Train Collision with Pedestrian

On June 1, 2024, shortly after 11:00am, police received information regarding a collision involving a train and a pedestrian, just West of Perth St. in Brockville. Police confirmed this and unfortunately, this incident resulted in a fatality. We are currently in the initial stages of the investigation and no further information can be released at this time. Once able, we will provide further details.

Safety Notice 

The Brockville Police Service is aware of recent reports of suspicious activity on the north end of the Brock Trail as well as the Mac Johnson Conservation Area.

The Brockville Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant when traveling alone in any remote areas. If possible, ensure you have access to a cell phone, tell someone where you intend to go, your expected time of return, and consider traveling with others.

Lastly, if you have had a recent encounter with a suspicious person that has not been reported to Police, please contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 extension 0 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Police have no further information to disclose at this time and will release important information as it comes available.

News Release – May 24 – 27, 2024

Marine Assistance

On May 26, 2024, at about 8:30pm, police received a request for assistance regarding a 30-foot vessel that struck a shoal near Butternut Bay. Initially, one of the motors stopped working and it was reported shortly after that the second motor broke down East of Brockville. The Brockville Police Service responded and located the vessel adrift, and brought everyone safely back to shore. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.

 

Impaired Driver Failed to Provide Breath Sample

On May 24, 2024, at about 11:45pm, police received a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision on King St. W. near St. Andrews St. Officers arrived and discovered that one of the drivers of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment by alcohol. The 45-year-old, female driver was arrested for impaired driving. She was taken to the Brockville Police Service for the purposes of Breath sample testing, which she refused to comply with. As a result, her vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and she was charged with impaired driving and refusal to comply with demand. The charge of refusal to comply carries the same penalties as the charge of impaired driving. She was released on conditions with a future court date.  

 

Charges Laid After Bail Conditions Breached

On May 27, 2024, at about 6:00pm, police received a report of a 29-year-old, female in contravention of her release order bail conditions. Investigation revealed that the 29-year-old, subject was in the area of a victim from a previous incident, possibly following her. It was known that the 29-year-old, subject was on bail with conditions specifically not to attend Brockville and on house arrest; to remain in her residence at all times. Officers observed the subject in the area of Church St., where the investigation initiated. The subject fled from the area in a green SUV. Later, officers located the same green SUV in a ditch along Lyn Rd. Nearby, the 29-year-old, female was located and arrested. It was found that she was using a licence plate not authorized for the vehicle and operating without a driver’s licence. She was charged with those traffic offences. She was then held for a bail hearing for the offences of dangerous operation, flight from police, obstruct peace officer, two counts of fail to comply with release order.

 

News Release – May 15 – 17, 2024

Male Arrested for Drug Offences

On May 16, 2024, at about 11:15am, officers were investigating a complaint regarding a breach of bail conditions in the area of Crocker Cres. Officers located the vehicle in the area of the Hampton Inn, and noted that there were two males in the vehicle. Officers were investigating a 23-year-old, male and another 22-year-old, male. During the course of being investigated; the males were found to be in possession of open alcohol in the vehicle. The 22-year-old, male locked the doors to the vehicle in an attempt to prevent the officers from further searching. Eventually, officers gained entry to the vehicle and a quantity of cocaine was located which was separated into small packages along with a scale. Both males were arrested. Further investigation revealed that the 23-year-old, male had recently sold cocaine. As a result, the vehicle was towed and both males were charged. The 23-year-old, male was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, fail to comply with probation, fail to comply with release order and held for a bail hearing. The 22-year-old, male was charged with possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking and released with a future court date.    

 

Arrest Made in Intimate Partner Violence Investigation

On May 15, 2024, at about 3:15pm, police received a complaint from a female victim of domestic assault. Investigation revealed that a 28-year-old, male had assaulted his girlfriend on May 13, 2024. It was learned that the male subject engaged in a dispute with his girlfriend that resulted in him open had striking her at least five times. The dispute continued, now over a pack of cigarettes, where the male shoved the female to the ground and choked her until she was losing consciousness. As this struggle continued the female struck the male in an attempt to break free, and in turn, the male grabbed a knife and threatened to stab her to death. At a later time when safe, she reported the incident to police. The female received non-life-threatening injuries. It should be mentioned that this male subject has been placed on three different probation orders with conditions for separate convictions on offences.

