News Release – August 16 – 19, 2024

Intimate Partner Violence

On August 16, 2024, at about 11:00pm, police received a report of an intimate partner violence incident that took place, in the area of Abbott St. Investigation revealed that a male and female who were previously in a relationship, were together at the above location. An altercation ensued between the two. This resulted in the 36-year-old, female assaulting the male by striking him in the head, multiple times. He received non-life-threatening injuries. After the altercation, the male left the address and eventually reported to police.

On August 19, 2024, shortly after midnight, the 36-year-old, female subject turned herself into the Brockville Police Service. She was charged with assault and released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Male Arrested After a Break and Enter

On August 18, 2024, at about 7:30pm, police received a 911 call regarding a male who had smashed a window to the 46 King St. W. building, with a 2×4 piece of lumber. Officers responded quickly and located the 34-year-old, male subject, who had just exited the building. It is believed he wasn’t aware that the building was vacant.

The male was placed under arrest and found to be on two separate probation orders.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offence of break and enter and two counts of failing to comply with probation.    

 

News Release – August 15, 2024

Male Arrested for Weapons Offences, Theft and Multiple Probation Breaches

 

On August 15, 2024, at about 8:45pm, police received a 911 call to attend the area of Henry St., regarding a 40-year-old, male subject wielding an axe. Officers arrived quickly and located the male and arrested him at gunpoint. Luckily, no one was injured.

Investigation revealed that the victim was using the boat launch, and had exited his pickup truck momentarily to check his boat trailer before leaving the area. He noticed that the male subject was leaving the door of the vehicle with the key to his pickup truck. As the subject was walking away, the victim confronted him. At that time, the subject brandished an axe waiving it in a threatening manner at the victim. The subject then made further attempts to leave with the property.

As noted above, officers responded and located the male and took him into custody. It was also discovered that the male subject was currently sentenced to four separate probation orders with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The property was recovered and the male subject was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000.00, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and four counts of fail to comply with probation conditions.

 

News Release August 12 – 13, 2024

Subject Arrested for Breaching Probation Conditions

On August 12, 2024, at about 5:30pm, police received information of someone setting up a campsite on property in the area of Beley St. Officers attended and observed a 26-year-old, male with a tent. The male was upset with police on arrival and became increasingly agitated. Investigation revealed that this was due to the fact that there was a female with him, hiding inside the tent, who he was on probation with conditions to abstain from communicating with. The male subject was arrested for breaching his probation. He began to resist and was kicking the police vehicle and striking the windows with his head. He was held in custody for a bail hearing after being charged with failing to comply with his probation.

 

Arrest Made in Relation to Stolen Purse

On June 23, 2024, at about 4:00pm, police received a 911 call in regards to a disturbance in the area of Perth St. Investigation revealed that a female had items stolen from her purse, while she was waiting at the Via Rail station. The suspect fled with two other males giving chase in attempts to stop him. The suspect was stopped in the area of Delhi St. and a minor altercation occurred. No one was injured in this altercation and the stolen property was recovered. The item that was recovered was the victim’s iPhone. The subjects parted and went on their separate ways, as the witnesses who gave chase had a train departure shortly after. During the investigation, a photo of the suspect was provided to police identifying him to be a 45-year-old, male.

On August 14, 2024, at about 11:30am, the 45-year-old, subject was located in the area of the Circle K convenience store on King St. W. He was placed under arrest and charged with theft under $5,000.00. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Arrest Made After Acts of Dangerous Driving

On August 13, 2024, at about 12:30pm, police received a call of a 44-year-old, female leaving a medical facility on King St. W., with concerns for her mental well-being. Witness information was that she was driving Eastbound on King St., at a high rate of speed, weaving in traffic. Police followed in attempts to stop the female to offer assistance. She was observed driving in a dangerous manner and well over 100 km/h. Officers caught up to her in the area of Maitland and safely stopped the vehicle. She was placed under arrest and charged with dangerous driving. Additionally, she was taken to the Brockville General Hospital for additional services and support.

