June 23 – 24, 2016 Incidents

Mental Health

On June 23rd at 2:04 pm. Brockville Police responded to a center area apartment complex to check out some strange behaviour.

A local 48 year old male was sitting at a picnic table on the grounds of the building.  Trouble was, he didn’t have any clothes on.  While Officers spoke to him, it became obvious he was in need of attention in regards to his mental health.

He was conveyed to local hospital for appropriate care.

 

Failing to Attend Court / Warrant

On June 6th, a local 44 year old man failed to attend for a required court date.

At that time a warrant was issued for his arrest.  On June 23rd, Officers on patrol during dayshift observed the same male walking southbound on Stewart Blvd.  He was arrested and charged with failing to attend court.

A new court date was issued when the subject was released from custody.

 

Fraud

On June 23rd at 8:47 pm, Brockville Police took a complaint of a fraud in relation to cab fare.

A local couple, a 41 year old female and a 40 year old male, took the cab from Kingston to Brockville and did not have the funds to pay for the service provided.  Both parties were arrested and charged with fare fraud and given a future court date.

 

Trespass

On June 24th at 12:24 am., Brockville Police attended an abandoned business on King Street West.

Officers had observed a younger male and a female on the roof.  The female took off on foot but the 20 year old is known to Police.  The other party was a 15 year old youth who was escorted home to his parents.

Officers are still looking into the incident and to make contact with the woman involved.  Officers did receive information of a third male who was running around in the area.

 

 

June 22, 2016 Incident

Robbery Update

On January 10th of this year, Brockville Police began investigating a robbery at #325 Stewart Blvd. – Petro Canada gas station.  The lone male was armed with a knife during the incident.  The investigation has now led to the arrest of a local 29 year old man.  DNA evidence collected at the time of the event tied the man to the robbery.  He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

 

Domestic Dispute / Charges

On June 22nd at 9:10 am, Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a south end residence.

A local 24 year old woman attended the residence of her boyfriend after the couple had seperated in the last couple days.  Discovering another female in the bedroom, she assaulted the visiting female, punching her in the face. Injuries were of a minor nature.  The accused then left the apartment but returned right away and damaged a bathroom door trying to confront the other woman again and making threats towards her.

Officers arrested the young woman for assault, mischief and uttering threats.  She was released later with a future court date and conditions to follow.

June 21, 2016 Incidents

Public Intoxication

On June 21st at 10:12 am, Brockville Police attended the parking lot of a south end apartment complex to check on a man’s well being.

The local 28 year old was found bleeding from the nose and very intoxicated.  Unknown how he sustained his minor injury but Officers were concerned about his ability to look after himself.  He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and taken into custody until sobering up.

Later the same day, he was released with a fine.

 

Unlawfully At Large

On June 21st at 1:57 pm, Brockville Police were contacted by the Brockville Jail who reported a prisoner did not show up for his weekend sentence.

A local 26 year old man failed to show up last Friday to serve his weekend in custody.  Jail staff delayed reporting the incident to verify a possible viable reason for his absence.  A warrant will now be in effect for the man’s arrest.

 

Domestic Incident / Charges

On June 21st at 3:35 pm, Brockville Police began an investigation into a domestic assault allegation.

A local 18 year old female reported to family members that she was leaving her boyfriend and had been assaulted on several occassions during the relationship.  She had been struck in the face several times over the last few months, was not allowed to leave their apartment on different occassions and was once held down on a bed and choked till she could not breath.  The accused is a local 19 year old man. He was arrested and charged by Officers for the offences of assault, forcible confinement and choking.  He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Theft 

On June 21st at 7:01 pm, Brockville Police attended a department store in the center of the city for a shoplifting complaint.

A local 40 year old man stole items from the store with a low dollar value.  Instead of criminal charges, he was issued a fine under the Trespass to Property Act and will no longer be allowed on the premises.

 

Mental Health Incident

On June 21st at 9:48 pm, Brockville Police attended a family dispute at a south end residence.

After things had calmed down and Officers were attempting to leave, one of the residents approached officers and told Police he wanted to kill himself.  The local 48 year old was in possession of pills and Officers had to wrestle with him to get them out of his hands.

He was taken to hospital for appropriate attention.

 

Assault

On June 20th at 10:03 am, Brockville Police attended a disturbance at a south end convience store.

A local 18 year old female approached her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend outside the store and confronted him about property of her’s still in his possession.  She then proceeded to punch the female in the face and a fight started.  While leaving the area, she stole her sunglasses.

