Stolen Vehicles Recovered and Man in Custody

A 22 year old Ottawa man, who frequents the Brockville area, is in custody this morning pending a bail hearing later today after being arrested early this morning in connection with a pair of stolen vehicle investigations over the past several days.

On Saturday morning at approximately 9:30 Brockville Police received a call from a Balmoral Place resident telling officers his blue 2005 Dodge Caravan had been stolen sometime overnight from the parking lot. The subsequent police investigation led police to believe the 22 year old man was responsible for the theft and advised area police.

Last evening, Brockville Police received information from the Ottawa Police Service they had recovered the Blue Caravan stolen Saturday in Brockville and arrangements were made to recover the vehicle.

At 10:50 p.m. last evening Brockville Police communications centre received information from OPP Communications that their officers attempted to stop a white Ford Fusion entering Brockville for a Highway Traffic infraction but were unsuccessful. They had later learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Ottawa and may be in the city.

The 22 year old suspect was later located inside Tim Horton’s on William Street by officers’ shortly after midnight and taken into custody on a variety of offences in relation to the two stolen vehicles and for breach the conditions of his Recognizance for being out past his curfew. The stolen Ford Fusion was later located in the Sheridan Mews area of downtown and recovered.

Both the Ottawa and Brockville Police Services are continuing their investigations.

Arrest Warrants Executed

A pair of Brockville area men is in custody this morning awaiting a bail hearing later today after arrest warrants were executed yesterday.

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) squad located a 41 year old Brockville man in Smiths Falls yesterday who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend for his intermittent sentence at the Brockville Jail Friday October 13th. Officers from the Brockville Police Service returned the man to Brockville and he is appearing in Brockville Court later today for a Bail Hearing.

A 55 year old Cardinal man was arrested by Prescott OPP yesterday evening for an outstanding warrant after Failing to Appear in Brockville Court on June 10th, 2016 on Breach of Probation charges. The man was charged by Prescott OPP in September 2015 and released on a Promise to Appear at the time. He failed to appear at a subsequent court appearance in June of 2016 and the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. He will appear as well in Brockville Court today for a Bail Hearing.

Impaired Driver

A 61 year old Brockville man is facing charges of impaired driving and driving with over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood following a Sunday morning traffic stop.

Approximately 10:45 am Sunday morning Brockville Police received a call of a grey Ford Ranger pickup driving very slow in the area of Adley Drive and Brock Streets in the City’s west end. The caller reported that just prior the driver was observed to grab a beer from the rear of the truck before driving away.

Officers in the area were able to locate the truck and performed a traffic stop where they concluded the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest for impaired driving and conveyed to the Brockville Police station where breath tests were conducted resulting in a further charge of driving with over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

Stolen Motorcycle Recovered

A Brockville area man who reported his 2003 Honda Magna Motorcycle stolen in September has been reunited with his bike.

The man posted pictures of his stolen motorcycle on Kijiji asking people with information to come forward. A Brockville couple walking in the area of Park Street and Front Avenue noticed a motorcycle similar to the picture they had seen in the Kijiji ad and contacted the victim and police.

Officers attended to the motorcycle shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday and confirmed through the vehicle identification number (VIN) it was the stolen bike from September. The motorcycle was seized and returned to its owner.

The investigation is continuing.

Domestic Dispute

On the 14th of October, 2017 at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the South area of the City. Officers attended the residence and investigation revealed that an assault had taken place with alcohol being a factor in the incident. The person responsible for the assault was a local, 22 year old, female. She was arrested and released once sober with documents compelling her to court.

Stolen Vehicle

On the 14th of October, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Brockville Police Service took a report of a stolen vehicle in the Central area of the City. The vehicle in question was a 2005 Dodge Caravan blue in colour bearing a licence plate of BFKV707. If anyone has information or observes the above mentioned vehicle, please contact the local police agency.

Dangerous and Impaired Driving

On the 14th of October, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Brockville Police Service received information from the OPP that a grey GMC pickup truck had fled the scene of an accident in their jurisdiction. It was suspected that the driver was heading towards Brockville and possibly impaired. This was suspected due to his witnessed driving actions and video caught on another driver’s dash camera. Within minutes, phone calls began coming into the Brockville Police Service from multiple witnesses. They were reporting the above described vehicle driving erratically, at a high rate of speed, disregarding red lights and signs, with significant damage and no tires as it was operating on the wheel rims. Brockville Police Officers quickly located the vehicle and boxed him into the roadside preventing him from continuing to drive. The suspect driver is a 36 year old, local male, who was arrested for dangerous and impaired operation. His breath samples indicated he was driving at 3 and 1/2 times the legal limit. He was released once sober with a court date and luckily, no one was injured.

Theft from Vehicles

On the 15th of October, 2017 at approximately 12:00 a.m., the Brockville Police Service received a report of a male going through cars in the South East residential area of the City. Officers located a 22 year old, local male, matching the description in the area who is well known to police. The male was arrested for trespass by night, possession of break and enter tools and breach of probation. He was released with documents compelling him to court.

