Suspicious Activity at Rotary Park

The Brockville Police Service is currently investigating suspicious activity that occurred at the Rotary Park Splash Pad on the 3rd of July, 2024. On the 11th of July, 2024, Police received a report of three males taking photos of individuals, while using the splash pad, particularly children. When confronted, the males claimed they were taking photos for a fundraiser on behalf of Brockville General Hospital.

In this case, the males requested the name, phone number, and email address of the individuals, claiming they would send them the photos. Brockville General Hospital and the Brockville & District Hospital Foundation have confirmed that they have no individuals acting in such capacity.

The males were described as well dressed, using high end camera equipment.

The Brockville Police Service would like to remind members of the public to exercise caution when providing personal information to unknown parties. Further, the Brockville Police Service encourages members of the public to report any suspicious activity.

Intimate Partner Violence

On June 29, 2024, at about 1:30am, police received a call regarding an assault that had taken place in the area of Reynolds Dr. Investigation revealed that a 32-year-old, female had assaulted her boyfriend by striking him in the head multiple times with her hand. The male received non-life-threatening injuries and the female subject was arrested. She was charged with assault and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

R.I.D.E. Program

On June 29, 2024, the Brockville Police Service conducted multiple R.I.D.E. programs in conjunction with MADD (Mother Against Drunk Driving). During the event, police were successful in educating the public, along with removing three drivers from our roads, making our community a little safer. Here are some of the details about what took place:

  • A 55-year-old, female was stopped and roadside screening breath sample was taken in the area of King St. E. The test resulted in a fail, which, lead to her being arrested. Further testing confirmed impairment and that she was operating over the legal limit. She was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. Her vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and released with a future court date.
  • A 43-year-old, male was stopped and a roadside screening breath sample was taken in the area of Stewart Blvd. The test resulted in a fail and he was arrested. Further testing confirmed impairment and that he was driving while over the legal limit. He was also charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. His vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and released with a future court date.
  • A 67-year-old, male was stopped in the area of King St. E. and a roadside breath sample was taken. This test resulted in warn, which is when the sample taken is found to be in the range of 50mg to under 80mg of alcohol in one’s blood. This results in a three-day driver’s licence suspension along with reinstatement fees. The driver’s licence was suspended.

 

Intimate Partner Violence

On June 30, 2024, at about 7:00pm, police received a call regarding and assault that had taken place at a residence on Reynolds Dr. Investigation revealed that a 58-year-old, male had assaulted his common law, girlfriend, by striking her with his hand. The female had minor, non-life-threatening, injuries. As a result, the male subject was placed under arrest for assault. He was later released on conditions and a future court date for that offence.

News Release – June 27, 2024

Male Arrested After Trespassing and Causing Damage

On June 27, 2024, shortly after midnight, police received a call in the area of Oak St., regarding a male looking through a residence’s windows. Police attended and it was learned that a 24-year-old, male subject, was trespassing on the property and looking in windows of the residence. When the home owner noticed and confronted the subject, he smashed a bottle on the home owner’s vehicle, causing minor damage. The subject was located nearby and was arrested. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of trespass by night and mischief under $5,000.00.

Male Charged for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Variety of Drugs

On June 23, 2024, at about 10:00pm, police received a 911 call regarding a 20-year-old, male who had attended a residence on First Ave. The subject was on conditions not to be around the occupants of the residence while under the influence of drugs, which, investigation revealed, the subject was under the influence of Fentanyl. He made multiple attempts to gain entry to the house at multiple windows and doors. Police arrived quickly and the male was arrested for failing to comply with his Recognizance (peace bond). When the subject was searched, officers located a significant quantity of various drugs, including Fentanyl, Xanax, Psilocybin (magic mushrooms), Cocaine, Cannabis, Ecstasy and Dilaudid. The estimated street value for the quantities seized is approximately $115,000.00. The male subject was held for a bail hearing for the offences of breach of Recognizance, possession for the purpose of distributing cannabis and six counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in the multiple other substances; Fentanyl, Xanax, Psilocybin (magic mushrooms), Cocaine, Ecstasy and Dilaudid. 

 

Intimate Partner Violence Leads to Charges

On June 23, 2024, at about 8:45pm, police received a 911 call at the Days Inn, regarding the sound of a male yelling at a female that he was going to smash her phone and her yelling for him not to hurt her. Police arrived and spoke to the couple involved, who are both local to Brockville. Investigation revealed that a 64-year-old, male had broken the female’s cellphone and assaulted her by threatening and gesturing to strike her with a bicycle lock. The male was placed under arrest for mischief and assault with a weapon. He was charged with those offences and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Speeding Leads to Stunt Driving Charges

On June 23, 2024, at about 8:30pm, police were patrolling the area of North Augusta Rd. when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer measured speeds of 111 km/h, in a posted 60 km/h zone. The 55-year-old, male driver was operating a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The male’s truck was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and charged with perform stunt – excessive speed and drive with no currently validated permit.

