Fighting by-law:

On the 8^th of July 2018 at 7:20 pm, two 17 year old males agreed to meet and fight over an “Instagram” dispute. One male had apparently “liked” a photo of the other’s girlfriend. The two youths met and engaged in an altercation where police were called. Both males were charged under the city’s bylaw for fighting.

Theft:

On the 8^th of July 2018 at 7:40 pm, a 19 year old male selected $30 worth of chocolate bars from the Metro on King St. He then left the store making no attempt to pay. He was located a short distance away and arrested for the offence of theft. He was further charged with breach of a probation order.

Warrants:

A 22 year old wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court was arrested on the 7^th of July. Police were called to investigate a traffic collision and discovered the male was the passenger of the vehicle. He was arrested without incident.

Stunt Driving:

On July 7^th at 10:22 pm, officers were conducting a traffic enforcement program when a 17 year old male attempted to evade police by fleeing the area in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was discovered a short distance away and the identity of the driver was discovered. The driver has been charged with stunt driving and had his vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Warrants:

A 34 year old female, a 48 year old male and another 34 year old female were arrested Friday July 6^th in three separate incidents for their outstanding warrants.

Theft/Warrants/Drugs:

On Wednesday July 4^th the Brockville Police Service was contacted in regards to a theft of an e-bike valued at $600 from a downtown address. There were no suspects at the time of the theft.

On July 5, 2018 at 19:00 hours the complainant from the theft found his e-bike at the Tim Hortons on Brock St. He contacted police who attended and seized the bike. The suspect at this time approached police indicating that the bike was his and had been given to him. Unfortunately for the suspect he was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court. He was arrested on the strength of the warrant and searched.   The searched incident to arrest led to a further charge of being in possession of a controlled substance (psilocybin).

The investigation into the theft of the e-bike led to another charge of possession of stolen property. Along with these charges he was also on a recognizance of bail and was found to be in violation of certain conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Bail Violations

On July 4^th at 1:00 pm, the Brockville Police Service responded to a call for an unwanted person. The complainant had called to have a male removed from the residence. The 31 year old male had left the area prior to police arrival. He was on court ordered conditions not be at that address. He is now facing charges of failing to comply with his court order.

Bail Violations

On July 4^th at 2:50 pm, a taxi cab operator contacted police to report a transportation fraud. The 21 year old female passenger left the cab, failing to pay the $9.00 fare. She is now facing charges of fraud and breach of a recognizance.

Bail Violations

A 16 year old male is facing charges of violating his bail conditions by not abiding by a curfew and communication breaches. On today’s date, he was arrested without incident by court staff and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Bail Violations

On July 3^rd, 2018 at 8:00 pm a 55 year old male was arrested for breaching his bail conditions by consuming alcohol.   Police were responding to a complaint of an intoxicated male. This male was located and police learned that he was on court ordered conditions not to consume alcohol. He was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Assault with a Weapon

On the 1st of July, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Brockville Police Service received a complaint regarding a family dispute. The incident involved a 22 year old, local male, assaulting his 27 year old brother with a baseball bat. The victim was taken to BGH with non-life threatening injuries. The 22 year old accused was arrested and later released from custody with a future court date for the offences of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and a breach of his probation order.

Impaired Driving

On the 2nd of July, 2018, officers from the Brockville Police Service performed a traffic stop in the City as there was concern for the driver’s sobriety. As a result of the stop they found a 52 year old, local male who had an odour of alcohol coming from his breath. A demand to provide a breath sample was issued and the driver refused to provide a sample. The male was charged for refusing to provide a sample along with multiple other Highway Traffic Act offences. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days and driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. It is important to remember that penalties for refusing to provide breath samples regarding alcohol impairment while driving can be equivalent to a charge of Impaired Driving.

Stolen Vehicle

A $135,000 Audi R7 was reported stolen yesterday from a residence in Brockville. That vehicle was later recovered on Kensington Parkway.

The owner’s wallet was also taken at the time of the vehicle theft.

In the course of the officers investigation it was learned that the complainant’s credit card was used by the suspect at the LCBO and Circle K convenience store on King St. The suspect was captured on CCTV footage and identified by officers.

At 2:00 am this morning police were dispatched to William St. for an intoxicated male. The intoxicated male was the suspect that was identified from the CCTV footage. The 35 year old male was arrested for the fraud and has now also been charged with the theft of the vehicle. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Assault/Drugs

On June 24^th at 7:00 am, police were called to an address on Stuart St. The complainant had called police as he exited his house and discovered a 36 year old male in his vehicle. He confronted the suspect who then assaulted the complainant and fled the area. He was located a short time later and arrested for assault. A search incident to arrest led to a further charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Liquor Licence Act

On the 24^th of June, 2018 at approximately 4:00am, Police received a call regarding an intoxicated male in the North end of the City. Police located a 41 year old male where he was arrested for Public Intoxication. He was released in the morning with a fine.

Suspicious Person:

On the 28^th of May, 2018, Brockville Police released a photograph of an individual that police were looking to identify regarding an incident that took place at the “Second Time Around” store in Brockville. On the 23^rd of June, 2018 the 55 year old male was arrested in relation to that incident. He was released with a future court date. Assault Police

On the 22 of June, 2018 at 9:00pm in the south end of the city, a 21 year old female was being detained on a non-criminal matter. During the interaction with the police she kicked officers in the chest and stomach. She has been charged with Assault Police and released with a future court date.

Domestic

On the 22 of June, 2018 at approximately 11:30pm in the south end of the city a 38 year old male was arrested for a Domestic Assault with a weapon after a lamp post was used to strike his partner during an argument. The female victim received a minor injury which did not require medical attention. The accused was released with a future court date.

Impaired

During the early morning hours of June 23, 2018 a 27 year old male was stopped operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed in the south end of the city almost losing control. The driver was identified and charged with refusing to provide a sample of his breath. He was also released with a future court date, a 90 day licence suspension, and a 7 day vehicle impoundment.

Later that morning, another drivers actions, alerted the police causing her vehicle to be stopped. A roadside demand was administered which the 27 year old female failed. Further readings were provided where she registered over the legal limit. She was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate Over 80. She was released with a future court date, 90 day licence suspension and 7 day vehicle impoundment.

RIDE

A RIDE program was completed last night with 75 vehicles being checked. 3 Highway Traffic Act cautions and one roadside test administered. No alcohol related charges were laid.

A reminder to the public that officers will be out conducting RIDE programs throughout the city and on the City’s waterway. Please don’t drink and drive, and have a designated driver when you do plan to go out.
