Intimate Partner Violence Leads to Arrest

On March 4, 2025, at about 5:45pm, police received a 911 call regarding information of a female in distress. The location was residence on Glengarry Rd. where children were present. Officers responded quickly and investigation revealed that the female victim and her 42-year-old, boyfriend were involved in a dispute. It escalated to the point that the male subject assaulted her by slamming her on the ground and then choking her.

The subject was placed under arrest and charged with the offences of assault and overcome resistance by choking. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Report of Firearm Possession

On March 5, 2025, at about 9:30am, police received a call to attend the area of Water St., in relation to two males that were in possession of a handgun. It was described that the males were pointing the gun at various objects and discharging it as they were walking the street. Officers responded quickly and located the two subjects at the rear of City Hall, on Water St.

The two males were arrested at gunpoint and no one was injured in this incident. Police found the handgun in question, which was determined to be an airsoft pistol. They were identified as local, 17-year-old and 19-year-old, males. The 17-year-old, male was charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and released with conditions and a future court date. The 19-year-old, male was charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and two counts of fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Female Arrested for Drug Trafficking and Bail Violations

On March 5, 2025, at about 10:15am, officers were at the Ontario Court of Justice on Court House Square. While there, they were assisting with security at the courthouse. During this time, they discovered a 56-year-old, female who attended the court while in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and a scale. It was learned that she was on an undertaking with conditions to abstain from possessing non-prescription drugs.

The subject was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and fail to comply with undertaking. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Recent Statistics from the Week of February 22nd – March 1st

The Brockville Police Service continues to be very busy. During the week of February 22nd – March 1st, we experienced 359 calls for service. Out of those incidents, police made 27 arrests and laid a total of 69 Criminal Code and 14 traffic related charges. Many of these incidents involve individuals failing to comply with their bail and probation condition. The following are only a few incidents from this time period.  

Arrest made in Relation to Aggravated Assault

On February 26th, 2025, police responded to a residential address in the City’s south end regarding information received about a female with significant injuries to her body. Police located the female, with obvious and substantial injuries. With the assistance of Emergency Medical Services, the female was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed that the victim’s 31-year-old, son was responsible for the injuries. The male was subsequently arrested for aggravated assault and held in custody pending a bail hearing. The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in Court at a future date.

Impaired Driving

People continue to do this, unfortunately, regardless of the public education provided. On February 27, 2025, at about 10:10pm, police received a 911 call regarding a 36-year-old, male driver in the area of William St., who had appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel at an intersection.

Officers located the male driver in the area and stopped the vehicle. A roadside breath demand was made and the test sample resulted in a fail. The male was placed under arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. There, it was determined that he was driving while impaired. His driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. He was released with a future court date.

Arrest Made After Nude Male Disturbs the Peace

On March 1, 2025, at about 7:00am, police received multiple 911 calls regarding a male who was running in the area of Cedar St., yelling and shouting. It was later determined he had continued running to James St. W., and was in fact nude while attempting to enter peoples’ vehicles.

Officers located the 26-year-old, male and he attempted to flee. Shortly after he was taken into custody. During the arrest, the subject punched an officer in the face. He was charged and held for a bail hearing for offences of indecent act, assault peace officer and causing a disturbance. No one was seriously injured in this incident.

Break and Enter at Shoppers Drug Mart

On March 2, 2025 at about 1:30am, police received an alarm call at Shoppers Drug Mart on Parkedale Ave. Officers responded and found that one of the windows had been smashed.

The area was cleared and the suspects had fled prior to arrival. Investigation revealed that two suspects had used a hammer to gain entry by breaking the window and stole two cabinets filled with high end perfume. The approximate value of the merchandise is $40,000. As the investigation is ongoing, we encourage anyone with any information to report it to the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

News Release February 23-24th, 2025

Arrest Made in Relation to an Assault During a Rideshare

On February 23, 2025, at about 1:30am, police received a 911 call to attend the area of Stewart Blvd., regarding a report of two people involved in a fight. Officers arrived and ensured the involved parties were separated.

Investigation revealed that multiple people were traveling from the Montreal to Toronto, as part of a rideshare. During the travels, a 28-year-old, male passenger, became belligerent towards the driver. The vehicle stopped in Brockville to remove the subject, which resulted in the altercation becoming physical. The subject assaulted the driver by striking him and attended a nearby gas station with the driver’s bag. The driver received minor injuries.

The subject was located and property was retrieved. The subject was making discriminatory comments towards one of the officer’s and actually slapped the officer in the face with his passport. The male was placed under arrest and was resistant. Once searched, it was found that the male was in possession of a quantity of fentanyl and also on probation with conditions. He was taken to the Brockville Police Service to remain in custody. While there, he purposely urinated through the cell block area. The driver who was assaulted did not wish to pursue charges, however, the subject was held for bail for the offences of assault peace officer, mischief under $5,000, possession of fentanyl and fail to comply with probation.