 

Intimate Partner Violence Leads to Charges

On June 22, 2024, at about 4:30pm, police received a report of a dispute between a couple, in their vehicle, on Laurier Blvd. The dispute continued as the couple made their way to a residence on Brighton Cres. Police spoke to those involved and investigation revealed that the 35-year-old, female assaulted her male partner by throwing multiple drinking cups at him. The male was not seriously injured in the incident. The female was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. She was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

 

News Release – June 17 – 18, 2024

Elderly Male Located Through the Alzheimer’s Society, Project Lifesaver

On June 18, 2024, at about 5:30pm, police received a call regarding an elderly male diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, who was missing from his residence, in the central area of the city. The individual was registered with the Project Lifesaver program through the Alzheimer’s Society. This is a great program where technology is used in search-and-rescue efforts to locate registered clients who are likely to wander. This program and its technology will assist in locating your loved ones faster, increasing the potential for a safe return. Which, fortunately, was the case yesterday. The client was located in the area of Highway 2, East of Brockville in less than an hour after police were notified. When located he was with a passerby who assisted as they had concerns for the male as he appeared lost. With the assistance of the Project Lifesaver program, and good Samaritans, the gentleman was returned home safely.

 

Various Acts of Mischief and Theft Lead to Charges

Throughout the day on June 17, 2024, police received multiple calls regarding a specific 12-year-old, female involved in various offences. The reports initiated with a complaint at about 10:00am, where it was learned that the subject has spray painted derogatory comments about another youth, on a property downtown. Later that afternoon, it was discovered that the female had also caused damage to the residence of a family member and stolen items as well. The female was located and arrested. She was released to a guardian on conditions with a future court date for the offences of theft under $5,000.00 and two counts of mischief under $5,000.00.

Neighbour Dispute Leads to Assault Charges

On June 14, 2024, at about 7:30am, police received a 911 call in regards to an altercation stemming from a neighbour dispute in the area of King St. E. Police attended quickly and investigation revealed that a 31-year-old, female was in an argument with two other neighbouring individuals, over a complaint of a barking dog. This escalated to the point that the 31-year-old, female subject deployed bear spray on one of the neighbours and made threats to cause harm to the other. The 31-year-old, subject was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Two Subjects Arrested in Relation to a Robbery

On June 14, 2024 at about 8:15pm, police received a report of a robbery that had taken place in the area of Giant Tiger on Park St. Investigation revealed that the victim was with two other males and knew the subjects. During their conversation, an unprovoked assault took place where the victim was assaulted by the subjects by being punched. One of the subjects, who is 26 years of age, brandished a knife while striking the victim. Luckily, the victim was not more seriously injured and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. When the subjects fled, the victim noticed that his cellphone had been stolen.

On June 15, 2024, at about 5:00pm, both male subjects involved in the incident were located on Stewart Blvd. and arrested for robbery. After further investigation, one male was released unconditionally and the second, 26-year-old, male was held for a bail hearing and charged with the offences of robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and fail to comply with probation.

 

General Calls and Warrant Execution

Between the dates of June 14 – June 16, 2024, the Brockville Police Service received 161 calls for service. During that time officers made 12 arrests, four of which individuals were held for bail. This resulted in 17 Criminal Code Charges and five Traffic Charges. Four of the arrests were as a result of arrest warrants being executed.

  • 42-year-old, female arrested on a warrant for failing to comply with release order bail conditions. Held for a bail hearing.
  • 14-year-old, male arrested on a warrant for failing to attend court and theft under $5,000. Released with a new court date.
  • 43-year-old, male arrested on a warrant for theft under $5,000, failing to attend court and failing to attend for fingerprints. He was released with a future court date.
  • 40-year-old, female was arrested on a warrant in relation to an intimate partner violence investigation. She was turned over to the OPP for their investigation.

News Release – June 11 – 14, 2024

Significant Storm Resulted in Multiple Calls for Service

Throughout the night of June 13-June 14, 2024, there was a windstorm causing various concerns for public safety. There were multiple reports of trees and wires down throughout the City. At 11:00pm, police received a report of a tree branch that had fallen in the area of Waverly Dr. and First Ave., blocking the roadway. Another motorist pulled over in attempts to pull the branch off the roadway. While doing so, in the poor conditions, another vehicle driving in the area did not see the branch or the individuals attempting to move it. That vehicle struck the branch, which in turn, struck one of the individuals moving the branch. This resulted in non-life-threatening injuries however, had high potential for serious injury or worse. The driver of the vehicle was charged with a failing to operate the vehicle according to driver’s licence conditions. This is a good reminder for everyone to be cautious when near the roadway and wear reflective or high visibility clothing in low light, and poor conditions. Further, you can always contact the police to report these instances so roadways can be cleared by the proper agencies, safely.

 

Impaired Driver Involved in Rollover Collision

On June 13, 2024, at about 9:00pm, police received reports of a pickup truck that was involved in a solo, rollover collision, in the area of the 401 and Stewart Blvd. Officers arrived and identified a 28-year-old, male as the driver involved. Paramedics attended the scene to assess the male, however, he was not transported to the hospital. Officers began investigating the driver for impaired operation of the vehicle. The male then failed a roadside screening breath test and was taken into custody for further testing. Later, it was confirmed that he was driving over the legal limit and driving impaired. His vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. He was released with a future court date.

