Warrant Executed

Early last evening Brockville Police executed a warrant on a 47 year old Brockville man issued in August of this year when he failed to show up for his scheduled probation appointment.

The man was placed on probation on April 7th, 2017 for a series of theft incidents with one condition that he report to his probation officer as directed. From June until August he failed to show for any of his appointments and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Sunday evening he came to the attention of Leeds County OPP who discovered the outstanding warrant and arrangements were made to turn him over to Brockville officers who executed the warrant, processed him and released him with a future court date.

Crime Stopper Online tips

The Brockville Police have received a number of messages of citizens having difficulty with submitting tips to Crime Stoppers online.

Unwanted Person leads to arrest

A mother upset with her son’s friends at her apartment called police yesterday during the lunch hour to have them removed. When police arrived they learned one of the persons in the apartment had an outstanding warrant with the OPP.

Police were called to a Cartier Court apartment building at 12:35 yesterday afternoon as a group of friends had gathered in one of the units. When the mother arrived she requested everyone leave the residence and when they refused she called police.

A 35 year old man from Brockville with an outstanding warrant was arrested on the strength of the warrant and arrangements made with the OPP to turn him over.

Surety Withdraws

A 36 year old Brockville man was arrested yesterday afternoon when his surety contacted police saying she could no longer ensure the man was obeying his court release conditions.

At 1:45 p.m. yesterday officers attended to a King Street West apartment complex where the complainant advised the man was no longer obeying the rules of the residence in accordance with his conditions of release. He had been yelling and screaming at her throughout the previous night. Yesterday the argument continued outside where he ran through traffic causing numerous calls to the communications centre. Eventually the man made his way to the Dollar Bizarre on King Street where he concealed items in his clothes before leaving the store.

Officers located the man on King Street and arrested him for breaching his recognizance and theft. The man had just been released from court on Monday for charges of theft, possession of stolen property and breaching his recognizance.

He is to appear in court today for a bail hearing.

Domestic Disturbance

Investigators are looking to speak with a 40 year old Perth Street man as a result of a domestic disturbance from early last evening.

Officers attended to a Perth Street residence near the railway tracks at 7 p.m. last evening when the victim contacted police saying she and her boyfriend had just been in an altercation and he just left the residence in a vehicle. Investigators attended to the residence and spoke with the woman who suffered minor injuries and learned she and her boyfriend had been arguing when things got physical before he fled.

The 40 year old man has yet to be located and investigators are still wishing to speak with him.

Suspect Identified

Thanks to numerous tips from members of the public, the identity of a suspect in a car theft from October 3rd-4th has been identified.

Yesterday, Brockville Police issued a media release with some surveillance photos of a male suspect who had been using the bank cards of one of the victims who had his jacket and identification stolen from his vehicle. After the release of the photos members of the public contacted the police to identify the man.

The investigation is still ongoing with Constable Serge Landry as the investigating officer.

Fraudulent Caregiver scam

 Brockville Police are investigating the latest fraudulent scam to hit the area, this one an ad placed for a caregiver of an elderly person.

 Yesterday morning at 11:30 a.m. a Salisbury Avenue resident contacted police regarding an ad she had answered for a job. The job posting was for a caregiver of an elderly person in the community. When she answered the ad and was awarded the job she was given a cheque approximately $5000 and asked to deposit in an account that had been set up through the TD Bank for a wheel chair and accessories for the elderly client and to keep $450 for her first week of work.

 When the victim attended to the bank she was advised the cheque was fraudulent. Bank employees also reported to police that at least two other persons had been into the bank with similar cheques and the same story. Investigators are looking to locate and speak with any other victims who may have answered this ad.

Shoplifter Arrested

A 27 year old Brockville man was arrested early last evening when he was observed by staff at Shopper’s Drug Mart in the 1000 Islands Mall concealing items in his clothing and fleeing the store.

Just before 7:00 p.m. officers responded to the Mall to assist staff in apprehending the young man who was now outside the store and running on the mall property. He was located a short distance away and taken into custody and the items recovered.

Further investigation showed the man was on probation at the time of the offence for threatening, mischief under $5000, assault with a weapon and breaching his probation order. As a result he was held for a bail hearing and is facing new charges of theft under $5000 and breaching his probation order.

Break and Enter

Brockville Police are investigating a break and enter which was reported late last evening to a residence on Pearl Street West.

Just after 10:30 p.m. officers were called to the residence on Pearl Street between William and Perth Streets when the homeowner returned home from work and discovered his laptop computer was missing from inside the residence.

Investigators would be interested in speaking with persons who may have been in the area at the time. Impaired Driving

At 4:25 in the morning of the 25th of November 2017 police officers were on patrol in the south end of Brockville and heard a vehicle revving its engine. Officers stopped the motor vehicle and noted an odor of alcohol on his breath. The investigation was furthered and other signs of impairment were noted. He was arrested and breath samples were obtained. He registered twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. The 22 year old man has been released with a future court date.

Break and Enter

At 04:00 hours on the morning of the 25th of November 2017 police officers were patrolling the central part of Brockville and observed a man leap from the second story floor of a business, land on the pavement and began running. The officer engaged in a short foot pursuit and apprehended the 18 year old male. Investigation revealed that he had broke into one section of the business in an attempt to gain entry to another. He caused damage to the building.   He has been released with a future court date to answer to various charges including break and enter.

Arrest in Cartier Court Disturbance Tuesday

A 56 year old Brockville man is in custody this morning after alert Brockville Police officers spotted the man driving his vehicle in the downtown area around 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday evening at 7:15 p.m. officers were called by Leeds and Grenville EMS to the parking lot at 16 Cartier Court where they were attending to a 25 year old female victim who had been injured as a result of a disturbance with the 56 year old man.

