Scam in the area

We have received information of a scam that may be in our jurisdiction. The suspects work in a team and prey on unsuspecting shoppers. The suspects watch as the shopper keys in their PIN code during a transaction. They then follow the victim to the parking lot where they are distracted by other suspects by asking for directions or general conversation. While the victim is distracted one of the suspects removes the debit or credit cards from them.

Please be vigilant, report any suspicious activity and protect your PIN.

Frauds involving on-line dating scams, rental scams, fraudulent use of bank cards, credit cards and depositing of misplaced or stolen cheques are frequently and consistently reported to police. While many of these are low in value and might not be thought of for major headline news, these incidents are on the rise. Not all, but many of these incidents can easily be prevented by you. We ask the public to please be diligent in protecting your private information while online, your blank cheques and financial institution cards PIN numbers at all times.
