December 26 – 27, 2019 News Release

Impaired:

On the 26th of December at 10:50 p.m. officers on routine patrol observed a black Honda Civic being operated on Home St. without any lights on.  The vehicle was stopped and the officer could detect an odour of an alcoholic beverage on the 39 year old male driver’s breath.  He was then giving a roadside breath test, which he failed.  The male was then transported to perform a breathalyzer test where he registered sample of more than double the legal limit.  He was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and drive with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

 

Weapons:

On Christmas day at 4:00 p.m. the Brockville Police Service received a 911 call of a male armed with a knife on King St.   The male was located at King St. and Courthouse Ave. and taken into custody at gun point by officers.  The male was charged with having weapons for a dangerous purpose and five counts of breaching a probation order.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Disturb the Peace:

On December 24th, at 7:30 p.m. police were responded to a call for a disturbance at a residence on Stewart Blvd.   Officers located a 40 year old male at that residence that had a warrant for his arrest from the OPP.  The complainant had called to have this male removed from the residence. The male was arrested and turned over to the OPP.

December 23 – 24, 2019 News Release

Theft:

On December 23rd around 8:00 a.m. officers were on routine patrol driving by the Country Club on King St. West when they observed a vehicle parked at the club’s fuel tank.  There were three occupants with the vehicle.  Officers could see that one male was pumping gas from the tank and another had the hose in their vehicle filling the tank.  A 23 year old female, a 33 year old male and a 30 year old male were arrested for theft.  The female had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for failing to attend court.   The parties were charged with theft and released from custody with a future court date.

 

Warrants:

On the 23rd of December 2019 at 4:00 p.m. police were called to a downtown address for a 47 year old female that was no longer welcome there.   The female was arrested by officers as she had a warrant for her arrest from the OPP.  The female was processed by the OPP for her warrant and later released from custody.

 

December 20 – 23, 2019 News Release

Impaired by Drug:

A 71 year old male was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance by drugs as the result of a traffic stop on the 22nd of December around 4:00 p.m.  The Brockville Police had received a complaint of erratic driving.  The vehicle description was provided; officers observed the vehicle shortly after the call and conducted a traffic stop on Stewart Blvd. The driver displayed signs of impairment and later failed tests performed by a drug recognition expert.    He was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

 

Assault: 

A 29 year old male was charged with assault on the 22nd of December after police responded to the complaint at a residence in the center of the city.  Police received a call of a disturbance just before 10:00 p.m. As a result of the investigation the 29 year old male was charged with assault on another adult male.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

 

Public Intoxication:

On the 20th of December at 3:00 p.m. EMS crews had been called to a male passed out on the Brock Trail.  Upon their arrival the male began causing problems with the paramedics which prompted a call for assistance to police.  The 60 year old male was intoxicated by alcohol and was then arrested by police for his own protection.  He was held in custody until sober and charged under the liquor licence act for being intoxicated in a public place.

 

Christmas Spirit:

On the 21st of December a Good Samaritan discovered $1500 at Canadian Tire on Parkedale Ave.  The male then brought the cash to the Brockville Police Service and turned it over.  The owner of the money realized he had lost the cash, attended Canadian Tire to in hopes that it had been turned in.  He was directed to the Brockville Police Service were he was reunited with his Christmas money.

 

Call for assistance:

On the 20th of December a 38 year old female returned to her boyfriend’s residence after a night of festivities.  The female was not able to gain access to the residence and thought he may be sleeping. She then took shelter in her boyfriend’s truck.  After spending some time in the vehicle the female realized how cold she was and attempted to exit her shelter.  She was unable to secure her freedom and called 911 for assistance.  Officers attended and after several seconds of problem solving, it was discovered that pulling the handle to the door will activate the opening sequence. She was freed from her trap and was then sent home in a cab.

December 16 – 17, 2019 News Release

Suspicious Person:

On December 16, 2019 shortly after 5:00 a.m. police received a complaint of a suspicious person in the back yard of a residence in the center of the city. The home owner was awakened by a 36 year old male that was yelling saying he was trapped in a tree as the complainant’s dogs had chased when he was in the back yard.  The male climbed the tree to escape the dogs.   The male was then arrested as he had warrants for his arrest from the Ontario Provincial Police. 