On May 16, 2024, at about 8:00pm, police located the male in the area of Ormond St. He was arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with probation, assault, assault with a weapon and overcome resistance by attempting to choke. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

News Release – May 13 – 15, 2024

Fire in Contained in Apartment Building

On May 13, 2024, at about 9:00pm, police received information of an active fire within the apartment building at 15 Gilmour St. The Brockville Fire Department attended quickly and with their fast response, the fire was luckily contained to one unit. One resident was removed from the unit and they received non-life-threatening injuries. 24 units in the building were evacuated for safety concerns while the building was inspected. After the thorough inspection the building was deemed safe and residents were able to return. Only the single occupant from the unit where the fire originated was displaced. This incident is not deemed suspicious.

 

Male Arrested in Warrant Execution

On May 15, 2024, 3:30pm, police were investigating an unrelated incident on Church St., when they located a 39-year-old, male who had a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was in relation to a charge of failing to comply with probation, stemming from an incident in early February, 2024. He was arrested and released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Theft from Store Leads to an Arrest

On May 14, 2024, at about 9:45pm, police received information that a male subject was observed shoplifting at the Superstore on Parkedale Ave. The subject was observed in the store, concealing items in a large duffle bag. He then attended to the checkout area and paid for one, single item, then left the store. Officers arrived and located the subject as he was leaving. He was identified to be a 32-year-old, male and was arrested. There was approximately $120.00, worth of merchandise found in the bag that he used to conceal the items. During the search, officers also located and seized a quantity of fentanyl. The male was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and released with conditions and a future court date.   

 

News Release – May 10 – 12, 2024

Arrest Warrants Executed

During the weekend from May 10, 2024, to May 12, 2024, the Brockville Police Service arrested six individuals on various outstanding arrest warrants. The following are some of those details.

  • May 10th, at about 10:00am, a 47-year-old, male was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to attend court, issued out of Kingston. He was released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
  • May 10th, at about 2:45pm, a 31-year-old, female was arrested on a warrant for failing to comply with probation. She was released with a future court date.
  • May 10th, at about 5:30pm, a 50-year-old, male was arrested on a warrant for failing to comply with bail conditions. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
  • May 11th, at about 9:30am, a 39-year-old, male was located and arrested on the strength of two warrants. One for failing to attend court and the other for fail to comply with probation. He was released with a future court date.
  • May 11th, at about 4:30pm, a 53-year-old, male was arrested on a warrant for fail to comply with his conditional sentence order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
  • May 13th, at about 12:30am, a 26-year-old, male was arrested on a warrant for fail to comply with fingerprinting and failing to attend court. There was a second warrant for failing to comply with probation. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Male Arrested for Impaired Driving

On May 12, 2024, at about 2:45pm, police received reports of a possible impaired driver in the area of Ormond St. and Charlotte Pl. Investigation led officers to the location of the vehicle and driver. Officers spoke to the 32-year-old, male identified to be the driver of the vehicle. He was observed to be intoxicated by alcohol. He was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing. That said testing confirmed he was intoxicated and driving over the legal limit. The subject’s vehicle was impounded, driver’s licence suspended and he was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

News Release – Week of May 10

This past week the Brockville Police Service has responded to 395 calls for service. As a result of these calls, police laid 58 Criminal Code charges, 13 Traffic Related charges and four other Provincial Offence charges consisting of Liquor and Trespass offences. Below are a few of the incidents to note from the week.

 

Wanted Male Arrested

On May 9, 2024, at about 6:30pm, police learned of a 50-year-old, male who was at a residence on King St. W. and wanted for multiple offences. The arrest warrant was stemming from incidents that took place in July 2023. The subject had been evading police and was wanted for assault, overcoming resistance (choking) and robbery. Brockville Police Officers, along with OPP led Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team, East Region, received a Feeney warrant authorizing entry into the residence. Police attended and located the male who attempted to flee. However, officers were able to gain control of the male and took him into custody. He was held for a bail hearing for the above offences.