Investigators learned the pair had been arguing in an apartment inside the building which continued out into the parking lot before the man sped away in black van.

He is today at Brockville court for a bail hearing and facing assault and driving charges.

RIDE Programs begin this weekend

Brockville Police officers will be starting their RIDE programs for the Christmas Season this coming weekend. Officers will be setting up in various locations throughout Brockville at intermittent times checking for drug and alcohol impaired drivers.

Staff at the Brockville Police Service would like everyone to enjoy the season, but act responsibly. If you are out for the evening, at an office party or celebrating with friends and relatives and have been drinking please arrange for a designated driving or arrange for alternative transportation.

Arrest Warrant Executed

A 56 year old man originally from Brockville but now residing in the Ottawa-Gatineau area was arrested last evening as he was being released from the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre for outstanding warrants in Brockville.

The man was originally charged with several counts of fraud dating back to 2013, failed to appear in Brockville Court on June 26th, 2015 and as a result the arrest warrant was issued. Officers from the Brockville Police Service attended to Ottawa, picked the man up and returned him to Brockville last evening.

He was held in custody and will appear in court today for a bail hearing.

Police busy with Mental Health Calls

Officers with the Brockville Police Service and their community mental health partners were kept busy with three calls for assistance yesterday during the day.

Shortly after 10 am a concerned mother attended to the Brockville Police Service asking for assistance in getting her son help. Police attended to the woman’s residence and were able to assist in apprehending the young man and convey him to hospital for examination where they were relieved by staff.

At 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, an 18 year old man attended to the Brockville Police Service to speak with an officer. While speaking with the young man the investigating officer became concern for his well-being and conveyed him to the emergency department for examination.

Police attended a west end Brockville residence yesterday afternoon just after 4:00 p.m. when a neighbour contacted police concerned for his 43 year old neighbour. He appeared to be very upset and anxious and friends were not able to calm him. He was conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital to be examined by staff.

Street Closures for the Santa Claus parade

Brockville Police would like to advise residents of street closures in effect for the annual Santa Claus parade on Saturday.

• North Augusta Road between Reynolds Drive and Keefer Streets will be closed between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. For North-South traffic and access to the Centennial Youth Arena and Broadway please use Oxford Avenue.
• Pearl Street between North Augusta Road and Park Streets will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
• Park Street between Pearl Street and King Street will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
• King Street between Park Street and Edward Street will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Motorists travelling east or west in the City during these time please use Reynolds Drive.

Parking restrictions will also be in effect along the parade route along Pearl Street between North Augusta and Park Street, Park Street from Pearl to King Street and King Street from Park Street to Edward Street. Police are asking that all vehicles along the parade route be removed by 3 p.m. Saturday for the parade.

Vehicles Entered

Several vehicles in the city’s east were entered overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday with money and valuables taken from inside.

During the day yesterday Brockville Police took 7 reports of vehicles entered in the Glenwood Place, Charlotte Place parking lots, and the Salisbury, Sevenoaks and Sussex Place neighbourhood and articles stolen from those vehicles. Other vehicles in the area had been attempted but were locked and entry was not made.

At 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning a resident in the Salisbury, Sevenoaks, Sussex Place area was awakened and observed his motion light going off in his back yard. He observed a young male described as wearing dark layered clothing as if he would be out for a period of time, a hat with ear flaps and carrying a flashlight.

Charges Laid for Disobeying School Bus Lights

Charges were laid yesterday in relation to a November 10th incident where a school bus driver contacted police to report a vehicle driving through his red flashing lights in the area of Peden Boulevard and Windsor Drive.

The bus driver was able to write down the license plate number of the vehicle and a description of the vehicle and provide this information to the investigating officer. The officer was able to track down the vehicle owner and serve him with a Provincial Offences Notice with a December 20th traffic court date.

Witnesses sought for Cartier Court Disturbance

Investigators are looking to speak with a 56 year old Brockville man in relation to a disturbance last evening in the parking lot at Cartier Court.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. last evening Brockville Police were asked to attend the rear lot of 16 Cartier Court at the request of Leeds and Grenville EMS. Paramedics were attending to a 25 year old Brockville woman who had been injured as a result of a disturbance that had occurred just prior to police and EMS arrival. The 56 year old man who was also involved in the disturbance had left the area in a black van prior to the arrival of emergency services. The woman suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital.

Investigators learned the two had been arguing earlier in the apartment building and the disagreement continued into the parking lot when the man left in his vehicle.

Public’s Assistance sought in Shopper’s Drug Mart theft

Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a theft at Shopper’s Drug Mart late Saturday November 4th.

Shortly before midnight on November 4th the young man is observed entering the store wearing dark clothing and carrying either a duffle bag or large shopping bag with him. He is observed to walk down the Health and Beauty aisle and put several items into the bag and then proceed to the fragrance area and select more items. Once his bag was filled he proceeded to the exit where he set off the store alarm and continued walking out the door. Staff approached him to return but the suspect fled the area.

On the 6th of November 2017 staff at Shopper’s Drug Mart contacted police after reviewing the security footage and learning almost $2000 worth of Health and Beauty products was taken.

The suspect is described as approximately 20-30 years of age with blonde hair wearing a black toque, a grey coat over a brown sweater and blue jeans. He was carrying a grey or blue sports bag or duffle bag.

Police Car strikes Deer

Just before 9 a.m. yesterday morning Constable Dustin Gamble was eastbound on Centennial Road just east of the OSPCA building when a deer jumped out of the ditch in front of his police vehicle. Despite braking he slid on the ice and struck the deer.

The police cruiser suffered minor front end damage to the grill and push bar on the front of the vehicle. Constable Gamble was not injured in the collision, but the deer had to be euthanized.