 

Theft/drugs:

On the 16th of December at 12:00 p.m. police were dispatched to the Dollarama on Parkedale Ave. in response to a 31 year old female that was reported to have been shoplifting and fled the location. A description of the suspect was provided to police who located the female a short distance away.  She was arrested for the offence of theft.  A search incident to arrest led to the discovery of methamphetamine.  She was also on a recognizance of bail from previous charges.  She was charged with theft, possession of a controlled substance and failing to comply with her recognizance of bail.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

December 13 – 14, 2019 News Release

Bail Violations:

On the 14th of December 2019 shortly after 1:00 p.m. police were called to Winners on Parkedale Avenue for a person that staff suspected of stealing.  Officers arrived on scene and located a 37 year old female.  The female had a warrant for her arrest from a previous incident.  She was then arrested without incident.  As a result of this call, she was also charged with failing to comply with a recognizance of bail, theft and breach of probation.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Domestic Mischief:

On the 13th of December shortly before midnight, police responded to complaint of a domestic dispute in the city’s north end.  A 24 year old male was arrested and charged with mischief for damaging some property.  He was released with a future court date.

 

Public Intoxication:

On the 14th of December 2019 at 2:00 a.m. police were called to the Brockville General Hospital for an intoxicated male that was refusing to leave the hospital grounds. Officers arrested the 23 year old male for his own safety due to his intoxicated state. He was held in custody until sober and issued a $55 fine.

 

Domestic Assault:

On the 13th of December 2019 close to 11:00 p.m. police were called to an apartment in the city’s south end for a domestic dispute.  As a result of the investigation it was determined that a 26 year old male had assaulted the 23 year old female victim.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

December 11, 2019 – Accidents

Accidents:

25 accidents reported during the snowfall

With a sudden and heavy snow fall yesterday that led to the closure of Highway 401 due to a fatality and multi vehicle collisions; traffic was then diverted through the city causing the city’s streets. The increase in traffic and poor road conditions led to numerous collisions.   As a result of the road conditions several streets had to be temporarily closed until they could be plowed and sanded.  Several vehicles were unable to make the climb up many streets that had hills and had to be towed to level ground. Of the many collisions reported, a fire truck was struck by a vehicle at one of the collision scenes.  Thankfully, there were not any serious injuries reported in the collisions.

December 10 – 11, 2019 News Release

Traffic Stop:

On the 10th of December 2019 at 5:00 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Pearl St.  The two occupants were found to be in breach of court ordered conditions.  A search incident to arrest led to further charges of being in possession of property obtained by crime.  Both males, a 28 year old and 30 year old, were held in custody for a bail hearing later today.

 

Warrants:

On the 10th of December officers on routine patrol at 9:20 p.m. observed a 32 year old male on Daniel St.  The male was known to the officers, who were aware that there was a warrant for his arrest.  The male was arrested without incident and held in custody for a bail hearing.  The male had failed to attend court for a previous theft charge and a warrant was issued.

 

Warrants:

On the 10th of December 2019 at 3:25 p.m. officers on routine patrol arrested a 50 year old male that was wanted a warrant for failing to attend court.  The male was initially charged with failing to comply with his recognizance of bail.  He male was located walking on Perth St. and was arrested without incident.  He was later released with a future court date.

 

Mischief:

A 47 year old male was arrested yesterday at 7:40 p.m. for mischief.  Police were called to a King St. West address as male punching holes in the wall of an apartment building.  The suspect was located and arrested without incident.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

December 6 – 8, 2019 News Release

RE:  Over the weekend the Brockville Police received almost 90 calls for service; the following were as a result of a couple of arrests;

Warrants:

On the 7th of December, 2019 shortly after 4:30 pm the Brockville Police received a call to attend the North end residential area regarding a suspicious female. Police located a 27 year old female who was in breach of her release conditions. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On the 9th of December, 2019 shortly after 2:00 am the Brockville Police received a call regarding a male throwing snow balls at a north end residence. Upon arrival police located a 34 year old male that was wanted for our service for failing to appear for court. He was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

SCAM – Canada Revenue Agency:

The Brockville Police has received numerous complaints regarding people in our community being scammed and victimized by people posing as the Canada Revenue Agency. The following message was taken from the Canada.ca site;

Taxpayers should be vigilant when they receive, either by telephone, mail, text message or email, a fraudulent communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requesting personal information such as a social insurance number, credit card number, bank account number, or passport number.

