Dispute Leads to Assault Charge

On April 24, 2023 at about 10:00AM, police received a call to attend Blockhouse Isl. Regarding a disturbance. Investigation revealed that a 25-year-old, female, had attended that area to confront her ex-boyfriend over property retrieval. The male was attempting to leave the area but the female would not let go of his car. It was also learned that earlier, the female had spit on the male during an argument. The female was placed under arrest and charged with assault. She was released on conditions with a future court date.

Family Dispute Leads to Assault Charge

On April 25, 2023 at about 8:00PM, police received a call of a family dispute in the area of Georgina St. Officers arrived and it was discovered that a 16-year-old, male, had assaulted his mother by striking her in the head and kicking her. Other options were sought in regards to providing assistance from partner agencies for the family, however, it was eventually decided that the youth would be charged with assault. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

Neighbour Dispute Leads to Assault

On April 25, 2023 at about 8:45PM, police received a call to a residence on Millwood Ave. regarding a dispute. Investigation revealed that a 56-year-old, female, confronted one of her neighbours regarding loud noise. She assaulted the neighbour by blocking the door open and pushing her back after grabbing her by the throat. The victim received minor injuries and the 56-year-old, female, was arrested and charged with assault. She was later released on conditions with a future court date.  

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

On April 26, 2023 at about 3:00AM, police executed a motor vehicle stop in the area of Kent Blvd., regarding a suspicious vehicle. The driver was identified to be a 40-year-old, male. Investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of unstamped tobacco, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, a pellet pistol, sword, club with a strap, machete and electronic devices used for the theft of vehicles. He was arrested and charged with four counts of possession of weapons for dangerous purpose, possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl and possession of break in instruments. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.  

Weekend Highlights

During the past weekend, the Brockville Police Service, was very busy. Officers responded to 147 calls for service, and in the meantime, were dealing with the influx of traffic from the 401 closure. News releases often don’t tell the whole story of what police services manage on a day to day basis. The following are highlights from the weekend.

Altercation Involving Weapons

On April 21, 2023 at about 8:00AM, police received a call regarding two males in an altercation in the area of William St. Officers arrived and located the males involved. Investigation revealed that the two males engaged in an argument which became heated. One of the subjects was a 24-year-old male, and during the altercation, brandished a knife toward the other male. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing for the offence of being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Domestic Disturbance

On April 21, 2023 at about 11:00PM, police received a call to attend a residence on St. Andrew St., regarding a domestic dispute. Information was that a male and female couple were engaged in a verbal altercation as they were walking home from dinner. The argument turned physical and the 42-year-old female, assaulted her partner by punching and kicking him. The dispute continued until they arrived at their residence, meanwhile, the physical altercation was ongoing. Investigation determined that the female had assaulted the male. When officers attempted to speak with the male victim, the attempted to prevent police from doing so. She was placed under arrest and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of assault and obstruct a police officer. The male did not seek medical attention and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Altercation with Youths Leads to Arrest

On April 22, 2023 at about 9:00PM, police received a complaint regarding an altercation that took place on James St., between a group of youths. Investigation revealed that two youths attended to the residence to see if a particular individual was visiting there. They were met at the door by a 16-year-old, male. This male became upset about the visitors attending the residence and proceeded to spray dog repellent at the two visiting youths. They fled and contacted police. Officers arrived and eventually made contact with the 16-year-old subject and placed him under arrest. He was charged with assault with a weapon and released with a future court date. The victims suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.    

Disturbance and Weapons

On April 22, 2023 at about 4:00PM, police received a call regarding a suspicious male causing a disturbance in the area of the SuperStore on Parkedale Ave. Officers arrived in the area and located the 24-year-old, male, identified to be the subject. It is to be noted, police had involvement with the male a short time prior, regarding a medical related issue at a different commercial business nearby. Investigation revealed that the male was causing issues with a Brockville City Transit bus, at a stopping location in the area. It was learned that he was threatening to harm multiple people on the bus while yelling and swearing. He was taken into custody and then taken to the hospital for a non-arrest related, medical issue. Later, once medically cleared, he was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of uttering threats, causing a disturbance, transportation fraud and failing to comply with release order.

**UPDATE**

Brockville Arts Centre Incident

The second and final youth identified to be involved in the “Orbeez challenge” incident that occurred on April 14^th, at the Brockville Arts Centre, has been arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a weapon. The youth was released with a future court appearance date.

