Warrant

On the evening of the 12th of May 2018 officers were on patrol in the city of Brockville at approximately 8:45 pm when they observed a 20 year old woman who had outstanding warrants for property crimes for this community and also another municipality north of the city. She was walking downtown and officers approached her to make the arrest.

Upon doing so she became combative and began kicking and biting the officers who had engaged her, kicking one of the officers in the groin.

The arrest was completed and not only did she find herself being charged with the outstanding allegations on the warrant but also charges of assaulting officers with the intent to resist arrest. She was remanded into custody today and will appear in bail court Monday the 14th.

There were 33 calls for service in the 24 hour period, mostly minor in nature,  several mental health related calls and a couple of minor accidents.

Warrants

A 66 year old male was stopped on Central Ave last night at 11:00 pm for having expired validation. The driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Ottawa. He was later released with a new court date.

Gun Amnesty

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and its municipal law enforcement partners have received and rendered safe hundreds of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition during a month-long Gun Amnesty.

Locally, the Brockville Police Service had 13 firearms turned in (4 hand guns and 9 long guns).

All Ontario police services participated in the month-long initiative. During that time, a total of 1,503 guns were voluntarily surrendered in non-OPP jurisdictions.

A majority of firearms that have been surrendered to police will be destroyed, but a number of guns will be retained for historical, educational or training purposes. Although the gun amnesty has officially ended, police will continue to accept submissions from the public. Interested gun owners may call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or their local police service’s non-emergency lines to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons.

Police continue to encourage members of the public to turn in unwanted weapons despite the conclusion of this initiative. Police retain the ability to exercise discretion (amnesty) regarding weapons related charges at all times, not just during this month long event. The public is reminded that no one should ever deliver guns, ammunition or military ordinance directly to police facilities.

Theft

A 27 year old male was arrested for theft from several north end stores yesterday at 4:00 pm. A loss prevention officer at the Superstore approached the male to arrest him for theft. As the officer approached the male he produced a bottle of alcohol that he had previously stolen from the LCBO and began to drink it. He was arrested and turned over to police.

Breach of Probation

Officers where following up an occurrence on Buell St. when they observed male that breaching several conditions of his probation. He was arrested without incident.

Warrant

Officers executed a warrant on Victoria Ave. this morning for an arrest of a wanted party. Officers arrested a 21 year old male on the warrant that stemmed from a domestic incident from February. Officers received information of his location this week and obtained the warrant.

Dangerous Operation

Sunday at 0720 hours a 19 year old male was observed operating his vehicle in a dangerous manner on Millwood Ave. The vehicle was observed by an off duty city police driving at a dangerously high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped a short time later and the driver was charged with dangerous operation.

Domestic Assault

On Friday at 1400 hours a 40 year old male was arrested for assault in connection with a domestic incident. He was held in custody for a bail hearing, being charged with assault and two counts of breach of probation.

Warrants/drugs

At 1900 hours on Saturday police were called to a suspicious person in the area of the “Circle K” on King St. Police located a local 28 year old male that was wanted on a warrant of committal. The male was arrested and a search incident to arrest led to a further charge of possession of crystal methamphetamine.

Bail violation

A 26 year old male was located on Friday morning at 0130 hours when he was located outside of his residence contrary to his conditions. A search incident to arrest led police to the discovery of methamphetamine and counterfeit money. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Breach of Conditions

A 49 year old male was arrested for breaching his conditional sentence order yesterday. Police were called to reports of an intoxicated male on Pearl St at 1:30 pm. The male was located on the sidewalk and found to be in breach of one of his conditions. He was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing.

Overdose/weapons 

Officers responded to a call of an overdose on Pearl St. last night at 9:45 pm. That male was treated on by paramedics and transported to Brockville General Hospital. The officers discovered that the residence had been occupied various squatters. While dealing with the overdose officers discovered several rounds of ammunition, gun powder (used for reloading), a firearm, an air pistol, a stun gun, pepper spray and an unknown military ordinance.

The OPP explosive unit was called in to deal with the ordinance.

Two squatters were arrested and charged with various weapon offences and possession of a controlled substance.

Warrants

A 34 year old male was arrested for an incident that occurred early in March. Police had been called to a downtown apartment building as this male had assaulted the occupants using what is commonly known as bear spray. The accused fled the area at the time, but was identified by witnesses.

On the 1^st of May he turned himself in to police and now faces charges of assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance.

Public Intoxication

A 57 year old male was arrested for public intoxication at 18:42 hours yesterday. Due to his intoxicated state the male attracted attention of residents in the downtown area, who contacted police. He was arrested a short time after and lodged in the cells until sober.

Theft

A 26 year old male was arrested for theft from the LCBO on Parkedale Ave. yesterday. Store employees observed the male remove two bottles of alcohol from the store and leave the area in a taxi cab. The officers were able to locate the cab a short distance away and arrested the male for the theft.

Scam in the area

We have received information of a scam that may be in our jurisdiction. The suspects work in a team and prey on unsuspecting shoppers. The suspects watch as the shopper keys in their PIN code during a transaction. They then follow the victim to the parking lot where they are distracted by other suspects by asking for directions or general conversation. While the victim is distracted one of the suspects removes the debit or credit cards from them.