These scams may insist that this personal information is needed so that the taxpayer can receive a refund or a benefit payment. Cases of fraudulent communication could also involve threatening or coercive language to scare individuals into paying fictitious debt to the CRA. Other communications urge taxpayers to visit a fake CRA website where the taxpayer is then asked to verify their identity by entering personal information. These are scams and taxpayers should never respond to these fraudulent communications or click on any of the links provided.

The Brockville Police Service is Seeking an Experienced Officer

The Brockville Police Service is seeking an experienced officer to join our team starting at a second class constable rank. 

The Brockville Police Service was formed in 1832 and serves a community of approximately 22,000 citizens.  We have 40 dedicated uniform officers who are supported by 17 full-time civilians and 19 part-time staff which include both civilian and sworn. The Brockville Police Service is a progressive; community oriented Police Service, which owes a great deal of its success to the guidance of our Police Services Board, the cooperation of the citizens of our City, the support of City Council and staff as well as the dedication of our officers and civilian employees.

Overview of the Position

Under the direction of the Patrol Sergeant, the Police Constable – Patrol is responsible for:

  • Conducting proactive police initiatives and enhancing the image of the Brockville Police Service.
  • Providing support, assistance and leadership to other members within the Brockville Police and community
  • Liaising with other agencies including Law Enforcement and Non-Law-Enforcement and as required and other duties as may be assigned.
  • Provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws.

Responsibilities – (The following is not an exhaustive list but is a fair representation of expectations)

  • Be knowledgeable of, and enforce, the Criminal Code, relevant Provincial statutes and Municipal by-laws
  • Investigate criminal complaints, apprehend offenders, lay charges, participate in prosecutions, execute warrants
  • Provide leadership and professional support to colleagues and the community
  • Investigate allegations of unlawful activity consistent with the provisions of Adequate and Effective Policing regulation of the Police Services Act and the Core Values of the Brockville Police
  • Notify witnesses and victims of proceedings and prepare them for court
  • Record facts to prepare reports, documenting incidents and daily activities
  • Testify in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases
  • Use good policing techniques to contribute positively to integrated justice system
  • Patrol designated areas responding promptly to calls for assistance
  • Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area
  • Enforce traffic rules and respond to driving complaints issuing citations or warnings to violators; directing traffic and rerouting in case of emergencies
  • Process prisoners, and prepare and maintain records of prisoner bookings and prisoner status during booking and pre-trial process
  • Perform daily administrative activities such as maintaining information files, processing paperwork, documenting activities
  • Interact with the Community to build and strengthen working relationships between police and public
  • Be cognizant of and make suggestions relating to directives and training relative to criminal investigations
  • Prepare crown briefs for court presentation consistent with current legislation and case law
  • Execute R.I.D.E. programs
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate with others
  • Act as official escorts for parades, funeral processions or events
  • Collect, tag and storage of seized and found property
  • Obtain and store supplies
  • Perform such other duties as assigned

  • Minimum 2 years current experience with another police service.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate detail

November 29 – December 1, 2019 News Release

Compliance Check:

On the 29th of November, 2019 at approximately 3pm, Brockville Police conducted a compliance check of a 37 year old female who was on conditional sentence to remain within her residence. She was found to be in breach of that order and was arrested. She will appear for a bail hearing on Monday December 2nd.

 

Warrants:

On the 29th of November, 2019 in the morning hours, 2 individuals were arrested for failing to appear for court on previous dates.  A 28 year old male and a 41 year old female were arrested released with future court dates.

On the 30th of November, 2019 shortly after 8pm information was received to the Brockville Police regarding a wanted person in the centre of town. Police attended and located a 38 year old male who was in breach of his recognizance. He was held for a show cause hearing.

 

Domestic:

On the 1st of December, 2019 shortly after 1am, Brockville Police received a call from a resident in the centre of town reporting that her 38 year old boyfriend had just kicked down her door. He was located and arrested for mischief and released with a future court date.