The Brockville Police Service would like to thank everyone who was supportive, became involved and assisted police in bringing this investigation to its conclusion. We are appreciative and believe it’s important that community members assist police in resolving community problems. 

Impaired

On April 21, 2023 at about 2:45AM, an officer from the Brockville Police Service performed a motor vehicle stop in the area of Central Ave. The stop was made to check the driver’s sobriety, due to concerns for the way the vehicle was being operated. Upon the stop, a 63-year-old male, was identified to be the driver. A roadside breath test was administered, which, resulted in a fail. The male was placed under arrest and escorted to police headquarters for further testing. There, it was confirmed that the male was operating with over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. His vehicle was impounded and driver’s licence suspended. Once sober, he was released with a court appearance date for the offences of impaired operation and operation with blood alcohol concentration over 80mgs.

Brockville Arts Centre Incident

A Brockville youth has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon in relation to an incident that occurred on April 14^th at the Brockville Arts Centre. On the 15^th of April, Brockville Police received a complaint of multiple people being shot with a BB gun in the area of King Street West and Perth Street. Investigation revealed that two youths drove by the victims and discharged an “Orbeez” toy firearm into the crowd. One suspect has been located and arrested while a second remains outstanding. There were no injuries.

Police believe the incident was influenced by the TikTok trend called the “Orbeez Challenge”. The challenge encourages people to load Orbeez soft gels or water balls into airsoft pistols and fire them at innocent victims. Police would like to remind members of the public that the challenge is a criminal offence and those who participate, will face criminal charges.

The accused has been released and will appear in Brockville Court at a later date.

Circle K Robbery

The investigation into the robbery of the Circle K convenience store, revealed that a 44-year-old male, was responsible for the incident. On April 19, 2023, the Brockville Police Service located and arrested the male for robbery, disguise with intent and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

Armed Robbery

At about 3:00AM on Sunday April 16, 2023, the Brockville Police Service received information that the Circle K convenience store, on King St. W., was robbed at knife point. A lone male entered the store with his face covered and demanded money while brandishing a weapon. A short time later, the suspect fled the area on foot. Fortunately, no one was injured. Anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Detective Jamie Garvin at 613-342-1027 extension 4248 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Suspicious Package Suspected to be an Explosive Device

A portion of Front Avenue was closed yesterday afternoon around 3:00pm after a suspicious package was located in the area. A package that resembled an explosive device was located outdoors and the Police were notified. Responding officers evacuated a nearby building to ensure public safety and restricted the area around the device. With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit, the device was made safe. The incident remains under investigation. R.I.D.E. and Traffic Enforcement

Over the Easter long weekend, the Brockville Police Service continued our commitment to enforcement and promoting safety on our streets. During the weekend this enforcement included focusing on nuisance noisy vehicles and R.I.D.E. programs. These focused efforts resulted in the following:

• 320 vehicles stopped approximately
• 16 roadside breath tests
• 1 standard field sobriety test for drug impairment
• 2 driver’s licence suspensions – 3 day suspension for roadside alert
• 37 traffic tickets including speeding and improper muffler offences
• 1 charge under the Cannabis Control Act

Bail Violation

On April 9, 2023 at about 2:00PM, police observed a vehicle operating on Parkedale Ave. with no plates. The vehicle was stopped and occupants were identified. The passenger in the vehicle was a 27-year-old female, who had curfew bail conditions to be at a residence in Thunder Bay, ON. It was also learned that the female had a warrant for her arrest held by the Thunder Bay Police. The female was arrested for failing to comply with release order and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Bail Violation

On April 10, 2023 at about 5:30PM, the police received a call regarding two suspicious people in the rear alley of the Brockville Library.  These subjects had a large quantity of property and also lit a small fire. Police arrived and identified the subjects to be a 23-year-old male and 39-year-old female. The female had a warrant for her arrest for failing to comply with probation. The male was found to be on probation with conditions to abstain from communication with the female he was in the company of. Both were placed under arrest. The female was released shortly after with a future court date and the male was held in custody for a bail hearing for failing to comply with probation.  

Shoplifting

On April 11, 2023 at about 11:00AM, police received a call regarding a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian SuperStore. It was learned that a 43-year-old female had attempted to steal about $130.00 worth of groceries. She was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.0 and released with a future court date. 