 

Driving While Impaired by Drugs

On May 8, 2024 at about 2:00pm, police were received information of a possible impaired driver, parked in a pickup truck, in the area of Bartholomew St. Officers attended and spoke to the 30-year-old, male driver. The driver was believed to be impaired by drugs and placed under arrest. A search revealed that he was also in possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and another person’s identity documents. The subject was taken for further assessments by a Drug Recognition Expert. The result was that the vehicle was seized, driver’s licence suspended and the subject was charged with operation while impaired by drugs, possession of identity documents and two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking drugs. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Break and Enter in Progress Leads to Arrest

On May 3, 2024, at about 12:00pm, police received information regarding a 38-year-old, male attempting to open windows at a residence on Wall St. Officers attended and located a male matching the description. As they spoke to him he was placed under detention at which time he fled from police. Officers gave chase and eventually located him in the nearby area. He was placed under arrest for this incident as well as an outstanding warrant for break and enter to a store on King St. W. last month. Once he was arrested he was searched and brass knuckles were found in his possession. He was held for bail for the offences of break and enter, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, escape lawful custody and three counts of fail to comply with probation.

 

 

News Release – April 30 – May 1, 2024

Search Warrants Executed with Various Drugs Seized

 

On May 1, 2024, the Brockville Police Service Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Unit and Emergency Response Team executed two Section 11 Controlled Drug and Substance Act warrants, at a multi-unit complex on Central Ave. The operational plan was executed in conjunction with the assistance of the OPP BEU East, OPP led Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team East Region and OPP K9 Unit.

As a result, quantities of methamphetamine, MDMA and cocaine were seized in the operation. The total approximate value of the drugs seized was $12,000.00. In conjunction with the drugs, police also seized $1500.00 in Canadian Currency and a Glock 19 replica handgun with a laser sight.

In total, five people were arrested. Below is a list of individuals along with their charges:

  • 33-year-old, female – possession for purpose meth.
  • 27-year-old, male – possession purpose meth & possess prohibited weapon (brass knuckles w/ knife built in).
  • 38-year-old, male – possession for purpose meth, possession weapon dangerous (Glock 19 replica, pistol).
  • 42-year-old, male – possession for purpose meth, possession for purpose cocaine, possession for purpose MDMA & warrant for domestic assault.
  • 32-year-old, female – possession for purpose meth, possession for purpose cocaine, fail to comply with undertaking conditions.

The 42-year-old, male and 32-year-old, female were held in custody for a bail hearing. The others arrested in the operation were released with future court dates.

 

 

 

Disturbance Leads to Arrest Warrant Execution

On April 30, 2024, at about 12:45am, police received a report of a disturbance on Chancery Lane. Information was that it sounded like three people were involved and the sounds of items breaking could be heard. Officers arrived and everything was quiet. Police did eventually locate a 43-year-old, male in the area. It was determined that there was a warrant for the male’s arrest for intimate partner related assault, assault with a weapon and fail to comply with probation. These charges were stemming from an investigation in October, 2023. He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

 

News Release – April 27 – 28, 2024

Since Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28, 2024, The Brockville Police Service received 129 calls for service. This included 7 traffic related charges, 19 Criminal Code charges and 3 Mental Health apprehensions. The following are a few highlights from the weekend.

 

Break and Enter Suspect Captured

On April 28, 2024, at about 4:00am, police received a report of a security alarm at the Hydro One facility on Front Ave. Officers responded to the area and investigation revealed that there was a perimeter breach and a suspect had fled North from the area. Officers searched the area and actually observed a suspect attempting to hide with tools and a face mask. The suspect then fled and officers gave chase through the wooded area. They eventually caught up to the suspect who attempted to hide in the vicinity of Giant Tiger on Park St. They were arrested and identified to be a 30-year-old, male. The subject did resist the arrest, however officers quickly gained control. Officers did recover two chain saws, two batteries and a Sawzall, totaling an approximate value of $1,800.00. The subject was charged with break and enter, disguise with intent, possession of break in tools and resist arrest. He was eventually released with conditions and a future court date.    