News Release August 5 – 11, 2024

Fail to Remain

On August 11, 2024, at about 2:00am, police received a call to the area of Hartley St., in response to damage to a fire hydrant. Officers attended and determined that the damage was caused by a vehicle, that had failed to remain at the scene. They hydrant was damaged to the point that there was a significant leak. Evidence at the scene suggests that the suspect vehicle was a newer model, Ford F-150 pickup, with significant damage to the front end. The suspect is still unknown. If anyone has information about this collision, you can report it to the Brockville Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

 

Intimate Partner Violence

On August 5, 2024, at about 4:00pm, police received a call regarding two people yelling at one another in the Metro Parking lot, on King St. W. One caller advised they heard screaming and a male was assaulting a female. Officers arrived and investigation revealed that a 32-year-old, male had assaulted his girlfriend by pushing her and dragging her. This assault was actually interrupted by a bystander who intervened and restrained the subject until officers arrived. The subject was placed under arrest and charged with assault and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Week in Review for August 5 – 11, 2024

During last week, from August 5 – 11, 2024, the Brockville Police Service responded to 410 calls for service. During those calls officers made a total of 21 arrests, of which seven individuals were held for bail hearings. In addition to the arrests, six mental health apprehensions were made as well. Because of it being a busy weekend with various events in our community, such as Ribfest, the Poker Run and Brockville Triathlon, extra officers were brought in to assist. Enforcement efforts resulted in 37 Criminal Code charges and 32 Traffic related charges issued.

News Release – July 30 – 31, 2024

Male Arrested for Violating Bail Conditions for Previous Violence

On July 4, 2024, at about 2:00pm, police received a report regarding a 37-year-old, male failing to comply with his conditions of bail. The subject had been released by courts on June 28, 2024 with conditions to abstain from communicating with or attending within 100 meters of the victim’s residence. These conditions were a result of several violent offences including assault, assault cause bodily harm, uttering threats and forcible confinement. On the reported date, investigation revealed that the subject was within a few meters of the victim’s residence in the area of George St. The male was not located by officers when they arrived. They continued with attempts to locate him and an arrest warrant was issued.

 

On July 30, 2024, at about 10:00pm, the Brockville Police Service learned from the Gananoque Police Service, that they had the male subject in custody, for unrelated matters. The subject was turned over to the Brockville Police Service and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offence of fail to comply with release order.    

 

Theft of Gas

On July 31, 2024, at about 11:00am, police received information of the occupants of a red Dodge Caravan, pumping gas at the Circle K on King St. W., who failed to pay for the fuel.

Investigation revealed that a male passenger exited the vehicle and pumped $20.00 worth of fuel, while the owner of the red Dodge Caravan, remained in the vehicle. They left the area and did not make any attempts to pay. Shortly after, the van was located with the same passenger in the van. He was identified to be a 40-year-old, male. This event is of note, as the same incident had occurred on July 23, 2024, with the same vehicle and owner, but different passenger committing the act of theft. In that incident, the subject was a 22-year-old, male who pumped about $98.00 worth of fuel. Charges of theft under $5,000.00 were laid in both cases on the male subjects. They were released with conditions and a future court dates. 

 

 

News Release – July 26 – 28, 2024

Over the weekend including July 26, 2024 – July 28, 2024, the Brockville Police Service responded to 152 calls for service. In that time there were eight arrests made, three mental health apprehensions and three people held for bail. This resulted in 16 Criminal Code and 18 traffic related charges issued, with a focus on speeding. 

 

Impaired Operation on the Water

On July 26, 2024, at about 6:15pm, police received information of a 25-year-old, male who had been consuming alcohol and is operating a Sea-doo on the river. Police located the male once back on shore, and an alcohol breath screening demand was given. The male, however, refused to provide a sample. Since refusal of a breath demand carries the same penalties as impaired driving itself, the male subject was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand and the Sea-doo was impounded. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Impaired Driver Fails to Remain at the Scene

On July 26, 2024, at about 9:30pm, police received multiple calls regarding a vehicle that struck several other vehicles, in the area of George St. The suspect vehicle was observed fleeing the area. The vehicle was described as having lost a wheel and driving on the rim as it fled. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle, abandoned in the rear parking lot of The Bar, on King St. W. The driver of the vehicle was identified at the scene to be a 55-year-old, male. He was located within that area and believed to be intoxicated by alcohol. He was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. There it was confirmed that he was over the legal limit, while he was operating the vehicle. They vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and charged with operation while impaired, operation with blood alcohol concentration over 80mg, dangerous driving and failure to stop after accident. He was released with conditions and a future court date.   