Intoxicated Male

On the 14th of October, 2017 at approximately 11p.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to a report of a local, 43 year old male, passed out in the downtown area of the City. The male was located and found to be intoxicated and possibly in medical distress due to laboured breathing. He was transported to the Brockville General Hospital for care. He was later released once sober and issued a fine for being intoxicated in a public place.

Motor Vehicle Collision

On the 14th of October, 2017 at approximately 6a.m., the Brockville Police Service came across a fresh motor vehicle collision. Officers observed a Ford Focus that had lost control while travelling North Bound on Ormond St. between Central Ave. and Bramshot Ave. The vehicle veered off of the roadway striking some property being a Cogeco cable box. The distance in which the vehicle lost control raises concerns and is why we are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Constable Dave Jeggo.

Shoplifting and Drug Possession

On the 12th of October, 2017 at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to a North End department store in regards to a theft. There, a local, 34 year old male, was arrested for theft. The total value of the theft was $286.00. During the arrest approximately 5 grams of Marijuana and 2 pills, suspected to be speed, were seized from the male in custody. He was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and possession of the narcotics.

Theft of Lawn Furniture

On the morning of October 9th 2017, police were contacted about a theft of wicker furniture taken from a downtown residence sometime late Sunday evening. Police were alerted to a suspect leaving with the furniture on a bike trailer. Police located the furniture a short time later at a center town address and spoke to a male suspect. The owner of the furniture attended the location to pick up his furniture and did not want to pursue with any charges in the spirit of Thanksgiving. The male suspect was warned for possession of stolen property.

Domestic Dispute

On Monday night shortly after 6pm, police attended a south end home for a domestic disturbance between a male and female. The male involved fled prior to police arriving. There were no injuries reported and the matter is still being investigated.

Vehicle Stop leads to Towed vehicle

On Monday afternoon at approximately 4:30 pm, police officers stopped a blue Honda Civic for an expired validation sticker. During the course of investigating further, it was determined that the driver was the owner of the uninsured vehicle and was an unlicensed driver. A 46 year old female driver from Smiths Falls was charged with numerous Highway Traffic Act violations as well as drive with no insurance and the vehicle was towed.

Fire Alarm at Courthouse

Tuesday morning shortly after 9:00am, the Provincial Courthouse building was evacuated for an active fire alarm. The fire department attended and along with court officer found the alarm to be false and all staff was permitted back in to the building.

Public intoxication/breach of bail conditions

Early Saturday morning officers located a 24 year old male sleeping at the side of the Courthouse Ave.  The male was in such an intoxicated state that paramedics were contacted.  It was discovered that he was on bail conditions not to consume alcohol.   He was treated at the Brockville General Hospital and released with a future court date.

Public Intoxication

On Saturday at 2:00 pm a 63 year old male was arrested for his own safety as he was intoxicated and challenging tenants in his building to fights.  He was held until sober and released.

Bail Violations

A 36 year old female was located at a licensed establishment in the downtown core contrary to her probation conditions.  She was arrested/charged and released with a future court date.

Impaired

At 2:40 am today, a 40 year old male was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample after officers observed him driving the wrong way on a one way street.  When officers attempted to stop the vehicle he drove over a curb.  The vehicle continued for a short time until he hit a cement pole.  The male then attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested a short distance later.

Police seek witnesses to disturbance

Investigators are seeking witnesses to a lunch time disturbance yesterday in the area of Tim Horton’s on William Street by the railway tracks around the noon hour.

Staff from Brockville Collegiate contacted the Brockville Police to report some of their students had come by the office reporting while they were walking back to the school from Tim Horton’s along the walking path by the railway tracks an unidentified man began yelling at the students and threatening them. He was accompanied by a young woman at the time who did not participate in the yelling.

The man is described as being tall and thin and approximately 30 years of age with blonde hair. He was last seen between 12:15-12:30 p.m. in the area of Tm Horton’s and officers would like to speak with him and his girlfriend.

Food Drive today at the Real Canadian Superstore

This afternoon from 4-5 pm come out and support the local Food Drive at the Real Canadian Superstore by stuffing a Brockville Police car full of groceries for the Local Food Banks.

Members of the Brockville Police Service will be on hand to assist the Food Drive and look forward to seeing everyone there

Patient returned to Brockville General

Security staff with the Brockville General Hospital contacted the Brockville Police late last evening requesting assistance with a patient.

At approximately 10:40 pm Brockville Police responded to the Ormond Street railway tracks where security staff from the hospital who had stopped a patient who fled moments earlier. Police and security staff were able to apprehend the individual without incident, and return them safely to BGH.

No one was injured during the incident.

Warrant Executed

A 25 year old Brockville man was arrested shortly after 11 p.m. last evening for an outstanding warrant for failing to attend for his fingerprints last month.

Brockville Police received a call from the man’s mother after the man was causing a disturbance at his mother’s residence and refusing to leave. As police responded to the residence the man fled only to be located a short time later by responding officers near the residence.

The man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and conveyed to Brockville Police headquarters where he was held in custody until sober and released with a future court date.
