Breach of Recognizance
On the 29th of July, 2017 at approximately 3:37 a.m. the Brockville Police received a call from a resident in a south end apartment of an unwanted Brockville man. The man was intoxicated and was at large on a recognizance of bail with a curfew condition. As a result the man was arrested for breaching the conditions of his release and remanded into custody to appear on court on the 31st of July, 2017.
Ottawa Police arrest man for Brockville warrant
A 49 year old Ottawa man was arrested early yesterday morning by the Ottawa Police for an outstanding warrant held by the Brockville Police Service in relation to a domestic disturbance from earlier this month.
On the 17th of July 2017 officers responded to a Perth Street residence to check on the wellbeing of a woman living at the home. Once at the address police learned from her about a series of domestic incidents involving herself and former boyfriend over a period of time which resulted in the Brockville Police seeking an arrest warrant for the man.
As a result of the arrest Brockville officers attended to Ottawa and took the man into custody and returned him to court for a bail hearing.
Bail Hearing for Domestic Charges
A 24 year old Brockville man will be in court this morning facing a series of domestic related charges as a result of several dealings with police over the past month.
At approximately 8 p.m. last evening the Brockville Police received a call indicating the 28 year old female victim was at her residence with the door locked. There was banging on the door and eventually the door handle was broken off the door and the suspect fled. The caller suspected it was the 24 year old man that attended and called police to alert them out of concern for the woman’s safety. While police were checking the area the man returned to the apartment and made his way inside. Officers arriving overheard the yelling inside the apartment and entered to ensure the safety of the woman. Once inside they found the 24 year old man and placed him under arrest for domestic assault, and conveyed him to police headquarters.
While investigating the domestic disturbance last evening, officers also learned the man was wanted for an assault on July 7th involving the same victim and was also on probation for similar offences in the past. As a result he was taken into custody for assault, breaching his probation and mischief and held in custody for a bail hearing.
Impaired by Drug
A 20 year old Brockville man is facing charges of impaired driving and driving while disqualified as a result of a traffic stop yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. Cst Sam Evers of the Brockville Police observed the 2005 Dodge Dakota on William Street by the male whom he recognized to be a disqualified driver. He stopped the vehicle and confirmed the disqualification and while speaking with him noticed signs of impairment by drugs. As a result he was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for tests.
The man was turned over to drug recognition expert police officer for tests to be performed and as a result of the tests it was determined the male was impaired by drugs.
He was later released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date.
Disturbance on Perth Street
Brockville Police were called to a disturbance at a Buell Street residence near the intersection of Pearl Street after a 25 year old Brockville man arrived at the residence yelling outside and swinging a baseball bat.
On arrival the male had fled the area but was located a short distance away from the residence. Officers learned that the young man was in a dispute with the residents of the house and began swinging the bat and breaking out some of the windows at the residence.
As a result the man was arrested for weapons offences, breaching his probation, mischief and causing a disturbance. He was conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where he was later released with several conditions and given a future court date.
Damage to Piano at Hardy Park
The Brockville Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for damage done to the public piano in the band shell at Hardy Park.
Early yesterday afternoon a volunteer who helped spearhead a local campaign to bring the piano to Hardy Park attended to the Brockville Police Service to report a number of keys and a foot pedal on the piano had been broken and the piano was no longer usable.
The community piano in the park was a result of a local social media campaign. Three people volunteered to donate a piano, an Art Class from Thousand Islands Secondary School painted it using paint donated by a Brockville Hardware store. A local moving company donated staff, a vehicle and to store the piano during the off season and the Downtown Business Improvement Association (DBIA) paid to have the piano tuned. Volunteers from the group checked and cleaned the piano regularly until the discovery of the damage on Wednesday.

Members of the Brockville Police Service would like to extend our congratulations to some of our members today.
Our newest recruit Constable Lucas McArthur is graduating with his recruit class from the Ontario Police College in a ceremony today at the College. Lucas will start his training on shift at the Brockville Police Service next week and we look forward to having him join our team and working with him for years to come. Congratulations to Lucas and to his family on this special day.
As well, ladies of the Brockville Police Service proved once again they are far better hockey players than their male co-workers. Last evening the ladies capped off an undefeated season in the Brockville Women’s Ball Hockey League winning the league championship. Congratulations to all on a great season.
Lottery Scam
A Brockville senior is a victim in the latest lottery scam to target the area.
The victim attended the Brockville Police station yesterday afternoon to report he had been asked on a couple of occasions to send money to a bank account in British Columbia to claim his lottery winnings. He became suspicious after the latest request for transfer of funds and sought assistance from police. No prize was ever received and the victim has lost the money he has already transferred.
Scammers frequently come up with new and inventive ways to prey on potential victims. They will often use the names of real companies or lotteries to convince potential victims the lottery is legitimate. However, known lottery and sweepstakes companies would never request money upfront to claim lottery winnings. You never have to “pay to play”.
Breach of Bail Conditions
A 49 year old Brockville man was arrested early yesterday afternoon at Brockville court when he attempted to speak with his victim while leaving the court room.
The man was originally arrested last summer in a joint Leeds OPP and Brockville Police Service investigation which is currently before the courts. As part of his release conditions, he was to have no communication with the victim and a number of witnesses. On Tuesday, while in court at his trial for these offences he attempted to speak with the victim as they left the court room.
As a result, the man will face an additional charge of breaching his release conditions.
Thefts from vehicles continue
Brockville Police took 5 reports of theft from parked vehicles during the overnight period Sunday night to Monday morning. Most of the reported thefts from the unlocked vehicles were in the Perth Street area and side streets between the railway tracks and Central Ave.
Among the articles taken from the vehicles included loose change and money, sunglasses, clothing, GPS systems and keys.