 

Male Arrested After Threatening a Victim and Violating Conditions

On April 25, 2024, at about 1:30pm, police received information of an incident stemming from a neighbour dispute, in the area of Duke St. and Flanders Rd. Information was that two neighbours were in a disagreement that resulted in threatening comments to burn one’s residence down, were made. This was accompanied with multiple other insults. As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old, male was charged with uttering threats and released with conditions to abstain from communicating with the victim.

On April 26, 2024, at about 12:30pm, police learned that the 54-year-old, male subject, had contacted the victim’s place of work three times making false complaints. This all after being charged and placed on conditions. In the early hours this morning on April 29, 2024, the 54-year-old, male was located and arrested for criminal harassment. He was charged with harassment and held for a bail hearing.

 

Bail Violations

On April 28, 2024, at about 12:45pm, police were notified about a breach of undertaking, bail conditions. The accused from a previous investigation where charges of assault, threats and mischief were laid, was released on an undertaking with conditions to abstain from communicating with the victim. Investigation revealed that the accused 43-year-old, male had made attempts and actually contacted the victim. The male subject was located and arrested for failing to comply with undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.

News Release – April 24 – 25, 2024

In the last week, the Brockville Police Service has responded to 302 calls for service. In those incidents laid 54 Criminal Code charges, 17 Highway Traffic charges and 7 Liquor Licence and Control Act charges. The following are a few incidents police responded to in the past couple days.

 

 Male Arrested Regarding Intimate Partner Violence

On April 24, 2024, at about 9:00am, police received information of an assault that had taken place earlier that morning between a couple that had taken place in the Cartier Court area. Investigation revealed that a female was engaged in a disagreement with her 43-year-old, boyfriend, which resulted in him punching her in the mouth. Later, police located the male and placed him under arrest. He was charged with assault and released on conditions with a future court date. The female received non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Alarm Leads to Break and Enter Arrest

On April 24, 2020, at about 6:30pm, police received notification from an alarm monitoring company that they believed someone had gained entry to Harold’s Demolition on Georgina St. Police arrived and found that someone had gained entry to the building. Police searched the premises and located a 24-year-old, male located inside the building. It was also found that the male was on probation with conditions. He was arrested and charged with break and enter and fail to comply with probation. He was released on new conditions and a future court date.

 

Male Arrested for Serious Offences Involving Intimate Partner Violence

On April 25, 2024, at about 1:30am, police received a 911 call from a female in the area of Laurier Field, stating she had been assaulted by her 33-year-old, boyfriend. It was also said that he was actively smashing out the windows of a pickup truck with a crowbar. Officers arrived and located the two individuals involved. The male was located sitting by a pickup truck with a smashed window. Investigation revealed that the couple were engaged in a dispute that escalated to the point that the male poured a beverage on the female, punched her in the face, threatened her, struck her with a crowbar and also struck her with a knife causing a cut. After the female made it to safety, he continued in his rage by smashing the pickup truck windows and interior dash to the point that it needed to be towed. The male was placed under arrest and resisted the arrest; however, police were able to quickly gain control and no one else was hurt. Once arrested officers located a quantity of cocaine, crystal meth, fentanyl, scales, bags and three cell phones in his possession. He was held in custody for a bail hearing for the following offences; Assault, four counts of Assault with weapon, mischief over $5,000.00, three counts of Possession for the purpose of trafficking, uttering threats and Resist arrest. The female received non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Bail Violations

On April 25, 2024, at about 10:00pm, police were on general patrol when they observed a 30-year-old, male in the area of John St. The male was operating a motor-assisted bicycle and attempted to avoid the officer by cutting in behind a residence on the John St. The officer did locate the male and found that he was on a release order with bail conditions consisting of a curfew. The subject was to remain in his residence between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am, which is not near the address where he was located. He was placed under arrest and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offence of fail to comply with release order.