Property Damage at Multiple Locations

On April 5, 2023 at about 6:30AM, police received information regarding damage to property at the Tim Horton’s on Parkedale Ave. Police identified a 26-year-old male, who had caused damage to a digital display sign and a donation box on the property. Further investigation revealed that the male had caused damage to two vehicles at the Canadian Tire parking lot across the street. Later in the day, officers located and arrested the male for two counts of mischief under $5,000.00. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Break and Enter

On April 5, 2023 at about 1:30PM, police received a 9-1-1 call regarding at a residence on Hartley St., regarding a 36-year-old male, attempting to gain entry to the residence. The male was described as being nude and suffering from some type of mental break-down. He had gained entry into the garage and threw a rock threw a door window, to gain entry into the residence. Officers arrived and confronted the male, who became assaultive. A conductive energy weapon (TASER) was used to gain control and effect the arrest. The male did have pre-existing injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Once cleared, he was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of nudity, break and enter and resist arrest. 

Bail Violations 

On April 5, 2023 at about 4:30PM, police received information of a 35-year-old male, who had been kicked out of his temporary residence in the area of Wall St. The male was on release order with bail conditions to reside at this address. However, due to incidents that go against household rules, he was removed. The male later returned to the residence and was located there by police. He was placed under arrest for fail to comply with release order and held in custody for a bail hearing.

Medical Distress at YMCA

At April 2, 2023 at about 11:00AM, the Brockville Police Service responded to assist Paramedics and the Brockville Fire Department, who had attended a call of a 27-year-old female, in medical distress at the YMCA on Park St.  Life saving measures were immediately performed and the female currently remains in a critical condition in hospital.  Police are asking for the public’s assistance in ascertaining further information about the incident.  Should anyone have information relating to this incident, please contact Staff Sergeant Laurie Bennett at 1-613-342-0127 ext:  4221.

Domestic Disturbance

On April 1, 2023 at about 11:30AM, the Brockville Police Service responded to a 911 call regarding shouting that could be heard coming from a residence on Kensington Pkwy. Officers arrived and spoke to all involved. Investigation revealed that the 32-year-old male and his girlfriend, were involved in a verbal argument. Evidence of an assault was discovered which had taken place approximately one month prior to this incident. The male was arrested and charged with assault. He was later released on conditions with a future court date.  

Drug warrant execution

A 45 year old male and a 22 year old female, were arrested early Thursday morning in the City’s south end. Members of the Brockville Police Service Drugs and Intelligence Unit and Criminal Investigations Branch, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a downtown residence. A quantity of controlled drugs were seized as a result. Both parties have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Both will appear in Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Medical Assistance

On Sunday March 26^th at approximately 0600hrs members of the Brockville Police Service were called to the area of Perth St., and Brock St. in the City’s South-end to assist paramedics who were responding to an unconscious male.  The male was medically treated and later transported to hospital.  Officers secured the area pending further information and investigation.  The investigation is ongoing and anyone who has any information is asked to contact Acting D/Sgt. Distraction Theft 

On March 29^th, 2023 an LCBO customer shopping at the Parkedale Ave location fell victim to a distraction theft.  Shortly before 3pm, the victim proceeded to the check-out to pay for her purchases.  During this transaction the victim’s PIN number was unknowingly viewed by a male suspect. The victim then left the store, returning to her vehicle while then being distracted by a female suspect who spoke to her about damage to her vehicle.  During this brief conversation the victim’s debit card was stolen from her purse.  Further purchases were then made by the suspects using the stolen debit card.  Brockville Police are asking that members of the public protect their valuables, remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to police.  The investigation is ongoing.

Stolen Vehicle

Members of the Brockville Police Service are investigating the report of stolen vehicle.  During the early morning hours on March 28^th, 2023 a 2016 White GMC Sierrra pick-up truck was stolen from the driveway of North-end residence. 

Suspicious Fires

On two separate occasions, overnight on the 28^th of March 2023 small fires were deliberately set to garbage located in two different areas within the South-end of the City.  No extensive damage or injuries have been reported. The fires were set between 2am and 4am and police are asking that anyone who may have information contact Cst. Mike Serson at 1-613-342-0127 ext:  6109.
