by an 18 year old woman from the Mallorytown area.

Both the driver of the Volkswagen and a 33 year old female passenger in the minivan were conveyed to Brockville General with minor injuries.

Impaired Driving arrest

A concerned motorist contacted police after she observed a vehicle driving erratically in the city’s north end which resulted in a traffic stop and charges of impaired driving.

The caller observed a silver Honda making several driving infractions and operating at various speeds before contacting police with the location and licence number of the vehicle. Police in the area were able to catch up with the Honda near the intersection on Stewart Blvd at Jefferson Drive. Upon speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath and conveyed him to police headquarters for breath tests.

After providing breath samples, the 59 year old Addison area man was charged with impaired driving and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. He was released and given a future court date.

 

June 19 – 20, 2017 Incidents

Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement

The Brockville Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and Ministry of Transportation Enforcement officers teamed up yesterday for a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement blitz at various locations throughout the city.

During the initiative, 9 motor vehicles were thoroughly inspected resulting in 12 charges under the Highway Traffic for a variety of offences and 2 vehicles being taken out of service.

 

Thefts from Vehicles in the City’s south end

Yesterday morning Brockville Police received three complaints from vehicle owners of minor thefts from unlocked vehicles parked in various locations throughout the city’s south end. Items taken from the vehicles include loose change, clothing and electronics equipment such as cellphones.

A fourth complaint was received from a car owner reporting damage to his vehicle in the south end but did not notice anything missing from their vehicle.

Car owners are reminded to lock their cars overnight even if the vehicle is in your driveway. If you must park your car on the street overnight, park it in a well-lit area, and remove all valuable items from view from outside the car.

Residents are asked to contact police if you observe individuals walking in the area of parked cars and checking door handles and not to approach these people themselves. June 16 – 19, 2017 Incidents

Bank Security Scam

Brockville Police were alerted by area residents Friday of a scam re-appearing in the area over text message asking the receiver to verify their banking information.

Residents contacted the police to advise they had received a text message from persons alleging to be from bank corporate security advising them their account had been temporarily suspended and providing them with a link to reactivate their account information.

Police remind area residents that bank security personnel do not send out security alerts via text message. If you receive such a message please contact your local bank branch and advise them and check with them on the status of your account. Never provide your account or any banking information to someone you do not know.

 

Mental Health Act calls

Friday was a busy day for the Brockville Police Service and their Mental Health community partners as three persons were apprehended under the Mental Health Act and brought to hospital for their safety.

On one call for service, medical staff became concerned about the well-being of one of their patients living in the community and signed an order to have them brought to the Brockville General Hospital for examination by a physician.

The other two calls to the police were from family and friends asking police to check on the well-being of a loved one as they had received some concerning messages. In both cases police attended and felt it best they be taken to the hospital for examination.

 

Warrants Executed

A 53 year old Brockville man was arrested Friday after a call was received of a suspicious male lying in the grass near Food Basics.

At approximately 12:40 pm Friday afternoon, Brockville Police received a call of the suspicious male near Food Basics and located him in the grass nearby. Further investigation revealed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Breaching his Recognizance and as a result was taken in to custody on the outstanding charges.

Early Friday evening a 38 year old Brockville woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant for breaching her Probation. The woman, who is known to police, was taken into custody for a brief period of time while the warrant was executed and released with a future court date.

 

RIDE Check leads to arrest

Brockville Police conducted RIDE program checks during the evening and early morning hours on Saturday. Over 100 vehicles were stopped and no impaired driving charges resulted from the RIDE checks.

However while conducting the RIDE check, a 34 year old Brockville woman who is known to police was spotted in a vehicle and it was confirmed she had outstanding warrants from the OPP. She was arrested and conveyed to the Brockville Police Headquarters where she was turned over to the OPP who in turn released her with a future court date.

 

Hit and Run on Park Street

Officers from the Brockville Police continue to investigate a hit and run accident which occurred on Park Street early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:40 am Sunday morning police received a call of a hit and run which just occurred on Park Street. The suspect vehicle was observed to continue south on Park Street to King Street where it turned and continued east bound. The suspect vehicle was described as being a Toyota RAV 4, 4-door hatchback and a rust colour with visible damage to the right front corner.

The suspect vehicle was located later Sunday morning and towed to a secure compound. Sunday afternoon the registered owner of the vehicle attended to the Brockville Police Service and told police he had parked his vehicle in the TISS parking lot overnight and left it unlocked with the keys in it and wished to report his vehicle stolen. The vehicle is being held for forensic examination by Detective Paul Smith of the Forensic Identification unit.

Medical Assistance

Officers from the Brockville Police Service were called to the front of 10 Cartier Court early Sunday morning when a female dressed only in pyjamas was wondering out in front and appeared confused and unable to speak.

At 4:20 am Brockville officers located the woman on Cartier Court by herself and without any identification on her person. Concerned for her well-being officers contacted EMS who conveyed the woman to Brockville General Hospital where she was kept for examination.

On Sunday afternoon, hospital staff reported to police they still had no identification for the female and while she was able to say a few words, was not able to tell staff her name.

As a result, officers from the Brockville Police canvassed the area around Cartier Court in an attempt to identify the woman and also issued a public appeal to the media for their assistance in obtaining her identity.

As a result of this, a number of tips were received and the identity of the woman was confirmed and her family members contacted.

 

Theft of SeaDoo

Sometime overnight Saturday unknown persons attended to Matt’s Auto located on Stewart Boulevard just north of the William Street overpass and took a SeaDoo and trailer from the parking lot.

Brockville Police were contacted at approximately 8:30 am Saturday morning and advised of the theft from the businesses parking lot. Nearby vehicles in the parking lot were left untouched while the theft took place.

Tire Slashing continues

Vehicles parked in the area of the Brockville Arts Centre continue to be the target of tire slashers. On Sunday morning two more vehicles suffered damage by their tires being slashed.

Threats

A 21 year old Brockville area man was arrested and charged with threatening in relation to a relationship with his former partner.

The female victim attended to police headquarters saying she feared for her safety from man after he made some threatening comments to her and sent a number of text messages to her friends and family members.

Police contacted the young man by phone and advised him of the incident and he agreed to come to the Brockville Police headquarters and turned himself in. He was later released with several conditions and given a future court date.

June 15 – 16, 2017 Incidents

Domestic Dispute leads to arrest

A 33 year old Brockville woman will appear today for a bail hearing in Brockville court after a domestic disturbance early this morning.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Brockville Police were called to a Brock Street residence by the 44 year old male victim reporting that he and his common wife had been in an argument and he had been hit several times and received cuts on his face.

When police arrived they located the male victim inside the residence and spoke with him. A short time later the 33 year old woman who fled the residence when police were called, returned to the residence and spoke with officers. As a result of the investigation and interviews of those involved she was arrested for domestic assault and mischief under $5000 for a window which was broken in the residence during the altercation.

The woman was conveyed to the Brockville Police headquarters and conveyed to Brockville Court this morning for a Bail Hearing later today.

 

Shoplifter Arrested

A 41 year old Iroquois woman was arrested for shoplifting Thursday morning at the Real Canadian Superstore after store security spotted her in the clothing section selecting a number of items and leaving the store without paying for them.

Brockville Police were called to the store yesterday morning around 9:30 am by security staff after the woman was apprehended outside the store and returned to the office. On police arrival, officers continued the arrest and charged the woman with Theft Under $5000 and gave her a future court date.

The clothing was recovered and returned to store staff.