Intimate Partner Violence

On February 23, 2025, at about 9:00pm, police received a 911 call from a female advising she had been locked out of her apartment on Perth St. Officers arrived and the female advised that she has been dating her 26-year-old, boyfriend from Belleville. The couple had been dating for about a week and a half. He was there visiting for the night when they engaged in an argument over the female’s young child. While she attempted to diffuse the situation, the male subject actually struck her in the face. When she tried to call for help, the subject smashed her phone and computer.

The subject was placed under arrest and charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. The victim suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Indecent Act

On February 24, 2025, at about 5:00pm, police received a call regarding a male who was exposed in the female washroom, at the Parkedale Ave. Tim Horton’s. Information was that a female employee attended to the public washroom and located a 33-year-old, male who was naked and had caused a mess by throwing toilet paper everywhere. He refused to leave when staff asked him to do so.

Officer’s arrived and located the subject. It was learned that he had recently been placed on his fourth probation order with conditions. He was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service where he was held in custody for a bail hearing. During his custody, he was attempting self-harm and officers had to intervene to prevent the harm. He was charged with an indecent act in a public place and four counts of fail to comply with probation.

Communication Condition Breach in Relation to Intimate Partner Violence

On February 24, 2025, at about 5:00pm, police received information from a victim, that her 39-year-old, ex-boyfriend has been attempting to communicate with her. The male subject was on two different probation orders with conditions to abstain from communicating with the female, as a result of previous domestic violence incidents.

Investigation revealed that multiple messages and photos had been sent to the victim by the subject. The evidence was collected and the male was located and arrested in the area of Park St. on February 25, 2025, at about 6:30pm. He was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of fail to comply with probation.

 

News Release February 24th, 2025

Joint Services Project Results

In the fall of 2024, the Brockville Police Service, and the Gananoque Police Service initiated a drug trafficking investigation dubbed Project Arlington. Project Arlington was designed to arrest members involved in violent criminal networks and disrupt their locally focused illegal narcotics distribution network. The investigation lead to the issuance and execution of several judicial authorizations resulting in the arrest of eight local individuals totaling more than 50 criminal charges and the seizure of;

  • In excess of 2.5 kg of cocaine;
  • In excess of 1800 methamphetamine tablets;
  •  250 hydrocodone tablets;
  •  227 oxycodone tablets;
  • 10 suspected fentanyl tablets;
  • In excess of 32g crystal methamphetamine;
  • 600g MDMA;
  • 198g   Psilocybin mushrooms; and
  • 187 Clonazepam tablets.
  • 1 restricted loaded handgun
  • 4 long guns
  • In excess of $100,000.00 in proceeds of crime

The charges include, but are not limited to; 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – schedule 1;
  • Trafficking in schedule 1 substances;
  • Possession of proceeds of crime;
  • Failing to comply with undertakings;
  • Breach of conditional sentence order;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm;
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon;

Project Arlington resulted from collaboration between the Brockville Police Service, Gananoque Police Service, The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Led Biker Enforcement Unit, OPP Community Street Crime Unit as well as the Smiths Falls Police Service and the Cornwall Police Service. The successful completion of this investigation was made possible through funding provided by the Ontario Government, Ministry of the Solicitor General, in which the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario supported this Joint Forces investigation. 

 

News Release February 21st, 2025

Police Operation

This morning at about 5:30am, there was a police operation in the Southwest area of Brockville. This was an incident that was initiated by police. While the incident remains under investigation, specific details cannot be released at this time. To clarify some public concerns; no one was injured in this incident, this incident did not involve gunshots or reports thereof and there were individual(s) taken into custody. Further information will be released at a later date.

Family Dispute Leads to Arrest

On February 20, 2025, at about 10:30pm, police received a 911 call to attend a residence on William St. Information was that the complainant was stating that her 43-year-old, son, was causing damage at the residence.

Investigation revealed that the 43-year-old, male was at the residence and in a dispute with his mother. He struck her in the face and shoved her to the ground before smashing out a window to the residence. The victim suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The male was arrested by police and released with a future court date for the offences of assault, mischief under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with probation.

Intimate Partner Violence

On February 21, 2025, at about 12:30am, police received a 911 call regarding domestic dispute. Officers attended a residence and located the couple involved. Investigation revealed that a male and his 38-year-old, girlfriend, were arguing when it became physical. It was discovered that she struck him in the head and was pinning him down. The victim suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The female subject was arrested and charged with assault and released on conditions with a future court date.

News Release February 14-18th, 2025

Impaired Driving

On February 14, 2025, at about 3:45pm, an officer was on patrol in the area of Reynolds Drive and Bartholomew Street. While there, they observed a vehicle on the lawn of the residence bordering both streets and stuck in the snow.

The officer identified the 51-year-old, male driver. While speaking to him about the events of what took place, the officer detected that the driver had been consuming alcohol. It was also determined that the during the events, the vehicle would have been operated in a dangerous manner. A roadside breath sample was taken and screening device registered a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. There, it was confirmed that the driver was impaired. His vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence was seized and charged with dangerous driving, operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. He was released with a future court date.

Arrest Made for Probation Breaches

On February 18, 2025, police received multiple calls for service throughout the day, regarding a 29-year-old, female who was causing various disturbances. Multiple agencies and resources were attempting to assist the female throughout day. During this, she would become agitated and resistant to any assistance and cause problems to the point police would be notified.