Police remind residents to lock your vehicles when leaving them unattended and not to leave valuables where passerby’s can see them. If parking your vehicle overnight, park your vehicle in a well-lit and high traffic area to act as a deterrent to would be thieves.
Flooding on City Streets
As a result of the rainfall yesterday a couple of city streets had to be temporarily closed during yesterday’s heavy rain.
California Ave at both the south end between Parkedale Avenue and Waltham Square, and in the north end between Laurier Boulevard and Centennial Road had been closed for brief time periods yesterday because of flooding.
Centennial Road between Stewart and Windsor was the scene of another road closure yesterday due to some minor flooding.
As of this morning all roadways were again open and traffic was moving normally through those areas.
Arrest Warrant
A 25 year old Brockville area woman was arrested late yesterday afternoon for outstanding warrants when an officer spotted her on Pearl Street.
Constable Serge Landry was driving on Pearl Street when he saw the woman whom he recognized walking on the sidewalk. He confirmed the warrant was still outstanding in relation to failing to appear at court in relation to a March 2017 theft.
She was conveyed to headquarters where she was processed and released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
Looking for witnesses to Domestic Disturbance
Brockville Police are seeking witnesses in relation to a domestic disturbance which took place last eening on Windsor Drive near Thousand Islands Secondary School at approximately 11:30 p.m.
A caller to the Brockville Police communications centre reported they saw a male and female fighting in the area during this time. Caller described the altercation as a shoving match between the two. The male is described as possibly in his 20’s wearing only dark coloured shorts with no shoes or shirt on. No description is available for the female at this time.

Motor Vehicle Collision
Brockville Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a collision with a street sign Saturday night July 22, 2017. Cst Jeggo while on patrol at the intersection of Central Ave and Stewart Blvd located the damage to the street sign around 3am.

Warrants
On the 22nd of July 2017 the Brockville Police arrested a 28 year old male and a 49 year old male in the south end of town. Both individuals had outstanding warrants for their arrest. The 28 year old was released with a new court date, and the 49 year old was held in custody for the weekend.
RIDE Checks
Officers from the Brockville Police Service conducted RIDE Checks at various locations throughout the city last evening between 7pm and 11pm. One hundred and twenty vehicles were stopped during this time resulting in two roadside tests being administered. Of the roadside tests, one driver registered warning which resulted in a three day suspension from driving.
In addition to the roadside tests, five motorists were warned with various Highway Traffic Act infractions including a burned out headlight, not wearing a seatbelt and not having a front license plate. Additionally two drivers were warned for Liquor License Act infractions for possessing alcohol under the age of 19.
Kijiji Fraud
A Convay Crescent resident attended to the Brockville Police headquarters late yesterday afternoon to report that he has had 2 people show up at his residence in response to a Kijiji ad saying his house was for rent. He has lived in the residence for some time and he did not place the ad nor is his residence for rent.
At present he is not aware of anyone being victimized by this scam but wanted the incident reported to police in the event there are potential victims. The incident has been reported to Kijiji as a fraudulent ad who will take the ad down.
Arrest in Shoplifting Investigation
A 47 year old Brockville man wanted in connection with an ongoing shoplifting investigation was spotted yesterday by officers as he entered Wal-Mart department store.
Constable Damian Willis was on patrol passing through the Wal-Mart parking lot at approximately 9:40 p.m. last evening when he spotted the man entering Wal-Mart. He confirmed the man was wanted by police in relation to a complaint received July 15th in relation to several shoplifting incidents in the downtown area.
As a result, the man was arrested for the downtown thefts and brought to Brockville Police headquarters where he was released on a Promise to Appear and given a future court date for the theft charges.
Impaired Driving Arrest
Early this morning, Brockville Police stopped a 34 year old Barrie man in his delivery van and found him to be impaired by alcohol.
Officers first spotted the vehicle on William Street and travelling northbound on Stewart Boulevard and turning onto the westbound ramp of the 401 where it was stopped because of his erratic driving. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noticed an odour of alcohol on his breath and other signs of impairment. As a result, the man was arrested for impaired driving and taken into custody for breath tests to be administered, where he complied and had readings well over the legal limit permitted to drive.
The man issued a Promise to Appear with a future court date for charges of impaired driving, and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Fraud Scams active again in the Brockville area
A couple of familiar scams are making reappearances in the Brockville area in July.
In another version of the Tax Scam, the potential victims receive a call from a scammer pretending to be a police officer threatening to come and arrest the victim for overdue taxes. If the victim is not home at the time, a message will be left to call a number back immediately or face incarceration.
Residents are urged to just hang up on the caller and not to provide any personal information. Should you have any questions about your Canada Revenue Agency Account contact them directly at 1-800-959-8281 or online at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/myaccount/.
Brockville Police have also received several complaints of the Rental Scam appearing in the area.
In the latest Brockville area version, a fraudulent classified ad has been taken out on Kijiji for a rental property within the City of Brockville. Potential renters are asked to fill out an application including many personal details such as banking details, contact information, and occupation. The scammer will also ask for a security deposit to secure the application for the rental property.
Before the potential victim learns the advertised property is not for rent, it is too late.
Potential renters are urged when searching to physically go to the address and schedule a showing time to confirm its availability prior to transferring any money or providing any personal information. Also to complete an internet search on the property to ensure it is not a duplicate post and never send funds to strangers. Remember if it seems too good to be true it probably is.