 

Multiple Arrested in Relation to Drug, Weapons and Fraud Investigation

On June 11, 2024, officers from the Brockville Police Service were investigating a group of individuals in relation to drug trafficking. Investigation revealed evidence to support the belief that the officers had. A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle at about 5:00pm in the area of Parkedale Ave. and Stewart Blvd. Four of the vehicle occupants were placed under arrest. The vehicle was searched which resulted in the officers locating a Conducted Energy Weapon (TASER), brass knuckles, a quantity of cocaine, various drug paraphernalia including alcohol swabs and drug cutting agents. It was also determined that some of the subject’s behaviour was in relation to fraudulent activity while selling cell phones. As a result, the vehicle was towed and the following is a list of subjects and their charges.

  • 41-year-old, male held for bail for offences of:
    • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
    • Possession of cocaine
    • Fraud under $5,000.00
    • Fail to comply with Probation Order
    • Five counts of failing to comply with weapons prohibitions
  • 30-year-old, female released on conditions with a court date for the offences of:
    • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon
    • Possession of cocaine
    • Fraud under $5,000.00
  • 28-year-old, male released on conditions with a court date for the offences of:
    • Fraud under $5,000.00

 

News Release – June 8 – 9, 2024

Charge Laid Involving Intimate Partner Violence

On June 9, 2024, at about 5:00pm, police responded to a residence on Kyle Crt., regarding an allegation of assault. Police spoke to a couple there and found that the male and a 27-year-old, female were engaged in an argument over household routines. As a result, the female subject struck the male several times. The male received non-life-threatening injuries. The female was arrested and charged with assault. She was later released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Disturbance by Fighting

On June 9, 2024, at about 9:30pm, police received a report of a fight at a residence on Brock St. Officers attended and spoke to the individuals involved. Two females were identified as the ones responsible for the altercation. One of the females was located out front of the residence, intoxicated, upon officers’ arrival. It was discovered that the two females engaged in a fight that disturbed residents in the area. The altercation was not deemed an assault and no injuries were received. The intoxicated female was arrested for public intoxication and removed from the area. She was later released once sober. Neither were charged criminally.

 

Residential Fire

On June 8, 2024, at about 8:15pm, police received information that the Brockville Fire Department was responding to an active fire at a residence on Millwood Ave. The Brockville Fire Department responded quickly and contained the fire to the single residence. In fact, it was advised that the fire was mostly contained in an upstairs bedroom of the residence. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident, however, the family was displaced for the time being. The fire is not deemed suspicious and there is no further police investigation.  

News Release – May 31 – June 1, 2024

The Brockville Police Service had another busy weekend. On Friday, May 31, 2024, the Brockville Police Service received an unprecedented 85 calls for service in the 24-hour period. The remainder of the weekend totaled 162 calls for service. During these calls’ officers made seven arrests, laid 23 criminal charges and six traffic related charges. The following is some of the information.

 

Ministry of Transportation Ontario Blitz

On May 31, 2024, the MTO paired up with the Brockville Police Service, to perform inspections on concerning vehicles and remove those that are found to be unsafe vehicles from the roadway. Inspections were performed on many vehicles regarding various concerns like; frame integrity, exhaust systems, unsafe tires, braking systems, etc. In total, 14 unsafe vehicles were removed from the roads in conjunction with 13 traffic related charges being issued.  This event was successful in making our communities roads safer. We look forward to working with the MTO in the future as we continue with our goal of community safety.

 

Impaired Driving

On May 31, 2024, at about 9:30pm, police observed a vehicle in the area of Henry Street parking lot leaving towards Water Street, without headlights on. As the vehicle drove away, the driver squealed the tires. Police stopped the vehicle and identified the driver to be a 23-year-old, male. Alcohol consumption was suspected and a roadside breath sample was taken for testing purposes, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and taken for further testing that confirmed the driver was impaired and operating over the legal limit. The vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and the driver was released with conditions and future court date. The driver was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration over 80mg.

 

Assault Charge Laid in a Family Dispute

On June 1, 2024, at about 9:00am, police received a 911 call regarding a dispute at a residence on Park St. Investigation revealed that a 31-year-old, male was living at a residence with his sibling who was acting as a surety on the male subject’s bail. A dispute between the two started over the subject wanting to leave the residence. This escalated to the point that the male subject threatened to harm his sibling and then open hand slapped them across the face. The male subject was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of uttering threats and assault.

 

Male Subject Attempts to Flee from Court House After Sentencing

On May 31, 2024, at about 11:00am, a 37-year-old, male appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville, to receive his sentencing in relation to the charges of Impaired driving and uttering threats. Once sentenced to a term of custody, the male attempted to flee the from the Court House. Special Constables were able give chase and contain the subject. He was taken into custody and additionally charged with escape lawful custody. He was then transported to the Brockville Jail.

Train Collision with Pedestrian

On June 1, 2024, police informed the public of a fatality collision involving a pedestrian and a train, just West of Perth St. Police have confirmed the identity of the deceased to be a 37-year-old, local male. Circumstances around the event are still under investigation, however, foul play has been ruled out.