 

Intoxicated Male Becomes Assaultive

On July 27, 2024, at about 2:00am, police received a report of an intoxicated male laying on the ground in the area of Water St. and St. Andrew St. Officers attended and located a very intoxicated, 28-year-old, male. Officers were attempting to find alternate arrangements for the subject, however there were few options and little cooperation from the subject. Officers then placed him under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place so they could monitor him, as the he was in no condition to care for himself. At that time, the subject became combative with the officers. He kicked, spit, bit and made numerous threats to kill the officers who were attempting to help him. The male was held for a bail hearing for the offences of three counts of assault a peace officer, obstruct peace officer and uttering threats.

 

Arrest Made After Male Throwing Rocks at Random Citizens

On July 28, 2024, at about 9:00pm, police received a 911 call in regards to two young females being followed by a 52-year-old, male in the area of Stewart Blvd. The two females had no knowledge as to who the male was. Investigation revealed that the male was yelling various slurs and throwing rocks at the two females. Officers attended quickly and located the male involved. Due to the concerning nature of his behaviour, he was charged with assault with a weapon and held for a bail hearing. 

News Release – July 20 – 22, 2024

Altercation Escalates Resulting in a Serious Assault

A 23-year-old Prescott man is in custody following an incident that occurred in the City’s south end Saturday evening.

On July 20, 2024 at about 8:30pm, the Brockville Police Service responded to a report of stabbing that had occurred in the area of Brock Street and Tunnel Avenue. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. The victim and the accused were known to each other.

The accused was held in custody to await a bail hearing.

Male Arrested After an Assault with a Weapon

On July 21, 2024, at about 8:00am, police received information of a dispute between two males that resulted in the victim being struck by a vehicle, in the area of Front Ave. at Park St.

Investigation revealed that the two males were in a verbal dispute in that area. The dispute escalated to the point that a 47-year-old, male entered his vehicle and drove towards the other involved male who was sitting on a curb. The 47-year-old, male struck the victim, knocking him backwards on the ground, and fled the area. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after, the 47-year-old, male was located and arrested. He was charged with assault with a weapon and failure to stop after an accident. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Male Arrested for Uttering Threats

On July 22, 2024, at about 12:30am, police received information that a male had smashed out windows of a pickup truck in the area of Kensington Pkwy.

Investigation revealed that a 34-year-old, male subject threatened the victim saying he was going to shoot him. The subject was upset over conversations between the victim and another female. The male subject showed up at the victim’s residence with a baseball bat and was observed smashing out the windows of a pickup truck, belonging to the victim’s brother. He then left the area.

In the evening of July 22, 2024, the male subject was located by police and arrested. He was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of uttering threats and mischief under $5,000.00.

News Release – July 13 – 15, 2024

Family Dispute Leads to Charges

On July 15, 2024, at about 6:15pm, police received a 911 call regarding a dispute taking place at a residence on Cartier Crt. Officers attended and investigation revealed that a 32-year-old, male was in an argument with his mother. This escalated to the point that the subject threatened to kill his mother and threw a flat screen television across the room causing damage. The incident was witnessed by others in the residence at the time. Subsequently, the subject was arrested and charged with uttering threats and mischief under $5,000.00. He was held for a bail hearing.

 

Bystanders Intervene on an Incident of Intimate Partner Violence

On July 14, 2024, at about 12:30pm, police received information that a male had assaulted a female, in the area of George St. Investigation revealed that two off duty police constables, were in the area when the incident occurred. They observed a male and female engaged in an argument that escalated to the point that the 35-year-old, male pushed and punched the female. The two witnesses intervened, stopped the assault, placed the male under arrest and contacted police. It was known that the couple involved were in a relationship. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries. The male subject was charged with assault and held for a bail hearing.   

 

Robbery

On July 13, 2024, at about 7:15pm, police received information of a robbery that had taken place in the area of Park St. Investigation revealed that a victim was in the area of Cowen’s Dairy on Park St., when he was approached by an unknown male. The male asked to speak with him and then proceeded to push the victim to the ground, punch him several times and steal a carrying bag containing some personal hygiene products and a small amount of cash. The suspect fled the area. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries. Police were able to locate a person who was determined to be the suspect, in the nearby area. He was identified as a 27-year-old, male and placed under arrest. Once the investigation was complete, he was charged with robbery and released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Update – Suspicious Activity at Rotary Park

The Brockville Police Service has received information and has confirmed with the Brockville General Hospital that the individuals described in the previous news release were contracted by the Brockville General Hospital. The individuals were determined to be photographers contracted by the Brockville General Hospital and the City of Brockville and were taking photographs for recruitment purposes.
