SCAM ALERT

Grandparent & Bail Scams on the Rise

We’re seeing an increase in grandparent scams. Fraudsters call pretending to be a grandchild or police officer, claiming your loved one is in trouble and needs bail money immediately.

We have had several phone calls reporting they have received a call from ‘a lawyer’ reporting to be involved. One victim surrendered over $5000 and drove to Kingston to check on their loved one, who was confirmed to not involved in any police incident or bail related scenario.

What to watch for:

  • Caller claims to be your grandchild or a lawyer/police officer on their behalf.
  • You’re told not to speak to anyone and to withdraw or send money urgently.
  • A “courier” may be sent to your home to collect cash.

REMEMBER:

  • Police will never demand cash or send someone to your home to pick up money.
  • Always verify the caller by reaching out to family or contacting police directly.
  • If in doubt—hang up and call us.

Let’s protect our loved ones, especially seniors, by spreading the word.