Officers were called to attend the Brockville General Hospital, as she was continued to cause a disturbance there and was disruptive to patients and staff. After multiple failed attempts to provide assistance and connect with resources, she was placed under arrest for two counts of failing to comply with probation as she was failing to keep the peace. She was held in custody for a bail hearing as there was a need to prevent further disturbances. 

Male Arrested for Breaching Probation Conditions

On February 18, 2025, at about 8:00pm, police received a call to attend a residence on Perth Street, to assist a property owner in clearing a condemned building, prior to sealing access. The concern from the property owner was that it was possible unhoused individuals may be inside, trespassing, on the premises.

Officers attended and a 41-year-old, male ran from the building. He was located a short distance away and taken into custody. Officers continued to clear the building and located a female hiding inside. It was then learned that the 41-year-old, male who attempted to flee, was on probation with conditions to abstain from communicating with female for safety reasons. He was charged with failing to comply with probation and held for bail. Once the building was determined to be vacant, it was secured to prevent access.  

 Threats and Assault Lead to an Arrest in an Intimate Partner Relationship

 On February 19, 2025, at about 8:00am, police received a 911 call regarding what sounded like an argument, at a residence on Brock Street. Shouting and threats could be heard coming from the residence.

Officers arrived and the investigation revealed that a 36-year-old, male, and his girlfriend, were in an argument. It was learned that the male spit in her face and caused her to bump her head on a wall. During this he also made threats to burn their residence down and cause her to be involved in a motor vehicle collision. Due to the concern for safety, he was placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing for the offences of uttering threats and assault.   

News Release – February 9th, 2025

Arrest Made in Relation to Sexual Assault

On February 9th, 2025, members of the Brockville Police Service arrested and charged a local business owner with sexual offences involving a teenage employee.

The accused is identified as 65-year-old, Satkunamajah THANGAMAJAH, who is the owner of a frozen food retailer in town. Mr. THANGAMAJAH has been charged with 4 counts of Sexual Assault on a Person under 16, 4 counts of Sexual Interference and 1 count of Making Child Pornography.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims.  Any victim, witness or anyone with information is being asked to contact Detective Graham Coe at 613-342-0127 extension 4245.

News Release – February 7th, 2025

Arrest Made as a Result of an Assault Investigation

 On February 7, 2025, at about 7:45pm, police received a 911 call in relation to a disturbance in a parking lot, in the area of Cartier Court.

Police arrived and investigation revealed that there was an altercation between two males over a parking related issue. A 38-year-old, male, approached the male victim, to confront him over parking too close to his vehicle. What started as a verbal argument turned physical, when the 38-year-old, male struck the other instigating a fight. The two had gone to the ground and the subject got up and kicked the victim when on the ground. Both males had received non-life-threatening injuries.

The 38-year-old, subject was arrested and charged with assault. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Increase in ATM Distraction Thefts

The Brockville Police Service has seen in rise in incidents where suspect(s) approach individuals at ATMS under the pretense of offering assistance, only to distract them and steal their debit cards.  In these cases, suspects create an opportunity to swap the victim’s card with a ‘look-alike’.  For example, the suspect(s) will cause the victim to drop their card on the ground, then pick it up for the victim while keeping the original.

Stay Alert when using ATMS.  Always exercise caution if being approached by a stranger.     

 

News Release – February 3, 2025

Male Arrested After Threats Made on Social Media

On February 3, 2025, at about 5:00pm, police received information regarding a 46-year-old, male, who was posting specific threatening messages, publicly, on Facebook. These messages were indicating that the male was upset with his health care professional. He expressed a desire to cause harm to the victim by killing him, among other threats and insults. Police had a heightened concern for safety.

The subject was located at his residence in the area of Macodrum Drive. After officers made contact, he was extremely agitated, and unwilling to turn himself over to police peacefully. The Brockville Police Service, Emergency Response Team, attended the scene quickly and ensured that the individual was contained, while a warrant to enter the residence was obtained. Negotiations were attempted at length, with a negative result. In fact, the subject became more agitated and began making other threatening comments eluding to acts of violence.

The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit – East Region, was notified of the situation and attended to assist. They assessed the situation and executed the warrant, taking the subject into custody. The subject was taken to the Brockville General Hospital for a health assessment. Once complete, he was charged with uttering threats and held for a bail hearing. 

Driver Impaired by Drugs

On January 31, 2025, at about 4:30pm, police received a 911 call regarding a 35-year-old, female, alone, operating her vehicle in the area of 25 Central Avenue. The vehicle was stopped in the area and the witness had a concern with the way the driver appeared. The driver was described as “out of it.”

When the vehicle was approached, the driver then fled the area. Officers responded and located the suspect vehicle in the area Stewart Boulevard and Central Avenue. The officer observed a quantity of methamphetamine in the vehicle beside the driver. Based on the officer’s observations of the driver’s state, the driver was arrested for further testing. Testing was performed by a Drug Recognition Expert, which determined that the female driver was impaired by drugs. Her driver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and she was charged with operation while impaired by drugs and possession of methamphetamine. She was released with a future court date.