Police have yet to locate the woman but she faces charges of assault and theft.  The injuries to the victim were minor in nature.

 

June 17 – 19, 2016 Incidents

Community Service / Mental Health

On June 17th at 3:03 pm, Brockville Police attended Social Services of Leeds and Grenville on Central Avenue. A local 39 year old female was giving staff a hard time and was in obvious crisis.

Police apprehended the female and conveyed her to hospital for appropriate care. She was left in the company of mental health workers.

 

Fraud / Scam

On June 17th at 3:13 pm, Brockville Police began looking into a fraud in which a local 62 year old female was victimized.

She received a phone call indicating her son had been in an accident and the Police needed money to release him. The instructions were to attend EB Games and obtain $3,600.00 in gift cards, reveal the serial number on the back of the cards and forward this information through Western Union.

Again, there is no agency that would ever make this request of someone for legitimate reasons. We cannot stress enough to the Community to be cognizant of these scams. There are still folks falling victim on a weekly basis.

 

Inspections

On June 17th in the evening hours, Brockville Police along with The Health Unit, Brockville Fire and Liquor Inspectors made a tour of local drinking establishments. These checks are a joint operation, conducted to ensure compliance with different codes and laws. There were no specific issues identified during the operation on Friday evening.

 

Public Intoxication

On June 18th at 1:24 am, Brockville Police dealt with a man on King Street West who was intoxicated and in need of some intervention.

The local 25 year old was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was released later in the day when sober and issued a fine.

 

Break / Enter / Possible Theft

On June 18th at 3:03 am, Brockville Police attended the Hydro One lot on Front Avenue in regards to a break and enter.

Security had observed an unknown male in the yard of the facility carrying a chainsaw. Police surrounded the area but located no one. A hole was discovered which had been cut in the chain link fence around the property.

The investigation continues and Police are awaiting an inventory check from employees there.

 

Shoplifting Stroller

On June 18th at 5:32 pm, Brockville Police attended a north end department store in regards to a woman shoplifting.

The local 39 year old was caught stuffing items in the stroller she was pushing which contained a child. The items were recovered, the offender was released at the scene and given paperwork for a future court date.

 

Weapon Charge

On June 18th at 7:36 pm, Brockville Police attended a south end residence after a knife was produced during an altercation.

A local man decided to scare another family member by setting off the car alarm while she walked past its parking spot. Another young male who was walking by felt the action was directed at him and confronted the man with the key fob. The local 17 year old produced a pocket knife which was open and in his hand as the two exchanged words.

He left the area and was located by Police a short distance away. He threw the knife in a bushy area when seeing Officers. After admitting to his actions, he assisted Officers trying to find the knife but to no avail. Police took the young man home and had a conversation with he and his father.

All parties agreed, the best form of action was to have the youth take part in a diversion program where in exchange for charges, he would participate in a program to help him deal with the choices he made. Charges are still an option until the program is completed.

 

Domestic Assault / Bail Violation

On June 19th at 12:44 am, Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a north end apartment complex.

A local 19 year old man indicated he had been slapped and punched by his 20 year old girlfriend. Officers arrested the woman for assault and also for breaching conditions of a prior release document. Turns out, she had assaulted another boyfriend in the recent past and was awaiting a court date to deal with those charges. Now, after two incidents of domestic assault and the breaches, she was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Mental Health Issues

On June 19th at 9:10 pm, Brockville Police attended a north end residence to check on a local, 66 year old man.

Information had been received the subject had not been taking prescribed medication. Due to mental health concerns, Officers conveyed the man to hospital for appropriate attention.

 

Mental Health / Suicide Attempt

On June 19th at 9:35 pm, Brockville Police attended a south end apartment complex after reports of a female wanting to jump off the roof.

A local 22 year old had an argument with her boyfriend and became distraught. She attended the rooftop of the building and was threatening to jump. Officers were unable to talk her down but managed to position themselves in a manner that they were able to grab her. Police also noted fresh self-inflicted cuts to her forearms. She was conveyed to hospital for appropriate care.

Bees

Bees Swarm on Parkedale

At approximately 5pm on the 18th of June 2016, police began receiving phone calls about bees swarming in the area of Parkedale and Stewart. The bees had taken up residence in a highway sign in the median of west bound Parkedale Ave. at Stewart. A local bee keeper, Peter, was contacted by a passing motorist who offered BPS his assistance. Police blocked traffic while Peter captured the queen. With the queen captured the remainder would disperse.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Public Assistance Request

On the 16th of June, 2016 at approximately 4:30 in the afternoon in the City of Brockville a motor cyclist had entered onto Stewart Blvd from the Brockville Shopping Center parking lot to proceed north bound. She was then sideswiped by a vehicle described as either a silver or grey SUV or van which knocked her down causing her injury and sending her motorcycle spinning across the roadway. The vehicle fled the scene north bound on Stewart Blvd and was last scene crossing the 401 overpass.

One key feature of the suspect vehicle was a palm size sticker of a round flower placed top right of the licence number plate.  The suspect vehicle may have some sort of blue or white paint transfer to the right side of it or perhaps scratches of some sort.

The motorcyclist was assisted by other motorists who stopped to lend aid.

June 16, 2016 Incidents

Bail Violation

On June 16th at 9:33 am, Brockville Police took a complaint of an unwanted person at a south end residence.

A local 60 year old woman,wanted Police to remove her boyfriend from the home.  However, he had been staying there for a while and she was on court conditions that included not to have any contact with the man.  She was arrested and charged with breaching her undertaking and held in custody.

An appearance in bail court took place.

 

Fare Fraud

On June 16th at 7:45 pm, Brockville Police took a complaint involving a taxi fraud.

A 39 year old woman, with no fixed address, took a cab from Kingston to Brockville.  Once in the city she advised she had no money for the fare.  The accused has a history of walking away from cab rides and not paying the bill.  She was charged with the fraud offence and released with a future court date.

 

June 15, 2016

Warrant

On June 15th at 9:20 am, Brockville Police received information that the Leeds OPP were dealing with a male party who was wanted by our Service.

The local 22 year old had been stopped for a traffic violation on Highway #2. Breaches of his probation order resulted in the warrant being issued. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Unwanted Person

On June 15th at 11:23 am, Brockville Police attended a downtown bank for an unwanted male subject.

The local 27 year old threatened bank staff and then began pacing back and forth outside the institution. Officers arrested the man for uttering threats.

Due to mental health concerns, he was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Bail Violation

On June 15th at 3:53 pm, Brockville Police Officers on general patrol observed a local 37 year old female on a south end street.

The problem is, she was walking with a male that her release conditions state she is not to communicate with. She was contacted by Police at her residence but did not want to speak to Officers to deal with the situation. When located she will be facing several breaches of her release conditions.

 

Foot Pursuit

On June 15th at 8:27 pm, Brockville Police attended the west end of King Street to deal with a man acting in a strange manner. He was asking passing females to marry him and generally being a nuisance.

When Officers arrived, they recognized the man as being wanted for a mischief a couple nights previous. The local 35 year old had confronted residents at a south end home and broke a window before leaving the area. The subject took off on foot and a foot pursuit ensued. He was located trying to hide in some tall grass a short time later.

Once tucked away in cells, the accused did not like the noise being created by the man occupying the next cell. After his demands for movement to another area were not met, he proceeded to damage a light fixture. Under arrest now for two counts of mischief, the accused will appear in bail court.

 

Family Dispute

On June 15th at 10:30 pm, Brockville Police attended a family dispute at a south end residence.

A local 48 year old man was found heavily intoxicated and had been picking fights with his girlfriend’s son. He was also exiting the residence at different times and yelling on the street.

Officers arrested the subject to prevent a further breach of the peace. He was released this morning when sober with no charges.

 

Update – Dispute at St. Lawrence Park

The 56 year old man responsible for the mischief at St. Lawrence Park was arrested and released. He admitted the fight was pretty dumb in its origin. Officers tried to make him feel better by agreeing with his position that the earth was round. He now awaits a future court date.

 

 

June 14, 2016 Incidents

Bail Violation

On June 14th at 5:48 am, Brockville Police arrested a local, 30 year old man after he failed to sign in at the station.

The male was charged in April with numerous offences and one of his release conditions with the court was to report to the Brockville Police every Monday. The subject missed his June 13th sign in, called Police for advice and turned himself in the next morning.

He was arrested and charged with breaching his recognizance and later released with a future court date. Signing in on Mondays will remain an obligation.

 

Break and Enter

On June 14th at 1:36 pm, Brockville Police attended a south end residence for a break and enter.

The unoccupied property suffered damage to the front door and some flooding after the water meter was broken. City employees attended to turn the water off. Police are working on identifying the responsible subject(s) and have several leads to check out.
